(More customer reviews)I was a little tentative about getting this Aluratek 'The Brick' speaker dock/clockradio for ipod/iphone, but after it arrived, all I can say is how satisfied I am with this unit. WOW! I did a lot of research before buying this unit. I couldn't be happier.
These are a few details you might like to know if you're interested in this product.
The sound quality is frankly, EXCELLENT for a smaller speaker dock/clock radio type thing. It is exactly what I was looking for. What I wanted was a clock radio that had better than average sound, WITH a good radio that would play and charge my iPod Touch (newest Gen.). This unit was for my bedroom where I spend quite a bit of time in the evenings, and have been wanting something that not only did all the things I wanted but that sounded good too. And The Brick sounds excellent. Crisp and clear sound, even at lower audio levels. This does it! Sounds great loud too. Amazing.
About the construction. The speakers/dock/radio/player is heavy, constructed well, feels substantial. They probably named it 'The Brick' because it's like a brick in size, and probably weighs about the same too. There are just four buttons on the front panel, for power/standby, source, and volume up and one for volume down. This unit is meant to be controlled by the remote (so don't loose it). The remote works fine, no problems - but the remote is different from what is pictured on the box. Just a few differences. There is also 'The Brick' in somewhat large lettering on top of the unit (which also is not pictured) but doesn't bother but does seem a bit unnecessary. The FM radio works wonderfully well. I am so happy with this - I listen to the radio often and if the reception was dismal or subpar I would have returned it. An external antenna is included.
The radio feature is what really made me look at this unit, because there are so many speaker docks out there for ipods but not as many with a good radio. You can set 20 presets for the radio and cycle through them easily on the remote. There is base and treble adjustment (for radio and ipod). If you plan to listen to the radio then take the ipod off the unit as you'll get better reception and no interference. There is no AM radio, just FM.
The remote works with the ipod very well.
The screen on the face of the unit displays the time and is ONLY lit up with that blue light for a little while. It does NOT stay on (and you cannot keep it lit up even if you wanted to). I personally like this. So lets say I adjust the volume with the remote and that action then lights up the blue LED, so I can then read the clock and the light will stay on for a few minutes then will automatically turn off. It would bother me if that light was on all the time and I couldn't shut it off, but it does it automatically. But you can't turn it on and keep it on (as far as I could find). There is a very simple and easy to use 'sleep' feature/button on the remote that toggles through 15,30,45,60 minutes and then off. I have not used this unit as an alarm clock but it has that feature as well.
My happiness with this product is mainly with hitting all the features I wanted and then having EXCELLENT sound. The Aluratek 'The Brick' has a built-in amplifier, good FM radio reception, excellent sound and easy to use remote. It is in a word, perfect.
