Philips/Nike PSA110 Armband FM Radio Review

Philips/Nike PSA110 Armband FM Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a user of the Nike PSA radio before this model, which was great for running, but the reception was always very poor, so when they came out with the PSA 110, I gave it another try, and my second one just died after about three weeks of use (maybe 10 hours total).
While I believe it should be at least sweat resistant, it seems that the battery cover does not make a proper seal, and after about 30 minutes of running, even on a new battery, the LCD display fogs up, then the device goes erratic, and eventually dies completely. It's happened on two of them in the past three months, and I've decided to try something else.
It's a great design, fits perfectly on the arm, but if you want to listen to the radio, that's another story entirely.

Sony SRF-M97 Radio Walkman Review

Sony SRF-M97 Radio Walkman
Average Reviews:

This is a very good radio and better than my old Radio Shack brand that finally gave out.My old one mind you could only pick up a few stations clearly. Now with this new one I'm getting over 15 FM stations clearly some in Philly and some in New Jersey.I assume since I'm only 35 miles from Philly that would explain why I'm getting the outstanding reception. The AM is great as well as it comes in very clear. There are also a few features that come in handy. One is that you can set the radio to turn off automatically after a set time. Also has bass boost and a digital clock.I leave it on the DX mode because if it's on the local setting the stations will sometimes have static. Also you will be surprised at how tiny and compact it is making it easy to carry around. It's also very convenient to jog through the preset stations while on the go and it also has a lock mode for when you what just one station set.Now the important news. The provided headphones are useless. This is probably why other reviewers could not get good reception.Frankly,I got no reception at all when I pluged them in because the FM antenna is in the headphone wire. Not only that but the ear buds don't even fit in your ears. What I got instead are the Sennheisers PX-100 portable headphones and now I'm getting outstanding reception from them as well as great sound quality. So if you order the sony radio make sure you get some portable headphones too.

Sony SRF-M85V S2 Sports Walkman Armband Radio Review

Sony SRF-M85V S2 Sports Walkman Armband Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have recently used the Sony SRF-M85V S2 arm band radio...as soon as I got home from my walk, I found all the packaging it came in, packed it all back up and sent it back. The reception is HORRIBLE, it is even worse than horrible. I live in an area where reception is never a problem, but when on my walk, I was lucky if I had a total of 60 seconds of clear reception. There is a button for local versus further away stations, that made no difference in the reception. Maybe if you were standing in the lobby of the radio station would you be able to actually tune it in. I have had much cheaper radios that worked far better than this one. The only good thing I can say about this product is that I really l liked the armband.

Coby CX-96 All Weather Sport PLL AM/FM Radio with Arm Band Review

Coby CX-96 All Weather Sport PLL AM/FM Radio with Arm Band
Average Reviews:

Many people have said the arm band is sewn wrong. IT iS NOT. (e.g. "The arm band was a puzzle, all the velcro patches were on the same side which would not allow wrap around strapping so I had to glue a patch on the opposite side at the appropriate location and it works like it should.").
I thought so too, at first. Then I figured out how it works and it is really easy to use and comfortable.
If you put the radio down on its face you are looking at the velcro band as it crosses behind the radio. Your instinct is to stick this on your arm and try to wrap the strap completely around your arm. If you do this, the velcro will not stick and you will think the product is broken.
Instead, grab the velcro band in the center and LIFT it up so it forms a loop. You can now see the back of the radio (in fact part of the radio forms about 1/3 of the circumference of the loop). Insert your arm into the loop. Now grab the end of the strap on one end, turn it back around on itself and stick it to the strap. Repeat for the other side.
The trick is to recognize that your arm touches the back of the radio. The velcro does NOT wrap 360-degrees around your arm.

Sony Portable Sports AM/FM Radio (SRF-M78) Review

Sony Portable Sports AM/FM Radio (SRF-M78)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
All in all, I prefer the Koss, but these are two great radios for runners and other active people. Below is a comparison by category.
Reception:
Edge to Sony due to Distance/Local switch. The Koss does fine in the city, but suffers when signals are weak or adjacent to dominant signals. The Sony can switch to Distance mode. Neither does well in extreme interiors. By the way, on my Sony, I have to tune one frequency up on FM, e.g. tune to 94.2 to receive 94.1. Once you get used to that, it is OK and may be unique to my unit.
Wearability:
Tough call. Edge probably to Sony. The Koss is lighter and more comfortable, but its armband has problems. If your arm is very small, the Velcro patches may not overlap; if very large, they may not meet. The Sony is much easier to put on one-handed, as one half of the band is permanently coiled and can be placed around your arm before stretching the Velcro band.
Button Layout:
Toss-up. The station presets are laid out in a circle. With the Koss, it is possible to confuse the buttons while on the move. If you pay attention, though, a couple of trips and you will learn what is what. The on/off switch of the Koss is much better than the soft button on the Sony. With the Sony, you need to always "lock" the unit when not in use to avoid accidental activation and dead batteries. The Koss also has a lock feature, but that is just to avoid accidentally changing stations.
Funtionality:
You have to give a big edge here to Koss, which has a SEARCH feature. If the Sony has one, I can't find it. When in my home city, it doesn't matter, but when I travel my presets are useless. Without a search I have to run along pushing the tuning button once for every tenth of a frequency! This problem is what led me to the Koss. Otherwise, they both have about the same functions.
Headphones:
You can, of course, replace either of them, but the Koss headphones are surprisingly comfortable (The Sony headphones are the jam-in-your-ear-till-they-are-rubbed-raw type and are unacceptable). The Koss headphones are independent pieces that fit around the ear like a hearing aid, and lay the actual speaker gently against the ear canal. They are incredible light. I still prefer the around-the-back-of-the-head type only because the two independent pieces inevitably get tangled up while stored. Then again, if you run in the cold and wear an ear band, you can easily wear it over the Koss headphones, something you cannot do with many styles of headphones. If you don't want to spend extra on headphones, the Koss is the better choice.

The digital synthesized tuning of this personal stereo precisely locks in the most powerful signal for remarkably accurate reception. Ten random station presets allow you to instantly switch between memorized stations at the push of a button instead of searching with a tuning dial. A unique wrap-around arm band attaches easily and comfortably without the need for a pocket or belt.
This portable player is ideal for outdoor lifestyles. It resists splashes, snow, and sprinkles for all-season use as the sturdy water-resistant case, rubber gaskets, bushings, and waterproof seals help keep out water, moisture, and dirt. A stopwatch function adds versatility by precisely timing events, while the built-in digital clock provides accurate timekeeping.
