I was able to use the existing wiring and with the proper Nutone rough-in kits and update frames, installation was very easy. I purchased it through Quality Home Systems and although the price was good and the product was as advertised, I would not do business with them again. There was absolutley no communications from them and they charged the order to my account but did not ship it for seven days. I knew it was shipped when I got an email from FedEx ground.

(More customer reviews)I have 7 speakers from an older Nutone system in my office. One of the speakers went bad and this replacement fit fine. I did need to cut a little sheet rock and matching up the wires took a little bit of time. Install time to pull out old and install new about 30 min.

(More customer reviews)We have one of these units in our house. We have numerous complaints.
First is the durability. The unit has been sent out for repairs once, but still doesn't work very well. The intercoms sometimes work in the house. The door intercom seldom works. None of them work when you want them to. The door chime worked until about 4 months ago. The radio stopped working about 5 months ago. Now the unit is clicking constantly as it turns on and off the intercom feature. Sometimes, it just turns on the outdoor intercom (a surprise because pressing the door talk button does nothing) and we can hear traffic in the street. We are not sure what to do with this unit. If it wasn't built into our house, it would be in the trash can. This unit is REALLY expensive to buy up front and REALLY expensive to fix.
Second is the features. This unit is an intercom first and a sound system second. We have a stereo from 1990 with more features than this sound system. To connect our IPod to the unit, we could have purchased the $200 iPod dock, or we ran a cable through the wall to the Aux connection. Pretty low tech. The radio and the CD are very ho humm. There is an alarm, but it doesn't let you choose any wake up sound except the radio. I think that technology was solved in the 1980s. If you're looking for an in house sound system, I recommend looking else where.
We are trying to figure out what to do with this unit. If we can find a replacement from a different manufacturer, we may go that route. Or, we may pull it out of the wall and give up on an intercom in the house.

(More customer reviews)I just purchased this unit and once I finally got it working I could not be more pleased. Just be warned that it was not as easy in my two story home to just plug one in upstairs and come downstairs with the other and have it work right away. Maybe I just have some "funky" wiring in this house, BUT I had to make about 6 trips up and down those stairs with a friend standing by the unit I wanted in the master bedroom while I tried various plugs upstairs until we finally got the things to work. All the electrical receptacles work fine, so I don't know why it did not work on the first try. Once working they are great...just keep in mind flexibility of placement in the event you have an experience similar to mine. I'm going to order another set to use between the den and my husband's workshop and feel they are a great deal for the cost and so much easier than a "hard wired" system.

Westinghouse WHDBI-5C Whole-House Wireless Doorbell and Intercom Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this wireless doorbell & intercom with expectations that it would replace the existing hard wired intercom/doorbell system that I have attached to my security system.
This item is nothing more than a glorified walkie talkie -- it even squelches like a walkie talkie. When you push on the doorbell, the microphone is activated and the chime noise originates from the doorbell module. The receiving intercom module receives the "Ding Dong" sound. How cheap!
Almost laffable is the fact that you can't put the doorbell outside where it might get wet. According to the instructions, the doorbell module should be kept in a place where there is not excessive sunlight or moisture. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I called Westinghouse to confirm that it wasn't a typo -- to which I received a recommendation to buy a clear plastic box to keep it in outside OR -- get this.... put it in a bird house with the button where the bird would enter! HAHAHA. I swear..that's what the operator said.
Save yourself the $$$...

(More customer reviews)As many other reviewers have mentioned, these are not the MOST clear when it comes to intercoms, but they work for us. I was just sick of either 'nicely' yelling a response or walking back and forth down halls or stairs to answer my wife. She is happy with the purchase. We have FOUR of these in our house and it makes it MUCH easier to locate someone or get a quick answer. It took me a few times to understand how to add another intercom to the 'system', but just a little bit of trial and error, like most electronic gadgetry. The price is pretty good for an entry intercom system and I like the fact that I didn't have to run any wires. Also, Ebay had the AC adapters for these SUPER cheap, so we plug 'em right to the wall and have two that are using the voice-activated response. You basically have to make a sound or say a random word to have it start up (because the person on the other end usually won't get that first word anyhow), but then it works fine. We have become use to the process and are happy we have them now.
I'd recommend these to anyone who is okay with having a wireless setup that are being used in a two-story house.
