Rode PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Review

Recently a friend and I have been building a game from scratch. While we're in the later stages of this production, We've come to the point where we're in need of voice recording. While trying very hard to avoid building a full blown studio, it became painfully clear that our Dinky little headphone/microphone combo sets where just not going to cut it (which is an issue I brought up many times before with my partner) for our voice recording needs. W cant afford hours and hours of actual studio time getting all our friends and family into a recording booth, and well frankly, I have always wanted to build my self a small scale home recording studio for a good long time now.
So from my own pocket I've undertook the task of putting together at the very least a small pod-casting sort of home studio.
I wanted to avoid as much carpentry as possible (Something I couldn't avoid to build and isolation enclosure for my Loud Desktop PC to reduce sound from it while still keeping it cool and from over heating.) Another thing I wanted was the ability to have my microphone right where and when I needed it.
Here is where the PSA1 comes in. It's stable, Easy to use, Very professional, and above all looks awesome. I mounted the PSA1 to one side of my desk with the included hardware at the back end. Installation couldn't be much easier then a few screws and a little minimal effort. Once mounted, It was there to stay.
When not in use, I have it out of the way so that I can do what I need at my computer. when One of my voice actors come over, or I'm feeling in the mood to add more lines to our game, it's swings over and in place really easy. Once there it just wont move.
I have a MXL Studio 1 in my shock mount and a pop shield to boot. It is all doing exactly what I need it to do, and with my little AdHoc Home Studio, I'm getting just the quality I need for our project.
I am going to have to say, I am 100% satisfied with my investment, and plan on using it further after this project is finished.

Audio Production Worktext, Sixth Edition: Concepts, Techniques, and Equipment Review

Audio Production Worktext, Sixth Edition: Concepts, Techniques, and Equipment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Selecting a text for an undergraduate audio production class is a dicey proposition. There are a limited number in print, and some are commercial-focused, while other skew towards documentary, video, or music. Technical scope is another issue. Some read like pure technology primers while others simply skip over the physics smarts one needs to understand why audio tools work the way they do. And currency is always an issue, so regular updates are a must.
Whether someone creates content for broadcast, web, or power point presentations, good AV skills are an essential communication competency. This book works well in providing an up-to-date generalist's guide
to producing decent quality audio. It also includes key topics like copyright and ethics, which are useful in making the point to novices that just because you CAN do something doesn't mean its OK to do so.
The self tests and step-by-step exercises are useful in reinforcing concepts by matching them with ears-on learning. An enclosed CD lets anyone with a pc and speakers begin to make the kinds of intellectual and auditory correlations needed to make a lasting impression.
As someone who teaches audio at the undergraduate level, I've used several texts over the last 4 years, and am pleased (and relieved) to say that the 6th edition of APW is the book I'll be moving on to in the coming academic year.

Heil Sound PL-2T Silent Professional Microphone Boom Review

Heil Sound PL-2T Silent Professional Microphone Boom
Average Reviews:

An item such as this seems as if it would be a luxury purchase for a non-professional, but I've found it to be a necessity in preparing my podcasts. My desk quickly gets filled with all the items and equipment for the cast -- mixer, interface, computer, notes, etc. -- and the PL2T relieves you of the worry of where to fit in a mic stand. Its precise placement and steadiness allows you to adjust the mic exactly as you need.j Then, when you don't need it, it simply swings to one side and keeps the mic out of the way for the next time.
So far I've used two different mics with it, both with fine results. The first mic required the use of the counterweight, which attached easily.
I'm giving this review less than 5 stars only because the plastic covers that fit over the cord channels tend to pop off, but that's no major concern.

The Heil Sound PL2T 'Topless' mount is a unique and versatile boom that utilizes a system of perfectly balanced internal springs to provide perfect balance and silent, effortless adjustment of its position. The PL2T easily handles microphones weighing up to 3.5 lb. (1.6 kg), and it makes for a professional-looking installation without adding to the clutter in front of you. The Heil PL-2T features a hollow channel that the microphone cable can be fed through and provides the perfect cable maintenance. The unique 'Topless' design of the PL2T allows you to remove the top and back cover plates, so you can thread the microphone cable along the spine of the mount. Once the cable is in place, you snap the cover plates back in place, for a clean installation with no visible wiring. For mounting of your Heil Microphone, the PL2T accepts all of the Heil (industry standard) 5/8 inch - 27 threaded mic clips or shock mounts. The chrome threaded stem can be locked into the optimum mounting position, depending upon the exact type of microphone and/or shock mount.

Get Media Airplay - A Guide to Getting Song Exposure, Music/Product Tie-Ins & Radio-Play Spins Review

Get Media Airplay - A Guide to Getting Song Exposure, Music/Product Tie-Ins and Radio-Play Spins

I am completely fed up with this book. And yet I cannot stop reading.
Irrelevant half-page celebrity pictures are everywhere. The smallest hint of organization is nowhere.
Why even bother to have chapters if you are going to bleed your pages and paragraphs from Pepsi corporate endorsement advice right into [what the book actually DOES trumpet itself as] radio spin advice (if masked behind the most choppy interview scheme imaginable) to movie placement tips back to radio demo submission information and then another curve-ball smack with a pointless picture of the Dillinger Escape Plan (?) It's as offensively paced as this little paragraph right here!
I agree with the previous review: There's very important material in here... SOMEWHERE!!! Just when the author has gone completely off the deep end with ego-tripping himself in his "triumphantly achieved" flash-in-the-pan interviews with "important people," he has a moment of genius with the hot tip for newer artists of how if they sound like the Smashing Pumpkins, they may actually have a marketing advantage over the original band! I laughed out loud at such random, on-and-off spurts of value to the reader.
But, the biggest dose of benefit/frustration comes with the generous supply of contact information we are given. I am sitting here completely lost as to how to go about using any of it! Some of the best seeming contacts are noted "stream of consciousness" - style, throughout the book, while at other times, random charts (with beaucoup de helpful names) are sitting on the page. Rick went through all the trouble of compiling an exhaustive list of contacts, and then they are listed haphazardly throughout his book! It's like he closed his eyes and threw a bucket of names against the wall, and where they landed, that's where they ended up in the book! So now I need to go back to the beginning, methodically create my own chart of every name in there, and organize my own spreadsheet; I know the book isn't supposed to do your work for you, but if he at least went through the trouble in the first place (to put it all in the book), how hard would it have been to organize it all? HUMPH!
Will the real Rick please stand up! Genius or Putz?! Hopefully the former!
I mean no disrespect to the author: I am unable to ascertain whether he suffers from ADD (in which case he should have had someone else assemble the book for him), or perhaps he was just completely rushed and the thing was most hastily put together.
Either way, YES I recommend you buy the book, because you DO learn things from Rick that you won't get elsewhere; but brace yourself for frustration.
DR
