Panasonic KX-TS105W Corded Speakerphone (White) Review

Panasonic KX-TS105W Corded Speakerphone (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this as an auxillary phone. We've got an answering machine and a fax machine, but I needed an additional phone to be by the computer in my downstairs office and I wanted a speakerphone so when I was telecommuting I could call into meetings and listen to them without holding a receiver up to my ear.
I was convinced to buy this phone by the string (until recently aftet I placed my order) of rave reviews for this phone, combined with the terrible reviews for so many other speakerphones that cost less.
I've only had this phone for a few days, but I can say that it is attractive and seems to be built well. I called in to work and tried out the speakerphone and it seemed to work well on both ends. I heard the other party fine and the other party did said I sounded good.
I like the uncluttered controls with big number buttons and big buttons for volume and speakerphone. I didn't have to pay for a lot of features that I don't need.
This phone also has the added bonus of a headset input, so if I ever need to talk a whole lot from my home office, I could get a headset and talk while keeping both hands free. So far, so good.
Postscript: It's September of 2007 and the speaker volume is now impossible to control and the unit seems to be buzzing. I can't use it for conference calls anymore. I guess I'll buy another one, but I'll look around first.
OOPS! I forgot that this phone is powered by three AA batteries. They need to be replaced on occasion. When they start running down, the speakerphone gets squirrely. So, I replaced them and now the phone works fine.

The Panasonic KX-TS105W corded phone combines flexible features, sturdy construction, and a value price. A 10-number speed dial allows you to program the most frequently used numbers into the phone and dial them with the touch of a button. The speakerphone allows you to talk without having to touch the handset; a headset jack offers an additional hands-free conversation option. A data port is integrated into the base, and dial lock and call restrictions are easily programmable, making this an excellent phone for family or home-office use.
Handset and speakerphone controls allow you to adjust volume levels to your liking (the speakerphone has eight levels; the handset/headset has four), while a ringer control lets you set the ringer to off, low, or high. A flash button provides access to call waiting, and the redial feature allows you to quickly call the last outgoing number. Tone and pulse dialing modes are included. Wall-mountable, the Panasonic KX-TS105W supplies a wall mount bracket in the box, and comes backed by a one-year warranty on both parts and labor.

Bose? Wave? FM Antenna Review

Bose? Wave? FM Antenna
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This antenna works fine - I did not get much of a radio signal in my apartment before adding the antenna, but I wish I had just picked one up at a Radio Shack or Best Buy or something. There's nothing special about this product, and you can get one much cheaper at any electronics store. The bose antenna is also really long and can be unsightly - for the same price you can get something more compact.

Sony 2 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Black) Review

Sony 2 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used just about every MP3 player there is and this one is right there with the best of them. It's small light and extremely easy to use. You don't need ANY software to upload songs to it. The device shows up like a drive on your PC. You have the option of using Windows Media Player 11 to upload songs, but I'd rather just drag and drop songs or use my Napster subscription to upload songs from Napster's huge library. I thought 2GB wouldn't be enough but it is so easy to upload songs when my mood changes that it's never been an issue for me. If you like to watch movies then you may want to go with the larger 4GB (NWZS616) or 8GB (NWZS618) versions of this model since a typical movie takes up ~700K memory after you compress it to QVGA. If you want a larger screen size then you can get the NWZA815. That model is basically the same player with a larger screen. It also has a heavier metal shell, but it does not have an FM tuner like the NWZS615, and I wanted the FM tuner. I typically use my player in shuffle mode in my car and if I don't want to hear a song, it is a breeze to reach down and click just to the right of the center button to skip to the next song. I honestly can't see how anyone would be disappointed with this player especially when you consider the great price.

This FM antenna did not work in my situation. Probably too much electrical wiring in the placement area. Cheap dipole single wire antenna works at least as good. Seller did accept return and refunded in full.

Apple iPod nano 8 GB Pink (6th Generation) NEWEST MODEL Review

Apple iPod nano 8 GB Pink (6th Generation) NEWEST MODEL
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The iPod Nano update on September 1, 2010 is arguably the most dramatic since the iPod Nano moniker was introduced by Apple five years ago.
Several colors are being offered in both 8 GB & 16 GB capacities.
More than an update, this is a new product that simply retains the iPod Nano name. It gains a significant feature, but loses several others.
The big deal is the touch interface on the newest iPod Nano. iPod Nano users will now be "touching," their music as iPod Touch and iPhone users have before them. The click wheel is gone. To find your music, you select a category from the Nano's menu such as "Playlists," or "Artists," and select from there. Less convenient or more convenient than a click wheel? Honestly, about equal. The screen is indeed small, but not unusable.
FM Radio has been retained as well as the Fitness aspects with the ability to use Nike + or simply the built in pedometer. However, the form factor will be a major benefit for those working out with the Nano. The previous Nano required an armband to keep it on you while working out, jogging, or the like. Not always comfortable, an additional expense, etc. However, with this new small, square form factor that need is gone. Now, we can simply "clip," the Nano onto us, with the built in clip, and run to our listening content. A bigger deal than you might think.
The downside? Features have been removed from Nano. The screen is much smaller than the previous generation. Therefore, playback of video content from iTunes is gone. Nano no longer plays video, which was a feature added three years ago. Secondly, last year, Nano added a small video camera to record low quality video, which could be played back on the Nano's screen or synced with iTunes and viewed on your computer. That feature is gone too. The device is too small now for a camera or to watch video. This new generation iPod Nano has many exciting new features, but buyers must be aware that it is no longer a video player. It is something new. Those wishing to play video on an iPod must choose an iPod Touch.
My opinion on this change? Honestly, did I ever watch video on the iPod Nano's screen? No. For me, while they kept trying to make the screen larger, it was simply too small to enjoy more than a once a year video. Likewise, the camera was simply not high enough quality to keep yourself entertained by using on a regular basis. It became a feature unused by many.
The iPod Nano has changed and gone back to being an exceptional music player. There is nothing here you do not need to enjoy music. However, the display and touch interface brings the 21st century "touch," that Apple has made so popular to a more affordable device. The touch function will be limited here to simply selecting songs or bringing up the clock, but nevertheless, touch has made its way to the Nano.
I'm most thankful that the Nano has indeed retained the DOCK CONNECTOR. The dock connector is key to use with iPod accessories such as docks, speaker docks, and built in car iPod connectors. The nano is so diminutive that if you plug it into the factory iPod kit of an automobile, the cable's dock connector will look nearly bigger than the Nano itself. Not a negative, just amusing. Nevertheless, the dock connector is there, and you will be able to use the device in such applications, and that was a significant decision by Apple. Users want and need the dock connector. It is there on this iPod Nano, but still missing from the Shuffle due to its even more diminutive size.
This 16 GB version is the largest size Apple offers in the Nano. It offers no additional functionality over the 8GB, but features twice the storage. Choose the one best for you. 16 GB is great if you have a large music collection. We should all remember though that with Nano no longer doing Video or Storing Pictures, the storage is exclusively for music. This makes 8 GB and 16 GB more appropriate size offerings as music takes up much less storage than video.
Overall, Apple has removed video (both playback and recording) from this iPod Nano. However, it's an equalling good music player. Navigation of music is now completed via touch, which works effectively despite the small screen. It's really hard to believe so much can fit into such a small device and I believe everyone will be a bit shocked when they open up the Nano the first time and see it's size yet primary function as an effective music player retained. The newest Nano brings a nearly Shuffle like size, but yet retains the functionality (touch, clip, dock connector) that serious music lovers and those who use the Nano while working out, demand.

Sanyo R227 WiFi Internet Radio (Black) Review

Sanyo R227 WiFi Internet Radio (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got my Sanyo R227 Internet radio from Amazon within 4 business days and was ready to rock 'n' roll. Easy set up and no problems finding stations to listen to. The sound is super for a clock radio, although I would have liked to see a tone control since the radio is a bit heavy on the bass. Build quality is impressive too. Compact and heavy; not at all cheap looking.
The bad news is that my radio always lost the WiFi signal within 3 minutes of connecting, thus requiring a reboot every time. I called Sanyo service and was met by the most droll, uninterested, tech support man on the face of the earth. He volunteered no helpful info and answered every question that I asked in the most bored, brief, demeanor imaginable. SANYO, find this unhelpful guy and DUMP him! Concluding on my own that my radio was faulty, I decided to exchange the radio at Amazon and I'm now awaiting the new radio. Never one to put all my eggs in one basket, though, I also order an Aluratek radio. I'll keep whichever radio works best!
Got the replacement radio today (10/6) and everything works great. I'm very impressed with the R227 so far. I'll be returning the Aluratek to Staples tonight. It's much smaller than the R227 and doesn't have the quality feel, or appearance of the R227. It couldn't beat this Sanyo R227 as a bedside radio since it has only one speaker. The Aluratek unit also has a cheap plastic smell. The Sanyo has no odors to overcome.
Buyers of this great Sanyo radio need to be aware that the 8 presets are, thankfully, not the only way to save your favorite stations. To get many more favorites, you'll merely log on to the Reciva site, enter your radio registration number, and their massive list of Internet stations is quickly at your fingertips. At the Reciva web site you'll select your favorite stations and, then, when you turn on your radio you find them all listed under MY STUFF on your radio's menu. In other words, you can have dozens (hundreds?) of favorites. You may have to reboot your radio to see them. At the moment I have two dozen favorites.
My only complaint as of today (10/7) is the searchlight-bright display in the dark bedroom. I'll need to find some clingy tint film and put it over the screen. You can adjust the radio backlighting, but it doesn't help. I'll post more when I find a solution to the light problem.
(10/8 Update) - I went to a window tint store and got some free samples of their various tint films. Then I cut out a display screen-sized piece of the tint film and laid it on the display window. No need for any glue; the film clings nicely to the display window. You'll have to experiment with various degrees of tint to find your preferred one.
Oh, I do have one other problem. I want to carry this radio everywhere I go!!!!!!!! (and I have XM in the car)
