(More customer reviews)The NX501 has been installed now for three weeks. I'm using the GPS, HDTuner and External Mic. I also installed the Steering Wheel Controls and a SW Relay.
Installation took about 3 hours in my 2008 Tacoma. Configuration of the settings was very straight forward. I'm streaming Pandora from my BlackBerry and also have a USB drive in the glove box loaded with 4 GB of audio.
Bluetooth for both audio and phone are very clear and syncing is very simple. It was worth every penny even though I only budgeted $400 originally for the head unit.
Audio is clear, it switches between functions seamlessly and the touch screen is very functional. There are two issues that I'm working on: 1) Nav audio seems muted even though the audio setting is turned up all the way and 2) The head unit dimmer doesn't seem to integrate with my truck even though there is a wire for dimming...

I oringinally bought a Soundstorm playerSoundstorm SD960TS 7-Inch In-Dash DVD/MP3/DC Receiver with Motorized Flip-Out Touchscreen Monitor and it broke on me in 3 days. I RMA'd it and couldn't wait so I started looking for a replacement. I found this one and oh how happy am I that I was impatient. The picture quality was 100% better. Better resolution on the same size screen. The front removable face in VERY nice for security. It does everything that the Soundstorm didn't for me. And if I wanted to buy extra items, this player can have naigation easily added to it and a TV tuner. And for a $200 player you will be surprised. The Soundstorm seemed like a $200 player and the Power Acoustic feels like a $500 player, You will be happy with this one. 5 star A+ model!

(More customer reviews)First, let me clear up possible confusion (at least I was initially confused upon reading it) b/c "Devin's" review about this being for the shower is clearly for another item and not intended for this mirrorless indoor/outdoor speaker. I bought this reviewless item anyway and thought I'd put my two cents in: I am using it with an iPhone. The sound on the speaker is not the greatest, so don't plan on blasting any music poolside; however, the sound is pretty good at your basic to "semi-loud" listening level. it is simple to set up and easy to transport. The wireless transmits from the kitchen into our basement and well into our back yard. Not sure how long batteries would last since I have not used it via battery, but the power cord is pretty short so I expect to need to use batteries eventually. Overall, it's a good speaker for the price.

(More customer reviews)I had my eye on a Sony Boombox with I-Pod dock for some time. I went into Bestbuy to check them out and I found this little gem for $60. I have Insignia cpu speakers and they sound great, but I didn't know they were in the boombox biz. There were 2 different Sony models next to it on the display shelf, one was $80 and the other was $120. This Insignia's sound blew both Sony's away! I couldn't believe it. Both Sony's sounded like my clock radio was going off, terrible, hollow sound. The Insignia has 5 different equalizer modes: Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical & Flat. The I-pod dock plays my 5th Gen. Nano just fine. It has a CD player and 10 FM/ 10 AM presets. For those of you that have Sony Boomboxes, you need to check out the sound on this Insignia. You won't believe your ears. It also comes with a remote control.

(More customer reviews)On my quest to find a FM Transmitter, I bought a different itrip from Griffin, but it did not charge my ipod nano 4th Gen. So I called Grifin and they told me that in order to charge my ipod nano 4th Gen that it needs to be an itrip with Smart Scan technology. So i returned it and bought this one, and i'm very happy with it.
1. This unit charges our ipod nano 4th Gen no problem. The ring of light on the cigarette lighter plug lights up red when initially connected denoting power to FM transmitter, then amber once the ipod is connected (charging), and then it turns green when the ipod is fully charged.
2. I have a sealed radio in my car so therefore don't have an audio input unfortunatley (2005 Volvo s40 2.4i) and so FM Transmitters are a way of life for me. Your not going to get the perfect sound quality from these like you would with a direct input, so check to see if you got an aux input in your car first and then just buy a charger and a double male head phone wire. I have a Sirius Radio has an FM Transmitter so i'm use to dealing with changing frequencys every so often. I live in NJ and am in NYC and Long Island a lot. My car can tune to 87.9 which I use for the sirius radio almost everywhere, but sometimes while in NY I use 93.3 (pretty high on the frequency list, but for some reason it's clear).
3. Check to make sure your car can go into 87.9 range first, these channels are hardly ever used by radio stations, then switch this grifin itrip autoscan to international frequencies just press function, then press AND HOLD mode for roughly ten secons until a new menu appears. It'll give you US, EU, and JP choices above each of the three buttons on the itrip. I picked JP (for japan) which enables all the normal US frequencies plus the lower range, lower then my car can go, my car only goes to 87.3 or something. A funny thing is that when i tune my car and itrip to 87.9 i get static, but if i keep the itrip at 87.9 and tune my car to 87.8 it comes in perfectly clear. It doesn't do that in my wife's car, 87.9 is 87.9. Just set one of your car radio presets to that and your good to go!
4. I took someone else recomendation to adjust the ipods equalizer to "Acoustic" and that definetly sounds better.
5. Long story short, I like this product, I got it for a heck of a lot cheaper then any FM transmitter at the apple store. One downfall which people do mention is that it is a tad bit hard to read the display of the itrip when you got a glare, but you can set your own presets on the itrip. Autoscan function is stupid, but apparently this is the model that'll charge the ipod nano 4th gen. Scan the radio yourself for static/ or free channels and then tune the itrip to those.

(More customer reviews)Though this unit works well, it has a very bad design flaw that any buyer considering it should be aware of. When using it as a portable getting power from its internal AA batteries, even when you shut the unit OFF with its ON/OFF switch, the four batteries will self discharge to dead in about a week because the unit still draws current from the batteries even when shut OFF.
I considered my unit to be defective because of this problem but when I contacted Philips support to request a exchange unit under warranty, I was informed that this battery drain was normal and that I needed to remove one or more of the batteries when not using the unit to prevent the batteries from going dead. Dumb, dumb, triple dumb design flaw in my opinion!
Why even have an ON/OFF switch if you must remove a battery to really shut it OFF!

The rapid seek function only finds stations that are already broadcasting loud and clear music.
Even when you can find a station manually that you can hear the ipod through (a very rare event), it is so quiet that you have to crank up the volume, making the static significantly louder than the music. It sounds terrible.
I don't see how anyone could give this 5 stars unless they are receiving a completely different product. The performance is so dismal that simple difference-of-opinion cannot explain it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my wife and haven't played with it too much but will pass on her comments. The unit is small and easy to use. Overall pleased with only two comments.
The volume is incremental and only adjusts from the unit itself and ignores any changes made on the iPod. The problem with this is that if you want to fall asleep to some 'gentle and soothing' sounds/music the difference between no sound and the first step is too pronounced.
The only other item to note is that the dimmer also has steps and if you like your room very dark at night the lowest setting visible is just a bit too bright. However, you can completely turn the light off which is nice and all you have to do is hit a button to turn it on -- then step thru all the settings to turn it off...but that's not too bad.

(More customer reviews)This ipod speaker system could have been great, except for its one big flaw. That one flaw being the alarm on this clock goes from what ever volume setting you have it at to max volume in about 4 seconds. The max volume is VERY loud. It more or less renders the alarm function useless in my opinion. 1 way around this problem is to use the alarm setting on the ipod itself and make sure you have the ilive set to the ipod setting before going to sleep. This way, the ipod alarm will activate and still play through the speakers. Although, this does eliminate the purpose of having an alarm on the speakers themselves.
Anyways, other than that, the best thing about this system is its remote. While most remotes allow you to change tracks, volume and turn the system on and off, this one allows complete control of the ipod. You can change tracks, change albums, change playlists and highlight tracks as if scrolling through the click wheel. I wish all remotes were this useful. Its also quiet compact and sounds pretty decent for 70 dollar speakers. Plus this thing can run off 4 AA batteries, which makes it nice for tailgates or parties.
I would say if you already have an alarm clock and want a decent set of portable speakers, pick this one up. most other systems in its price range dont offer the remote thats as useful as this one.

I got my Zune about a week ago, after getting rid of my 3G 8GB Nano, that I was not happy with. So this is why I'm more satisfied with the Zune vs. the Nano...

-Shape is easier to hold and use than WS Nano
-LCD is glass, more durable and sharper than plastic on Nano
-Zune Touch Pad is more responsive and precise vs. click wheel
-Wireless sharing/syncing option
-Built-in FM Tuner
-Better sound quality even without EQ...I just hated how bad the Nano sounds even with Shure headphonesSoftware
-Very simple and easy
-Asthetically better than iTunes
User Interface
-No Coverflow but interface is more organized and intuitive
-Customizable background, not an option on Nano
-Easier to read
I have not tested the battery life but it's rated close to the Nano so I'll live with whatever it really is. One thing I haven't checked on but someone else wrote about was the Zune not being a UMS Device when plugged in. Hopefully that's something Microsoft can/will change so that you can store other files on it. Overall, I'm must more satisfied with this player than the Nano.

(More customer reviews)This portable stereo/clock provides great sound from my iPod. It is superior to the sound that I get from the iPod speaker system that I bought for my home last year. I spent approximately the same amount for my other system (a simple speaker and recharging dock with similar sized speakers). Of course, I should include the disclaimer that I'm no audiophile and simply enjoy listening to my iPod in the kitchen on occasion.
The set up was incredibly simple and there were various docking inserts included for whatever device you will use for music. The clock is somewhat small (approximately 1x4 inches) but nice and bright and easy to read.
The clock has an available beeping alarm or it can be set to wake with music.
There is the drawback to needing to add AA batteries in order for it to be truly portable (my husband and I both wondered why it was not rechargable in some manner) and I have not checked to see how long the batteries will power the device on their own. There is a button battery backup for the alarm (included) but if you were camping, or using this for any other means where you don't have a power source, this could be an issue. I personally would plan to use the AV adapter, but that does require that you carry it along wherever you go or just enjoy it only at home.
The size is not that of a mini "travel" clock (it's about 14x6x3 inches), and because you need to bring the chunky power cord along for long term use I don't know that it is ideal for frequent travelers unless they really want to enjoy their music from their iPod or iPhone while away and have lots of room in their suitcase. With batteries installed it won't be lightweight, either. It does fold flat and zip shut, but will not hold anything inside and has no "pocket" or storage area on the outside. If it had a way to stash the iPod and adapter, it would be clunkier but more efficient, in my opinion.
That said, I am going to thoroughly enjoy it plugged in wherever I'd like to listen to my iPod. It may even replace my aging alarm clock in my bedroom. When my husband and kids saw this arrive they were mildly interested in it, but once I plugged it in they began to fight over it. So, there may actually be a battle over who gets to use it the most often unless we get one for each of us.
Bottom line: It's good-looking, easy to use, sounds great and isn't a bad price for the obvious quality.

(More customer reviews)The only drawback is the cutesy appearance which makes this unit look more like a toy than a serious compact sized all in one IPOD dock.
Having had 4 Harmon Kardon Go+Play and being very familier with the HK sound, I consider this a baby Harmon Kardon Go+Play. It doesn't have the same maximum volume but it does get respectably loud with true 24 watts and audio extension down to 60 hz. VERY clear, present and strong. A super unit that's only about 6.3 inches in diameter, making for the best sounding small all in one unit I have ever heard.

The IPIG walls ALL OVER the Boomtube. No comparison- much better frequency response, more presence, clarity, deeper bass, and louder. The only drawback is that this is too small to give stereo separation. This is going to be my new travel music unit. I tested it with wireless microphone and it works great also as an amplification system good enough for speaking to 100 people.

PYLE View Series PLMD3 - Car FM modulator Review

(More customer reviews)Much better than the over-the-air-option you get from Radio Shack or Walmart. Installation is easy, just pull your radio, locate your switched power source (mine was red with a white stripe that I cut and spliced) - you can use a multimeter to see which wire has power with the ignition on and none with the ignition off, connect the black to ground, plug in the antenna wires and you have a stero RCA input in any radio with no static and no effect to other radio stations. There was enough room behind my radio to accomodate this very small box. Add an RCA-to-mini phono cable, and you can play your MP3 player. Installation took me about 15 minutes. Sound quality and volume was the same as a very strong FM station with my ipod at max. Gets the job done well and the price speaks for itself. FIVE STARS!
