Rode PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Review

Rode PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom

Recently a friend and I have been building a game from scratch. While we're in the later stages of this production, We've come to the point where we're in need of voice recording. While trying very hard to avoid building a full blown studio, it became painfully clear that our Dinky little headphone/microphone combo sets where just not going to cut it (which is an issue I brought up many times before with my partner) for our voice recording needs. W cant afford hours and hours of actual studio time getting all our friends and family into a recording booth, and well frankly, I have always wanted to build my self a small scale home recording studio for a good long time now.
So from my own pocket I've undertook the task of putting together at the very least a small pod-casting sort of home studio.
I wanted to avoid as much carpentry as possible (Something I couldn't avoid to build and isolation enclosure for my Loud Desktop PC to reduce sound from it while still keeping it cool and from over heating.) Another thing I wanted was the ability to have my microphone right where and when I needed it.
Here is where the PSA1 comes in. It's stable, Easy to use, Very professional, and above all looks awesome. I mounted the PSA1 to one side of my desk with the included hardware at the back end. Installation couldn't be much easier then a few screws and a little minimal effort. Once mounted, It was there to stay.
When not in use, I have it out of the way so that I can do what I need at my computer. when One of my voice actors come over, or I'm feeling in the mood to add more lines to our game, it's swings over and in place really easy. Once there it just wont move.
I have a MXL Studio 1 in my shock mount and a pop shield to boot. It is all doing exactly what I need it to do, and with my little AdHoc Home Studio, I'm getting just the quality I need for our project.
I am going to have to say, I am 100% satisfied with my investment, and plan on using it further after this project is finished.

Heil Sound PL-2T Silent Professional Microphone Boom Review

Heil Sound PL-2T Silent Professional Microphone Boom
Average Reviews:

An item such as this seems as if it would be a luxury purchase for a non-professional, but I've found it to be a necessity in preparing my podcasts. My desk quickly gets filled with all the items and equipment for the cast -- mixer, interface, computer, notes, etc. -- and the PL2T relieves you of the worry of where to fit in a mic stand. Its precise placement and steadiness allows you to adjust the mic exactly as you need.j Then, when you don't need it, it simply swings to one side and keeps the mic out of the way for the next time.
So far I've used two different mics with it, both with fine results. The first mic required the use of the counterweight, which attached easily.
I'm giving this review less than 5 stars only because the plastic covers that fit over the cord channels tend to pop off, but that's no major concern.

The Heil Sound PL2T 'Topless' mount is a unique and versatile boom that utilizes a system of perfectly balanced internal springs to provide perfect balance and silent, effortless adjustment of its position. The PL2T easily handles microphones weighing up to 3.5 lb. (1.6 kg), and it makes for a professional-looking installation without adding to the clutter in front of you. The Heil PL-2T features a hollow channel that the microphone cable can be fed through and provides the perfect cable maintenance. The unique 'Topless' design of the PL2T allows you to remove the top and back cover plates, so you can thread the microphone cable along the spine of the mount. For mounting of your Heil Microphone, the PL2T accepts all of the Heil (industry standard) 5/8 inch - 27 threaded mic clips or shock mounts. The chrome threaded stem can be locked into the optimum mounting position, depending upon the exact type of microphone and/or shock mount.

Singing Machine ISM-370 Multi-Function Karaoke System with iPod Docking Review

Singing Machine ISM-370 Multi-Function Karaoke System with iPod Docking

I purchased this Karaoke machine specifically because of the iPod docking feature. Once I received it, I found out it is only compatible with iPod Nano 2nd Generation, not the newer iPod Nano (which I will be receiving soon.) Also, the included microphone volume is so low, even when the volume is set the highest it will go, you can barely hear the vocalist over the music. We had to purchase our own better quality microphone to use with it. I would not purchase this again if I had the option.

Tech TalkCDG: An acronym for Compact Disc plus Graphics, this is a regular CD with information stored on a data track simultaneous to music. In laymen's terms, CDG has a video output for simple graphics (not full motion video). In the case of karaoke, the graphics function is used to store song lyrics, and display the lyrics in synch with the music. In most cases, CDG software displays lyrics, which change color as they are to be sung. A regular television is all that is required to display CDG lyrics.
Echo: Produced by creating minor controlled feedback in the singer's voice, echo adds depth and resonance. The echo function does not affect the music.
Auto Voice Control (AVC): This useful function is used primarily during practice sessions while a singer is learning a song. Please note that the AVC function only works with multiplex recordings and not with standard audio recordings.
Multiplex: A Multiplex allows you to separate the vocals and music by using the balance control on your Singing Machine Karaoke System.
