Uniden TRU9488 Expandable Corded/Cordless Combination System with Digital Answering System, Dual Keypad, and Call Waiting/Caller ID Review

Uniden TRU9488 Expandable Corded/Cordless Combination System with Digital Answering System, Dual Keypad, and Call Waiting/Caller ID

I would have rated 4 1/2 stars, just for the minor Cons below, but couldn't, so rated the full 5. Can't attest to the interference with a wireless network, because I'm not there yet but....
Pros:
1. Renaming handsets to location, e.g., Bedroom, Cellar, 1st Floor.
2. Can turn main ringer off on base or handset (in the bedroom, for instance), but still use Transfer Call and Intercom features to that hanset. VERY HANDY FOR LARGE OR MULTIFLOOR HOMES. (Ring is also adjustable.)
3. Phone book. Set it up on the base and send to all the handsets.
4. Adds a "1" to long distance numbers from Caller ID just by pushing the */tone key.
5. Listen to messages from any handset.
6. Audible "Message Indicator." Can turn on or off.
7. Lighted keys (on handsets) and displays.
8. Easy to find the instructions for all the features in the manual. (The PDF manual from Uniden has hyperlinks from the Table of Contents and Index.)
9. Can set handset to "Answer" when picked up from charge base. Handy for the "transfer call" feature so there is only one button to push when you pick up. (Otherwise you have to push green button twice if it's a transferred call, not just an Intercom call--kind of clumsy for the technophobes in the house--see Cons.)
10. Range is excellent (just under .1 mile at my house in the country), great for those with large yards.
11. Two or more handsets can be used at one time. You don't have to "Transfer" the call, you can pick up and join the call, just like in the old days. (Some systems don't allow this!)
12. Corded (for power outages) and cordless combination.
Cons (non deal-breakers, in my opinion):
1. Ringers could be louder on "high" setting. If you listen to your stereo on the loud side the phone is difficult to hear.
2. No different ring tones on the base.
3. If you have any technophobes in the house it may be difficult to get them to utilize all the features with you, because of the menus and such. (That is probably more of a personal con than that of the phone!)
4. One or two too many buttons to push to delete a Caller ID number. (Do you really need an "Are you sure?" message for such a simple decision?)
5. Can't delete the Caller ID numbers from all the phones at once. (Although before I got this system that was the case anyway.)
6. Not wall mountable. (Not an issue for me, but I wouldn't let it be a deal-breaker. Why does the corded base HAVE to be on the kitchen wall, for instance.)
I have already recommended this system to friends. Wish I had gotten to my mother before she got the VTech IA5874, which doesn't allow multiple handset use and calls have to be transferred from one handset to the next (plus, no corded base).

This is an *AWESOME* phone! I've had this unit since August 2007, and has been working eversince with no issues! The battery life is exceptional with talk time averaging about 5-6 hours depending on how often i've used it. The past reviewers of this product apparently, did not know how to program it properly. And i do agree, however, that the instructions are poorly written. But i did do a little more research on Skype and you'll need to install the current Skypemate firmware to make the unit fully operational as advertised. The following links are the download page where you can download the Skypemate firmware for *FREE*-

AT&T E5965C 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System Review

ATandT E5965C 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've looked and read many reviews of the phones in this catagory. The negative reviews of this phone almost kept me from purchasing the 5965C (I'm convinced some of the reviews are for different model phone). I didn't purchase through Amazon, because I wanted to see and feel the phones before making a decision. I'm glad I went with my "gut feeling" about this rather than the evaluations. You can't see quality or how the buttons are laid out and function on-line. This phone feels and looks like what I'm use to and has the quality few phones have. The buttons are positioned where I expect them to be and are large enough for reading without my reading glasses. This phone was designed for those in my age bracket (middle age). I found top rated phones that reposition the buttons (VTech) where you wouldn't expect them to be or have buttons so small and pushed together, misdialing is going to happen more frequently. In my book, a phone should FIRST be easy to use, everything else is secondary.
I consider it a plus that it uses easy-to-find-anywhere batteries. The battery backup feature was one of those secondary features that appealed to me, since we loose our power once or twice a year. The inexpensive batteries allow me to have several around for any emergency.
Another positive is the color display on the handheld unit. It is in full color (not a monochrome version of color which is a different model). I find the color enhances the visibilty of the phone icon system and alpha-numeric characters (without my reading glasses).
The ability to transfer calls from one handheld to another will reduce the frustration of running upstairs to see if a family member is around to take a call. You can also call another handheld and carry out a conversation (now my family may never see me :-).
Everything works as expected, though I can't find any information / documentation about how to setup pictures of family and friends to show up with the CID system. Not that I would actually use that feature... You can add Caller ID's into your phone book AND setup whether a "1" is needed or not when redialing that number.
Lastly, the voice quality is as good as any quality corded phone. Unless you want one of the new-purposes-for-a-phone (play music, synchronize phone books, or display images), you would do well to buy this phone. Yes, you could pay less for a phone with equal sound clarity, but you won't find better quality than the 5965C. [I don't work or have any investment in AT&T]

The E5965C from AT&T is a 5.8 GHz cordless phone with an all-digital answering system, dual keypads, and caller ID/call waiting compatibility. It utilizes the 5.8 GHz frequency along with frequency-hopping digital spread spectrum technology to provide clearer reception and less interference than traditional 2.4 GHz or 900 MHz phones. The answering machine provides up to 25 minutes of recording time, while remote operation lets you check messages even when you are away from home.
With multi-user expandability to eight handsets (one included), you place additional extensions wherever you need them, while intercom and conferencing functions allow you to communicate between handset locations or with multiple parties at once. A full-color graphical LCD on the handset provides a way to navigate the phone's many functions, including caller ID information. A 50-number caller ID memory and a 50-number internal phone directory help you keep track of important phone numbers.
Additional features include speakerphones in both the base and handset and headset compatibility to provide hands-free communication options. Personalized ringing tones allow you to assign any of the polyphonic musical ring sounds to a phone directory entry, letting you know when a specific party is calling. The E5965C has an 8.5-by-8.7-inch footprint and is wall-mountable, freeing up countertop space completely. It is backed by a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box Base, wall mounting adapter, cordless handset, two telephone line cords, AC adapter, two AA NiMH batteries, belt clip, user's manual

Motorola MD7081 5.8GHz Digital 2-line Phone Review

Motorola MD7081 5.8GHz Digital 2-line Phone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I always like to identify with the lineage of my Motorola products and their engineers: truly original equipment gizmo guys (Walkie-Talkies, car radios, Amiga chips, cell phones). However, I just could not get either of the 2 MD7081 units I tried to work right in my house. Along with many others, I had been awaiting a 5.8Ghz 2-line, expandable (more than 4 handsets) system that would not fight with my Netgear Wireless G WRT54GS Wi-Fi network. I have been barely tolerating the Siemens system for years, so I was ready for the relief from noise and garble promised by the 5.8 systems. Here were the 2 problems: without any doubt, when the MD7081 was powered up, it degraded the Wi-Fi performance horribly. And, line 1 rang on the handset only every other ring on one of my lines. If I switched the inputs, so that that the telephone was receiving the signal from my other line, it worked fine. And so did the "trouble" line ring ok on the handset position 2. This was so on both units I tried. I thought about the ringer equivalent load on the 2 phone lines and so on, but this was too weird for me. I could not have switched the line 1 and line 2 designations on only some of the phones in my house, because my business calls come in on line 2 and no-one else should answer them. So, I returned both units and await relief from some new model. BTW, the Amazon price, review, and return policies give me the confidence to try new items, which I rarely find the need to return, but when I have to, I really appreciate the convenience.

A well-designed system for home offices or talkative family members, the Motorola MD7081 is built to handle two separate phone lines. Expandable to a total of eight handsets, the system includes a 30-minute digital answering system with two mailboxes. The base system is the only part that requires a phone jack, allowing you to add extra handsets wherever you like. Each handset can operate as part of an in-house intercom system, access conference calls and even function as a baby monitor; each also includes a headset jack and belt clip for hands-free operation.
The answering system is accessible from each handset, as well as the base, and allows memo recording and messages to be forwarded to cell or office numbers. With subscription to local service, each handset is call waiting/caller ID compatible, storing up to 50 names and numbers of the most recent callers. Numbers can be stored, deleted or moved into the permanent phonebook with just a few clicks. Twenty-four selectable ringtones are available, and the base is wall mountable.
With the addition of four AAA batteries (not included), the system will continue to function during power outages. Motorola includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

I have a DCT640 and my one year old tossed one of the phones in the toilet. The LCD never worked again on it, and they do not make DCX640 any more. I ordered one of these and it worked! The phone book would not transfer, but everything else worked fine. Even the the old charger works with the phone. One of my other DCX640s has a button that sticks, so I just ordered a second one of these. Its nice to have backward compatibility! Good job Uniden.

Uniden TRU9496 2-Line Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System Review

Uniden TRU9496 2-Line Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a system to replace an aging Siemens 8825.
After trying the Panasonic KX-TG6700B (defective), the
Motorola MD7081 and MD7091 (both have terrible sound quality),
and the AT&T EP5962 (poor button layout and feel and display) I decided to
try a Uniden product. So far, the TRU9496 is getting the job done.
What's good:

1.Good size, feel and layout.
2.Easy to set up.
3.Speaker volume on the base and handset speakerphones
Is excellent.
4.Sound quality on the base and handset is excellent.
5.Phonebook can be searched by first letter of the name.
6.Phonebook allows two phone numbers per name.
7.A handset can communicate with another handset directly,
Like a walkie-talkie.
8.Base display shows how many messages are in the answering
Machine separately for each line.
9.Base and handset displays show date and time.
10.A waterproof handset is available (TWX977).
11. Keypad on the handset is backlit.
What's not so good:
1.Range is ok but could be a little better.
2.Ringer volume control is not great. There are only two settings:
Low is to low, and high is too high.
This phone system should be seriously considered for its sound clarity
And excellent set of features.

Update,
I have been using these (with 9 handsets) for over 3 years now. Zero problems and they are fantastic for its price.=============================================================
I did not experiece the two problems mentioned below by previous reviewers:
1. I have comcast phoneline & this Uniden system works great.
2. It comes with all Cordless batteries. It doesn't come with a 9V battery, how difficult is it find one at walmart/target. This comes with all the accessories needed.
I added 6 handsets. The entire house is co-ordinated so well:
Best features I love are:
1. Monitor any room you want in a flash
2. Privacy option prevents your guests monitoring you
3. Do not disturb button keeps all units quiet.
4. Global settings. Awesome - you set the settings in base, it applies automatically to all other units.
5. you can label each handset.
6. registering the handset to the base was a dream, put the handset in the base for 5 sec & you are done.
7. walkie-talkie feature
8. check messages from any handset.
9. all handsets have a red blinking light if there is a message. so, no need to run to base to check messages.
10. you can record a conversation.
11. you can enter your local area code, so when you dial local #s, no need to dial area code.
I just got it a week ago & it works like a dream. I will provide an update in a month or so.

Uniden TCX905 Accessory Handset and Charger with Call Waiting and Caller ID Review

Uniden TCX905 Accessory Handset and Charger with Call Waiting and Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought two of these to supplement my Uniden Tru8888 after researching compatibility. While the software driving these phones has much of the interface of the TCX805/Tru888x line, I'll cut my stars accordingly for the Tru888x line. Comments about this expansion handset:
- The four-way joystick-like button is a blessing. The up-down buttons on the TCX805 are OK but the left-right buttons fail to work when editing a number in the phone book especially to add the 1 before an area code. They instead add # and *. Here, you don't have to re-type the whole number, just move where you want with the joystick. The odd but subsequently convenient Space typed by right-arrowing in text is gone, apparently replaced by the character range on zero, one of which is a space. Operation in low light is a lot easier with the big joystick button.
- Two numbers per phonebook entry seems to be new here, and I like it.
- The quality of sound, range and the clarity of the speakerphone on the handset remain excellent.
- They seem to mate to a TCX805 charger but don't seem to fit in right. So if you have a mix, don't interchange their charger bases.
- I like the overall feel and I prefer using the 905's in the bedrooms (where you might have to use them in the dark) and the 805 remains in the living room.
I'll update with my experiences as I continue to use them. For now, the TCX905 gets all five stars.

Panasonic Dect 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System - 4 Handset System (KX-TG9334T) Review

Panasonic Dect 6.0 Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System - 4 Handset System (KX-TG9334T)
Average Reviews:

The battle between WiFi and wireless telephones.
We had a mixture of 2.4 gigahertz phones for years that coexisted peacefully with our old wireless G router. Well, the router died and we needed a new one. The newest technology for wireless is "N" with Mimo Technology, which supports both N and G wireless networks. So, of course we buy. After all, now is the future, right?
Mimo WiFi uses several different radio frequency channels (in the 2.4 gigahertz range for G networks) at the same time to assure an optimal radio signal to your WiFi laptops (in our case, G). This works great for the WiFi network, BUT......every time our telephones rang...Poof, the WiFi Signal got scrambled and we lost the network. We tried setting different channels on the phones and the router, nothing worked.
So being in the market for a major upgrade with our now antiquated phone system, we bought this Dect. 6.0 system that uses the 1.9 gigahertz frequency.
First of all..no interference in the WiFi network....NONE!
There are also a few features that I like.
We can now communicate and transfer calls with each other over 5 acres of land with complete security.
Talking Caller ID enables me to save a few steps and decide if I want to answer the call.
Since Vonage (my phone service) does not have specific call block, this phone can block certain pesky incoming calls and give the abusive callers a busy signal to listen to. This is a great feature and the only way Panasonic could improve on it, is to give us a choice between the busy signal or tones that indicate that the phone has been disconnected.
I can't say anything about the voice mail except that you can turn it off quite easily. We use the Vonage voice mail and are quite happy with it.
We are easily adding to the phone book as calls are coming in. I think it is a bit of a hassle to add them in manually.
Different ring tones are nice, and sound pretty. All of us have set up different ring tones and it is quite a symphony in the house when all the phones play their distinct melodies.
Each phone has a speaker phone and my friends can't tell I am using it.
Only the main base need to be plugged into a backup power supply if you want to do that.
All in all, I am very satisfied and am going to add 2 more phones to my 4 phone system.
12/16/2010 Edited to say that phones are still working, but I did have to replace the rechargeable batteries on one of them. The plus side to this is that they are easily replaceable; two Triple A (AAA), Nickle Metal Hydrides!

I am quite pleased with this phone. I have had it a few months now and I have not had any problems. I had looked at buying this phone on eBay, but I found it at the same price here on Amazon (once you figure shipping and everything). The sound quality is very clear, and the range is quite good. It does not interfere with my wireless 802.11g network at all. I have only a few complaints. The buttons on the base station are small and not laid out too intuitively. You have to clear the Caller ID info on the handset(s) and the base station individually. And the ringer on the base station has 3 settings; Annoying, Very annoying, and Off (The handset ringers are pretty good though). The battery life so far has been fine. I like that you can transfer phonebooks between the handset and the base station, and that you can check messages from the base station or the handset. I researched quite a few 5.8GHz phones, including all of the similar Panasonics, most of the Motorolas, and a few of the VTechs. And this family of Uniden phones (there are 2 handset and 3 handset versions also) seemed to be the best.

Uniden CellLink ELBT595 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Flip Phone with Color LCD, Answering System, and Bluetooth Capability (Titanium) Review

Uniden CellLink ELBT595 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Flip Phone with Color LCD, Answering System, and Bluetooth Capability (Titanium)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was all hyped up about getting this phone and that feeling faded after only 24hrs of owning it. This phone represents a good try by Uniden, but I feel that it needs to go back for a version 2. First, for me, the ringers on this phone do not ring loud enough (with a few expectations)....Uniden does allow you to set the base station to ring, and it does ring loudly (too loudly at night) but that defeats the reason to have a cordless phone if you are attached to the base station all day. The LCD on the closed clamshell isn't very good. It is easier to read when the backlighting is off then when on. The hinge on my phone squeaked when opening and closing and the keys on the handset feel cheap, not what you should expect from at $250 phone. The software to program the phone is nice, easy to use, and made it really convenient to program in over 50 names and reminder dates, but it would have been nice if Uniden would have allowed you to download ringtones into the phone via the software and USB cable, rather then having to record it into the phone via a mic or a line setup. The color screen is nice and bright, but too small...its like 150 pixels X 150 pixels and the images you can download for your contacts become the size of a postage stamp CUT IN HALF!! Overall it is an average phone, not worth $250, maybe $160....all I know is mine is going back to the store for a refund. See you next time Uniden.

With the ELBT595, Uniden introduces CellLink, the latest cordless technology that lets your cordless home phone access your cellular phone's minutes. How Does Bluetooth Work? Bluetooth technology has been incorporated into this phone to make it easy to communicate with either a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or a wireless headset. You don't even have to think about it. Bluetooth doesn't require you to do anything special to make it work. The devices find each other and strike up a conversation without any user input at all. Now you can tap into your cell phone minutes to take advantage of your cellular plan, or just go hands-free using your land line for crystal-clear communication anywhere in the house.
How Does CellLink Work? Uniden CellLink technology lets you easily take advantage of your cell phone's minutes. If you have a Bluetooth v1.1 compliant mobile phone and register it to the base, you can make or receive a call through your mobile line as well as your normal land line. To use your mobile line, press the Mobile soft key. The two lines will be completely independent on your ELBT595. For example, you can have one handset operating on the land line while another handset and the base unit participate in a three-way conference call on the mobile line. However, you cannot make or receive a land line call using a Bluetooth mobile phone, and a Bluetooth mobile phone will not ring when the ELBT595 receives a land line calI.
Easy, Powerful Features Additional features include enhanced caller ID so you can see who's calling with a unique full color picture and distinctive ring. The digital answering system quickly access your answering system using your handset or your base. Volume settings adjust the ringer and speaker volumes on your handset. An advanced phonebook organizes your names and numbers, with special capabilities like storing four numbers per name and sorting names into groups.
You can easily update your phonebook settings using your computer with the USB connector and software included. Enjoy hands-free communication without wires using a Bluetooth headset or the hands-free speakerphone. Easily navigate features with a joystick and soft-key menus. Record your own ringer tones with the audio cable or handset microphone (cable included).
