Audiovox SIR-BB1 Sirius Satellite Radio Portable Boombox for SIR-PNP2 Receiver Review

Audiovox SIR-BB1 Sirius Satellite Radio Portable Boombox for SIR-PNP2 Receiver
Average Reviews:

This will be my first month with sirius and I am very happy with the product. I'd thought about waiting till the end of next year to buy it because all I wanted to do was to listen to Howard Stern. But then I heard of his promotion plus sirius had special NFL programing. Then I saw this boombox, wow, I had to have it. I like it. Its portable so I can bring it from room to room (although I need to put my antenna by the window for the best reception). It works great. The only thing bad about it is you can't adjust the volume with your remote control (even though you can't also with your stereo unless you use your stereo's remote). so if the radio is playing a little too loud and you get a phone call you have to get up to lower it or turn it off. Otherwise this is a cool boombox. I see that they are also selling the SPB1 Sportster boombox and I'm thinking about getting that (new look), but check your reciever first. If you dont have Sportster SPR1 receiver the new sports boombox will not fit. For all you Stern fans out there, you dont have to wait till next year to get sirius. They have plenty of channels to keep you happy. If you dont want to pay monthly, they have a lifetime membership subcription as well so you wont be spending anything extra if you get it now instead of nex year. Satellite Radio is going be what cable television has change regular television.

ETON S350 AM/FM Shortwave Radio Review

ETON S350 AM/FM Shortwave Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This radio is of excellent quality and the receive on AM, FM and shortwave is very good. Being a ham radio operator I really appreciate the rotary tuning knob that has a fine tuning adjustment knob built in. I just can't see myself buying an expensive shortwave radio with no tuning knob. Half the fun of radio is being able to play with a VFO!
I also own the GE superadio that other reviewers have commented on. The Grundig does not feel and look cheap like the GE superadio but the GE superadio will outperform the Grundig in a side by side comparison. The superadio has two speakers that are designed for better fidelity and louder audio than the smaller Grundigs single speaker can achieve. When listening to weak stations in heavy static on the AM band the superadio did a better job of pulling out the audio.
The shortwave reception is the best part of the radio however and this radio is a real jewel for shortwave use! The selectivity is great, no overlapping of stations that is found on cheaper shortwave radios like the Sangean SG 622. The radios sensitivity is excellent also, I could not ask for better performane from a shortwave radio. I know I made the correct decision passing up some of the more expensive Sony and Grundig shortwave radios that look so tempting to buy but lack a knob to tune with.

Sony ICF-CD73V Shower CD Player/Clock Radio (White) Review

Sony ICF-CD73V Shower CD Player/Clock Radio (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros: Reception, Features, all digital, looks, build like a tank.
Cons: Price.
I picked this up to replace a piece of junk Curtis shower radio I bought my wife from Best Buy. She was so dissapointed in the Curtis because no stations would come in on its analog tuner.
The Sony was everything the cheaper Curtis wasn't. It is fully digital including the tuner. It has an external antenna and the reception is great. It sounds great for a littler radio with a even a bit of bass. The auto off feature will let you turn this thing on first thing in the morning and not worry about draining the batteries by leaving it on all day. Aditionally, it comes with a rope strap that will let you hang it from about anything. It is a bit on the heavy side because it is built solid as a rock.
The final word is I am super pleased with this little radio. My only gripe is the price: ... ouch. But if you believe that you get what you pay for...

Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter for iPod Mini Review

Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter for iPod Mini
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The itrip mini does what it advertizes: fits the sleek lines of the mini ipod without adding much bulk at all, and transmits your tunes to a radio tuned to frequency (defaults to 87.9, but you can adjust that by installing the simple software provided with the itrip).
Living in LA, there are VERY limited options insofar as stations not in use. 87.9 is actually one of the few options. The sound quality was awful. I tried using this device in my car, in my room, in my home stereo - all with the same lousy results.
I should have listened to the advice of the salesperson at the Apple store and gotten the cassette device to play my ipod music on other sound systems.
Bottomline: it works, but sounds like music playing on a radio station that doesn't quite come in clearly - static. Poor volume, and very poor sound quality.

AT&T E5965C 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System Review

ATandT E5965C 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've looked and read many reviews of the phones in this catagory. The negative reviews of this phone almost kept me from purchasing the 5965C (I'm convinced some of the reviews are for different model phone). I didn't purchase through Amazon, because I wanted to see and feel the phones before making a decision. I'm glad I went with my "gut feeling" about this rather than the evaluations. You can't see quality or how the buttons are laid out and function on-line. This phone feels and looks like what I'm use to and has the quality few phones have. The buttons are positioned where I expect them to be and are large enough for reading without my reading glasses. This phone was designed for those in my age bracket (middle age). I found top rated phones that reposition the buttons (VTech) where you wouldn't expect them to be or have buttons so small and pushed together, misdialing is going to happen more frequently. In my book, a phone should FIRST be easy to use, everything else is secondary.
I consider it a plus that it uses easy-to-find-anywhere batteries. The battery backup feature was one of those secondary features that appealed to me, since we loose our power once or twice a year. The inexpensive batteries allow me to have several around for any emergency.
Another positive is the color display on the handheld unit. It is in full color (not a monochrome version of color which is a different model). I find the color enhances the visibilty of the phone icon system and alpha-numeric characters (without my reading glasses).
The ability to transfer calls from one handheld to another will reduce the frustration of running upstairs to see if a family member is around to take a call. You can also call another handheld and carry out a conversation (now my family may never see me :-).
Everything works as expected, though I can't find any information / documentation about how to setup pictures of family and friends to show up with the CID system. Not that I would actually use that feature... You can add Caller ID's into your phone book AND setup whether a "1" is needed or not when redialing that number.
Lastly, the voice quality is as good as any quality corded phone. Unless you want one of the new-purposes-for-a-phone (play music, synchronize phone books, or display images), you would do well to buy this phone. Yes, you could pay less for a phone with equal sound clarity, but you won't find better quality than the 5965C. [I don't work or have any investment in AT&T]

The E5965C from AT&T is a 5.8 GHz cordless phone with an all-digital answering system, dual keypads, and caller ID/call waiting compatibility. It utilizes the 5.8 GHz frequency along with frequency-hopping digital spread spectrum technology to provide clearer reception and less interference than traditional 2.4 GHz or 900 MHz phones. The answering machine provides up to 25 minutes of recording time, while remote operation lets you check messages even when you are away from home.
With multi-user expandability to eight handsets (one included), you place additional extensions wherever you need them, while intercom and conferencing functions allow you to communicate between handset locations or with multiple parties at once. A full-color graphical LCD on the handset provides a way to navigate the phone's many functions, including caller ID information. A 50-number caller ID memory and a 50-number internal phone directory help you keep track of important phone numbers.
Additional features include speakerphones in both the base and handset and headset compatibility to provide hands-free communication options. Personalized ringing tones allow you to assign any of the polyphonic musical ring sounds to a phone directory entry, letting you know when a specific party is calling. The E5965C has an 8.5-by-8.7-inch footprint and is wall-mountable, freeing up countertop space completely. It is backed by a one-year warranty.

SanDisk 512 MB MP3 Player Blue Review

SanDisk 512 MB MP3 Player Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Nice little mp3 player, solid and small. I got mine from Amazon for $108, Newegg didn't have it in stock at the time:-( Anyway great little mp3 player, I was considering the Creative Muvo N200 and the Muvo TX FM both 512MB models, both have radio also and cost about the same as the sandisk, the N200 has a line in, the TX FM doesn't. The Muvo TX FM can also be used as a flash drive for moving files of any type and does not need a cable to connect to a pc. They are nice products, but after I saw them in a store I realized that they were too small and the screens were microscopic.

I have perfect eye sight but I am so accustomed to my Iriver IMP-350's nice remote with good display size( a CD MP3 player). I looked at the manuals of the creative Muvo's and the sandisk SDMX1-512 and was able to see that the interface and menus of the Sandisk player was superior to the Creative Muvo's. [...] I also considered the Iriver flash players, but they were too expensive(still are). I have only used my Sandisk player for 2 days now and it has given me no problems.

The file transfer is very fast and the battery life seems pretty good so far. The battery is at 3/4 bars after 2 days of use, and it's the cheap alkaline battery that came with the player. I have one complaint, I wish it came with a neck strap like the creative Muvo's. I used a strap from an old pair of sun glasses. It comes with a nice clear plastic protective case and a set of cheap air phones, plus a nice velcro arm strap for all you joggers. The quick start manual is ok, the full manual if on the CD or the website. It's got a nice backlight and clear screen, sound quality is excellent and radio reception is very good, better than my Iriver IMP-350's reception.

The CD comes with musicmatch jukeboox version 9, I didn't even install it, it's crap, stick with winamp or media player. You don't have to install any drivers for windows xp. The entire screen flashes when transferring files, which is super fast. Voice recording is ok, I wish it had radio recording like the creative models though.
This player is great and cheap, go for it, you won't be sorry:-)
Tuki

Memorex MC1008 Shower CD Radio Review

Memorex MC1008 Shower CD Radio
Average Reviews:

My parents introduced this as my "expensive" Christmas gift, so I feel bad that they wasted so much money.
I put in the 6 C batteries and by the end of the cd, they were nearly drained. I bought more, but I couldn't get anything to work - no radio reception, screen read "error" every time I put in a cd. I bought an adapter, but still couldn't get it to work again. I tried for so long to get it going. Wish I'd read the reviews on this site earlier. I would've accepted that it was a shoddy product much earlier. Memorex has some cheek!

Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PB10-CDR-RT Power Box Advanced Job Site Radio with CD Player and Remote Control Review

Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PB10-CDR-RT Power Box Advanced Job Site Radio with CD Player and Remote Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I saw this device on job-site not too long after it was released. I had to search around to find it, now it's for sale everywhere.
Pros:
-cage allows it to be chained down with ladders and job box.
-cord wrap keeps cable tidy when not in use.
-light weight.
-square shape lets you stack it on a two wheeler (unlike the DW & Mil).
-snap-down CD tray keeps discs from jamming if you tip it or crash into it with a skyjack.
-EQ was designed to be LOUD and fill a room with sound (see cons).
-on-board GFCI cleans up cable clutter.
-12v output and mini-jack input lets me tie in an i-pod or other gear.
-battery charger cabinet holds 8-9 CD jewel cases for safe transport!
CONS:
-EQ was not designed for the audiophile carpenter. If you want booming lows and tight high-end, buy a Bose Wave Radio and hope you don't trash it.
-no line out jack for sending to a transmitter or other device.
-FM reception is garbage, I use CDs and MP3s unless we are listening to AM.
-backlit display is not designed for viewing above horizontal. If you have the box setting on the ground, you must tip it back (or lay on the floor) to read the display. From above you see all possible icons.
-volume control doesn't give you much room for subtle music. I normally keep it on 1 or 2. Volume is electronic with a momentary up-down control via a shuttle knob (on the left)
-GFCI doors flip up, so you have to tip the unit to the side to see the plugs for mating. I just tore the doors off after a while. I figured, why have rain lids? I work indoors well after the job has been dry.
-all of the nooks and crannies on the molded case collect a LOT of dust and debris.
HINT!
The antenna is discretely hidden in the round top handle. I disassembled the unit, cut the antenna lead to the handle and soldered it to a retractable antenna (from my local RadioShack) that I attached easily to the top of the main shell. I do not reccomend this procedure, but I can tell you, it SIGNIFICANTLY increased my FM reception.

PIONEER AirWare XM2Go Portable XM Satellite Radio Receiver Review

PIONEER AirWare XM2Go Portable XM Satellite Radio Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't normally submit "product opinions" (I know, shame on me) but this portable XM radio from Pioneer is so good that I felt that I had to. I had been considering getting some kind of a satellite radio for my car for more than 6 months and when I found out that a friend of mine had a Delphi XM unit in his car I knew that the time had come to finally make a move :-)
I was thinking of getting a Delphi MyFi but then discovered that the Pioneer AirWare had recently hit the store shelves. I like the Pioneer brand and also liked the looks (and controls) of the Pioneer unit more than those of the MyFi .. so I picked up an AirWare at the local Circuit City (can get it cheaper elsewhere for sure). I have had it for 3 weeks now and during this time have used it EXTENSIVELY in the car, in my home office and also on business trips. It works great !
I am especially impressed by the effectiveness of the built-in FM transmitter ... I have used a few built-in and external FM transmitters in my time over the past few years but haven't had much luck with them (too much interference from other radio stations). I was pleasantly surprised (and relieved) to discover that the AirWare's transmitter is VERY effective ... I have been driving around the Connecticut/ Westchester County/NYC/Long Island region quite a bit since I got it, without having to switch FM frequencies at all !
The features and sound quality of the unit are great. It is very useful that you can record up to 5 hours of audio (via a "scheduled record" function) that you can then listen to offline when the satellite reception is not up to snuff. Another neat feature is that if you hear a song or artist that you like, you can press a button and from then on whenever that same song or artist is playing on any of the 150+ channels the unit beeps and displays a message so that, if you want, you can press the same button and the unit automatically switches to the relevant channel.
The AirWare comes with everything that you neeed to set it up at home or in a car. When using the AirWare in my car I use the "vent mount" to secure it (in its cradle) to an air vent. I have the antenna magnetically-mounted outside on the front part of the car roof. On some of the more tree-lined roads of Connecticut, satellite reception can sometimes be spotty ... you need to have line-of-sight to the XM satellites which are positioned in the southern sky .. but generally reception is very good. All-in-all I am very happy that I got it ... it is a very, very well designed and executed product ... plus the breadth and quality of the XM programming is great.
In summary I can heartily recommend both the Pioneer AirWare and the XM service !

Etón FR500 Solarlink (Black) Review

Etón FR500 Solarlink (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We are pretty happy with our Solarlink and use it during power outages (our recent outage was 4 days in length), in the yard, and camping. I will break down the review by parts and attributes.
LED light: Quite bright
siren: Obnoxious, questionably useful
flashing LED: A single flashing red LED. Perhaps useful as a signal.
handcrank: Easy to use, has a green LED to indicate adequate cranking speed. Can crank in any direction.
reception: FM, AM, and NOAA station very good. SW is weak.
sound: Clear
weight: ~2 lbs., very light
LCD screen: Large easy to read numbers with backlighting option
clock: Easy to read and set (can read from across the room)
alarm: Clock radio, easy to set, has snooze button
power options: Very versatile. Solar, crank, 3 AA batteries, and AC. Does not come with DC power adapter, but can use a mini-USB charger (like the one on my cell phone) or a standard 5V DC connection. Many car cell phone chargers are also mini-USB
other connectors: Regular USB out for powering cell phones, PDAs, MP3 players. Two mini-HPJ's; one for earphones, one for audio-in (ie MP3 players).
Knobs: Inset knobs keep your settings steady when transporting.
owner manual: The Solarlink is fairly self explanatory which is good because the owners manual was not very useful. I would like a much more technical owners manual.
In short, we were looking for a radio that has many power options, NOAA stations, and is very portable. The Solarlink meets these requirements well. Probably not the radio of choice if you want SAME capability, good SW reception, or excellent stereo sound. Overall though we are very happy.
