Terk Indoor AM Antenna ADVANTAGE Review

Terk Indoor AM Antenna ADVANTAGE
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a stickler for performance, and have high expectations for electronic equipment... especially when I hear fellow users raving about a certain product.
After getting the Terk AM Advantage to use primarily with my CC Radio, I have to say I'm not dissappointed. Giving it 5 stars would be saying that it goes beyond my expectations. The 4 star rating means that it comes pretty damn close!
Anyway, it does a fine job. The great thing, is that it can be used with ANY radio with or without external antenna terminals. I find it seems to work better without the hookup. Tuning the stations can be a bit tricky at times. The dial is slightly off and registers a station a few kHz higher than it is, and must be turned various ways near the radio to accurately do its job. It even seems to do quite well at being able to resist stronger signals that are adjecent to weaker ones.
For the AM DX'er, or lover of good `ol AM radio in general, it's an answer to a prayer!

Audiovox SIR-BB1 Sirius Satellite Radio Portable Boombox for SIR-PNP2 Receiver Review

Audiovox SIR-BB1 Sirius Satellite Radio Portable Boombox for SIR-PNP2 Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This will be my first month with sirius and I am very happy with the product. I'd thought about waiting till the end of next year to buy it because all I wanted to do was to listen to Howard Stern. But then I heard of his promotion plus sirius had special NFL programing. Then I saw this boombox, wow, I had to have it. I like it. Its portable so I can bring it from room to room (although I need to put my antenna by the window for the best reception). It works great. The only thing bad about it is you can't adjust the volume with your remote control (even though you can't also with your stereo unless you use your stereo's remote). so if the radio is playing a little too loud and you get a phone call you have to get up to lower it or turn it off. Otherwise this is a cool boombox. I see that they are also selling the SPB1 Sportster boombox and I'm thinking about getting that (new look), but check your reciever first. If you dont have Sportster SPR1 receiver the new sports boombox will not fit. For all you Stern fans out there, you dont have to wait till next year to get sirius. They have plenty of channels to keep you happy. If you dont want to pay monthly, they have a lifetime membership subcription as well so you wont be spending anything extra if you get it now instead of nex year. Satellite Radio is going be what cable television has change regular television.

Griffin Technology 4026-LCDT iTrip LCD FM Transmitter for iPod Review

Griffin Technology 4026-LCDT iTrip LCD FM Transmitter for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The original Griffin iTrip became one of the best selling iPod accessories. People love their iPods, and the ability to take the music on the road, in their car, is a desired feature.
However, many of today's automobiles do not include a stereo with line-in, and cassette players are rarely found in cars today, which eliminates the ability to use a cassette adapter. What does this leave? A FM transmitter.
The original iTrip offered good performance, for a FM transmitter. That is the key, for a FM transmitter. FM transmitters will not sound like a CD, cassette, and in some cases it won't even sound as good as a strong FM radio station, in your area. However, many times, the iTrip does a satisfactory job. It works even better, if you're in a rural area, where there is a wide selection of empty FM frequencies.
Improvements over original iTrip
The new iTrip features an LCD, with the ability to change the FM frequency broadcasted to, directly on the iTrip. Previously, you had to navigate to the iTrip stations on your iPod, select a frequency, and press the pause button at just the right moment. That inconvenience is gone with the new iTrip with LCD. Simply twist to your desired station, and you're done.
More Broadcast Modes - You now have the ability to transmit in stereo, or mono sound. Stereo sound will be the highest quality, in good situations. However, if you find lots of static and interference, switch to the mono-sound mode. This allows a stronger signal, which may eliminate the static, unfortunately you lose the depth of stereo sound, but if you're listening to a podcast monaural sound is fine.
Better Battery Life - The new iTrip seems to drain significantly less battery life, than the original iTrip. Sure, it will still cut your iPod's battery life by several hours, but it is less dramatic than the original.
Overall, Griffin has improved upon perhaps their most popular iPod accessory, and they improved it in a big way. The ease to change the frequency you broadcast to is fantastic, and the improvements in performance and battery life are appreciated too. The Griffin iTrip with LCD FM Transmitter will not sound like CD audio, but it is a great way to listen to the thousands of songs on your iPod, in your car. Furthermore, the improvements to this newest model will make you find the experience of using a FM transmitter a little more bearable.

Zadro Shower Bug AM/FM Radio with Clock Review

Zadro Shower Bug AM/FM Radio with Clock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's a cute little radio, nice and compact. The clock can keep time. That's where the usefullness ends. It is difficult to tune. The antenna got rusted. It was very inexpensive... but in this case, you get what you pay for. Don't bother.

This whimsical shower bug FM radio is the perfect complement to a groggy morning. Boasting a quartet of suction cups that attach to shower tiles, bathroom mirrors, and most other flat surfaces, the radio holds on tight while you sing along to a little morning music or catch up on the news. Both kids and adults will groove to the radio's buggy bod, which features an egg-shaped blue housing and four splayed legs. Meanwhile, your pocketbook will dig the bug's low price. And luckily, the clever design doesn't get in the way of the functionality, as the radio offers such features as FM auto tuning, which make it easy to find a favorite station, and a digital clock that keeps you running on schedule. Other bug colors include lime green, pink, purple, orange, and off white.

SanDisk 1 GB MP3 Player Silver Review

SanDisk 1 GB MP3 Player Silver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was considering buying an mp3 player, this would be the first one, and I did a lot of research. I was looking at the Sony HD1, the Creative 30gb Zen Xtra, the Iriver one, and this one. When I learned that the Creative player usually fell apart between one and two years, I decided against it. All of the Hard Drive based players that I looked at had internal batteries and therefore, after about a year, the battery life was shot and the player was useless. Therefore, I decided that I needed a replaceable battery player.
This small player 3" x 1.3" x 1" has all of the features I wanted, and is fairly easy to use. In my winXP computer, I could transfer mp3's into folders on the device and each folder acted as an album. There was no software to install. In the player, you can navigate to different folders, and then play those folders or indevidual songs in those folders.
Unlike the sony player, this player will play MP3's any way you have them on your PC, this means VBR mp3's too.
Also, unlike the Creative player, you can choose to have the player display information from the ID3 tags, or from the file name, so if your mp3s aren't set up well, its no problem.
The buttons are a littel confusing in the begining, but after 5min, I could use it perfectly. Also, it can be used left handed to right handed, the LCD rotates.
There are many play modes that you might want like Shuffle and Repeat. These are all easy to use. Overall, a very nice player. I would buy again. 1gb is enough space to switch files in and out, and since the battery wont die like a HD model, and the HD wont die either, I think it's the best choice.
Main good points:
-replacable battery
-VBR mp3's
-Shuffle and Repeat
-ID3 tag use, or path display
-No software to install
-can store any media on the drive like a flash drive
-easy to use
-Left or Right hand use
-Nice display

Sennheiser Remanufactured RS 110 OpenAire Supraural RF Wireless Headphones with Enhanced Bass Review

Sennheiser Remanufactured RS 110 OpenAire Supraural RF Wireless Headphones with Enhanced Bass
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, a note on buying these remanufactured (I'm not taking off a star since this is lumped with the NEW RS-110 reviews):
They say here 'remanufactured to like-new condition'--a bit of an overstatement...I can see noticable scratches on the phones and a fairly small chip of plastic is missing from the corner of the transmitter (but I'm pretty fussy and notice that stuff).
Still, condition is good and earpads look new (thank goodness). Comes with all accessories and panasonic AAA's. Still, for the savings (1/2 price) I can deal with some surface marks. I'm satisfied with my choice to buy remanufactured, but next time I might opt to buy new. If scratches will bother you, buy new.
Now about the phones:
Reviews that say they are plug and listen are true. I first had to find the battery compartment (well disguised behind one of the earpads)...just turn the pads sideways (eitherside) to reveal what's behind them.
The reception is good, note I'm using these in a residential neighborhood....when I get back to college I'll update. I walked outside and to opposite sides of my house and to the basement...still soundin' good. Once in a while I do get some static, but (for me) it isn't constant or common enough to make this an annoyance....living in a city area or apt might cause more interference (more wireless phones etc).
The sound: Nice base, not too heavy, just right. The sound is really crisp and clear. I use these to listen to my music (CDs and LPs) and DVD's wirelessly. They seem pretty comfortable despite size, the padding on the top and the earpads is very soft. They do look hilarious on me (according to my sister I look like I should be DJing). As with most wireless phones these are big cans, but they aren't ugly...just BIG. And since I'm wearing them mostly indoors, I'm not worried about the size.
Recommended for a good priced and good sounding wireless headphone.

Creative Zen Micro 6 GB MP3 Player Black Review

Creative Zen Micro 6 GB MP3 Player Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
NOTE: this review is for the 5gb player. I wrote this lengthy review for that model, and it didn't show up and I can't re-submit it now. DARN thing! All the specs should be the same though.
I've been behind the times using the same portable CD player for the last 6 or 7 years... so this was really a BIG step up for me. Hopefully this review will be helpful if you have never owned an mp3 player before....
I have no idea how this compares to the ipod, but here is a list of the lesser known features of the zen micro:
PROS
+++ It tells you the number of tracks, albums & playlists uploaded. Total Mb & Mb remaining.
+++ FM radio.
+++ Removable battery & micro hard disc.
+++ If you're halfway through a song (or paused) & you shut it down (or it shuts down after being inactive for a while, IT RESUMES WHERE IT LEFT OFF in the middle of a song when your turn it back on again!! :-)
+++ You can change the idle shutdown time, backlight time, contrast, touchpad sensitivity, language (there are 15 languages installed!!)
+++ sleep timer
+++ You can personalise (configure) menus, much like with mobile phones.
+++ PLAY MODES: normal, repeat track, repeat all, shuffle, shuffle repeat & track once.
+++ You can find songs by albums, artists, genre, playlist
+++ DJ menu: album of the day, random play all, most popular & rarely heard tracks.
+++ There are 10 bookmarks, which I have absolutely no idea how to use, but it must be put onto this list anyway. ;-)
+++ 12/24hr time, alarm, calendar, date (several date formats and you can even choose between the following separators: space, dot, dash, slash)
+++ Variable microphone sensitivity.
+++ Organiser; tasks + contact lists. (synchronised with creative sync manager)
+++ Smart volume + Equaliser (numerous modes: Off, custom, acoustic, classical, disco, jazz, new age, pop, rock, or vocal)
+++ master reset.:-0
+++ track name, title & artist on LCD display.+ battery indication, and various other on-screen icons while a song is playing, such as EQ & repeat modes.
+++ Gives the length of a song as a bar graph so you can tell the progress of the song...
+++ A lot of stuff in the box: remote control, belt clip & cradle, pouch, usb cable, charger, earphones, software (easy enough to figure out).....
+++ Last but not least: a cool blue glow + white backlit screen!!!
+++ There ISN'T a one second delay between playing each song.
+++ My zen micro hasn't crashed on me yet (and I have been sucessful in crashing every computer product known to man, eg: my Ericsson T39m phone several times!)
CONS:
--- The touch pad can be annoying sometimes. So you either have to hold it by the edges when playing a song or put it on hold mode, otherwise your palm will set off a whole bunch of menus.
It's okay when you're using it though.
--- You can't hear any music while fast-forwarding through a song. I am used to being able to go by ear while doing this, but you can't do that with this thing. Maybe a future firmware upgrade will fix this issue? Please??! Creative???!!
--- I walked all around sydney and couldn't find this in *ANY* shop. So I had to buy it online. All the photos of the zen on the 'net are front on.... and I didn't realise until I opened the box that the back & sides of the zen micro were coloured WHITE!!! ARRRRGHHHH! I hate white! Aaaahhh well, I suppose I'll get used to it soon enough.
--- I find the lowest volume setting isn't all that low. I can still hear songs well in a fairly quiet room during the daytime. At 3:00am I think this might be just a tad louder than I would have liked. [This is with panasonic earbuds though]
--- You have to first aportion (partition) the HDD to be used as an extrenal flash drive. Available sizes are: 128, 256, 512Mb, 1, 2Gb. You should be able to just use whatever is available. This isn't a big problem though.
--- Earbuds are too thick for my ears. Wearing them is like stuffing a peanut lengthwise in your ear. It pulls your earlobes out.
--- There is practically zero information (on how to use the menus) in the instruction manual.

Creative Zen Sleek 20 GB MP3 Player Review

Creative Zen Sleek 20 GB MP3 Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After much research I finally decided to purchase the Zen Sleek 20gb Mp3 Player and I'm quite happy with this unit. I also considered the Dell DJ, Zen Touch, and Zen Micro. I also thought about the iPod for a few seconds - but it doesn't take long to realize that beyond a pretty case, the Zen and DJ line just offer so much more, for less $$$!
As is the case with many folks shopping for a good mp3 player; I needed an Mp3 player that was compact, had above average battery life, at least 20gb of storage, and a few extra features to keep it interesting. But most important of all, it MUST have good audio quality (97db SNR)! Well, this Zen Sleek met all of my goals and more!
Here is what I found while doing some research this weekend both on-line and in the local stores. The Dell DJ, while cheap, simply didn't offer any of the features or battery life the Zen Sleek offered. The iPod had "average" battery life, no nifty features, too expensive, and isn't fully compatible with other music formats. The Zen Touch does have the best battery life ever - but it's way too bulky and the LCD isn't very bright. And with a max storage of 6gb, the Zen Micro just didn't have enough space for my needs. Otherwise, it would have been my 1st choice.
And just to sum everything up, here is a list of Pro's and Cons.
Pro's:
- Considering the storage, it's quite small and light
- 20gb of storage (I'm hoping for more in the future)
- 18 hrs of battery life (As expected, I got slightly less with 192kbps WMA's)
- 97db SNR for the best possible audio quality. I tested the audio quality with everything from a high-end car stereo to a top of the line home theater system. All sounded excellent. It even sounded rather good with a tape adapter!
- FM Radio (not needed, but very handy)
- Awesome and very easy to use touchpad feature as well as Creative's well known interface.
- And it looks great with the silver and white color scheme!
Con's:
- Slighty on the expensive side ($249.99 US)
- Not enough accessories at time of release
- Not a big fan of the velvet-like carrying pouch. Sorry, I just refuse to use that thing. :)
So, basically I can't find anything wrong with the unit itself. :) For this reason, I'll give it 5 out of 5 stars and consider this unit highly recommended.
