SendStation PDLO-USB PocketDock Line Out and USB for all iPods Review

If you could care less about how the music sounds coming out of your ipod, just so long as it drowns out the noise of the subway, then disregard this post ;) But the reason for getting the PocketDock is as simple as this - the data stream that provided by the docking port of the ipod sounds better to my ears than what comes out of the headphone port. The data coming off the ipod drive goes pretty much directly, unadulterated, out the docking port. Alternatively, The path from the hard drive to the headphone port has many more "twist and turns" before it comes out, poorly amplified, from the headphone port. By using this simple and inexpensive gizmo, you can get unadulterated access to the music on the ipod hard drive. It just sounds better to my ears. The only caveat is that you have to have a line level control device, i.e portable amplifier or sound attenuator (see other posts.) Any "music" coming out of the ipod docking port bypasses the volume control and as such can not be lowered or raised by using the ipod wheel. I personally have a little amp the size of a tin of mints that makes the music sound fantastic in comparison. A good pair of headphones, or sound isolation earphones completes the deal.
The PocketDock is also a cheaper alternative to something like the Jena Labs Cryo Dock which runs 10 to 20 time more expensive. The Jena sports a hard wire cable from the dock, and high quality cable at that. Does not sound a whole lot different IMHO.....
This little thing is an uncommonly inexpensive step onto the slippery slope of audiophile/gadget madness, but it sure is fun being slippery!

If you need an Otterbox for your iPhone 3G it is because you need to brave the elements and subject your phone to a rough and tumble lifestyle. Until now, Otterbox users had one choice if they wanted to use their phones in the myriad of available devices like iHome stereo docks etc....you either took the phone out of the case (Oh Hell No!) or you plunked down $30 for a dock extender and nailed it with a Dremel. I hate Dremeling new stuff, don't you? You would think Otterbox would jump into the R&D arena and get this squared away for their customers, but nooooo. I know many who have opted to not protect their phones because of this defficiency.
Along comes Henk van Ess. Aside from having just about the coolest name on the planet (every time I say it I get this picture of some dude flying a WW2 fighter plane with a silk scarf flapping behind him!)... he saw a need for the few who must have the Otterbox for their iPhones. Here is a guy who not only makes an unreal external auxiliary battery for the iPhones and takes it from a side job hobby to becoming an entrepreneurial success, he listens to the few who have a need for a very special cable and takes action.
The Dock extending cable he sells allows for full functionality of the iPhone 3G and 3GS with all docking devices. I can finally use my iHome alarm clock and wake up to the soothing sounds of Gunther and the Sunshine Girls sporting their Teeny Weeny String Bikinis.
The cable is very heavy gauge and the ends are factory perfect. A beefy female mates up to the auxiliary device and a darn close to off the shelf Apple male end slides perfectly into the iPhone. That is exactly what it does, perfectly and with no aftermarket alteration. The product costs less than the ones currently on the market and it arrives quickly as promised. I purchased it as a pre-order and got it two weeks later with a very anxious Mr. van Ess letting me know every detail of the cable and the transaction. It appears that making somethng that appears so simple is by no means an easy feat. He is very proud of his products and he has every right to be. They work
Otterbox owes Henk van Ess royalties and a spot on their catalogue because his dedication to people who had an unmet need finally have the best of both worlds...the full use of their iPhone and the protection of the toughest case on earth. 3Gjuice's cable is a must for those who own an Otterbox.

This 80 cm extension cable gives you room to maneuver if your iPhone or iPod doesn't fit one of the many accessories with 30 pins. Ideal for users of Otterbox cases. This cable is requested by customers of the iPhone battery "3GJUICE DeLuxe" because they don't want to remove their case. You can also use it as a dock extender cable to dock your iPhone or iPod. Or use it for any other 30 pins device that works with an iPhone or iPod. 3GJUICE's "THE CABLE" is made of strong 30 AWG wire which has an excellent transfer rate and is very reliable. Put the one end into your iPhone or iPod and the other end into the 30 pins device.New stock will arrive in April.

Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod Review

Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod

This product has been updated. Griffin has come out with the TuneFlex AUX 2 version. It is much better (see my review of it below)
TuneFlex AUX
-------------------
Plain and simple, don't bother with this product. It pales in comparison to the updated model. This model shifts around and isn't as clean looking as the new model. It also doesn't always charge my iPod Classic...which didn't charge properly for a lot of auto chargers (I tried about 5 different ones). Just skip this product and get the new version...it is worth the extra money. Read my review of the updated model below:TuneFlex AUX 2 Review:
-------------------
This is a good product, probably the best auto charging dock available (I've tried quite a few). I own an iPod Classic 80GB (and iPhone 3G) and it charges and plays them just fine. The product arm itself is strong and doesn't move a bit. The holding dock itself (comes with a variety of docks for all your iPods) allows you to rotate it. This does move. It's stiff at first, but once you break it in it will start twisting a bit on a large iPod. Nano's probably won't budge at all. It's not horrible, it probably rotates about 10 degrees in either direction when I take turns. It usually goes back though, so it isn't the end of the world.
I will say the holders themselves, while there are many to choose from, really don't have much support for the product. There is no backing to them at all (except one which doesn't appear to fit my iPod classic, iPhone, or nano). No worries though, the iPod still manages to stay in place without a problem (and they ride in a Pontiac G8).
Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. If it was solid as a rock, I would give it 5...but it's pretty close. Again, if you own a Nano, this thing probably won't budge at all. The iPod Classic will rotate a little, but not much. If you don't want it to move at all, I suggest getting a Belkin TuneDok (goes in a cup holder) or a vent clip model.
