Jensen JIMS-285 Wall Mountable Universal Docking Digital Music System for iPod (Black) Review

I love this player. I enjoy my cd's on it. Most of all I enjoy listening to my iPod on it. The sound is excellent. The door mechanism is genius. I had bought the more expensive Panasonic cd/iPod player and had to return it because the door was defective and it wouldn't play the iPod.
I'm really happy with this Jensen player.

Teac CD-X60i Ultra Thin Hi-Fi System with iPod Dock Review

Teac CD-X60i Ultra Thin Hi-Fi System with iPod Dock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the TEAC CD-X60i yesterday and have to say that I was very satisfied with it from the moment I popped on my iTouch and turned the unit on. I was looking for a small system that would not only play cd's or FM radio, but let me listen to the music on my iTouch while it's charging on the dock. This one does/has all that.
I have to say that the TEAC CD-X60i's low price of $134 at COSTCO didn't particularly get my expectations up but the unit was already plugged in, so I turned it on, and WOW. I was impressed. A nice crisp sound with good highs and lows and a deep, rich bass (from a separate sub-woofer) that didn't drown out the other audio details, even in noisy COSTCO.
The TEAC CD-X60i is made for iPods. It comes with a remote so you can operate the unit (and some basic iPod functions) from a reasonable distance, and the entire system is easy to set up and use.
I purchased a different system previously that covered the same elements as this unit but the sound was poor. I used to get a headache listening to it and I returned it post-haste.
This unit cannot be and should not be compared to larger systems - that would be like comparing apples to oranges. Unlike larger systems, the TEAC CD-X60i is a small unit at a much lower cost, is designed for desktop, book shelf, tabletop or night stand. But don't be fooled by any of that - its sound and its features are not small in way. I'd have given it 5 stars except that the sub-woofer must remain on for any of the radio pre-sets to stay in memory (the system is put into `sleep mode'). I'm the kind of person who likes to turn everything off when not in use, so I found this to be a little disappointing. Otherwise, great unit and $134 very well spent.

When teachers have to buy their own supplies and equipment due to the poor economy, we need good value and prices. This listening station is just the right thing for my classroom. It works well, the price was wonderful, and it came in such a short amount of time, I was able to begin using it right away. I have always had excellent results when ordering from Amazon, whether it be items for my classroom or personal items. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Amazon1

When I got this piece, there were no reviews at all, but still I wanted to buy it for its stylish looks. Frankly speaking, I didn't have much expectations on this prodcut interms of the sound quality, since its just 5W, but I was really surprised to see the sound it generates! Awesome sound quality - Too good for your bedroom. Obviously, you cannot compare it with a hometheatre system but for a iPod/iPhone dock, its way at the top. The FM radio, CD, AUX and USB ports are a big advantage and I was very pleased that it supports iPhone 3G and 3GS as well. I totally liked it and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

TEAC MC-DX32i Slim CD System Review

TEAC MC-DX32i Slim CD System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Received this stereo for Christmas and just set it up yesterday. So far I'm quite pleased with the system. One important note though should you buy this unit. The packaging sucks. BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN OPENING THE BOX. If you cut through the tape on the top flaps, as 90% of folks would, you could quite likely slash a gash right down the center of the remote. If TEAC had used an additional thin piece of cardboard on the top of the styrofoam or just placed the remote to one side of the center of the box it wouldn't have been a problem, but they didn't.
One other small thing, with such thin speakers that are easily mounted to a wall they should have designed them with the lower foot area being removable. The speakers are only about an inch thick but they are nearly three inches off the wall when mounted to account of the stand portion beneath the actual speaker.

RCA RS2664 5-Disc CD Changer Bookshelf Audio System Review

RCA RS2664 5-Disc CD Changer Bookshelf Audio System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this from Circuit City. It set up easily, and although I am no great judge of sound quality, it produces very good sound. It has an equalizer with presets, and a custom mode that you can configure to your own tastes. It seems to have more than ample power, plus the remote works well. So far, I have not encountered any problems. It has an AM/FM radio that does the job. I use the RS2664 mainly to play MP3 white noise for sleeping, which works well. I also created a few MP3 disks of about 125 songs each, and it plays flawlessly. However, with a USB port, the RS2664 can record directly from a CD to any USB MP3 player/recorder. From my perspective, the workmanship is just fine. All-in-all for under a hundred bucks, this is hard to beat.

Sony LBT-ZX66i iPod Ready Mini Shelf System Review

Sony LBT-ZX66i iPod Ready Mini Shelf System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been listening to my new Sony LBT-ZX66i for the past 3 hours. It does everything it claims to do and does it well. Unlike last year's equivalent model which had a (now obsolete) cassette deck, this year's model gives you a much more useful iPOD dock.(for most full-sized iPODs, such as my iPOD Classic, you can insert your iPOD directly into the LBT-ZX66i's dock. Some older or smaller iPOD's may require an adaptor)
The Sony features a 5-disc carousel-type CD changer, an iPOD dock & AM/FM radio, plus the ability to do Karaoke(there's two microphone inputs via quarter inch plug) and a headphone output which uses full sized quarter inch headphone plug.
This system is powerful and clean, and the "X-Groove" button will provide the outrageous thumping that your disco, rap, hip-hop & Dance music enthusiast craves. But here an important difference: unlike many similar systems from other manufacturers, when the thumping mode("X-Groove") is switched off, the LBT-ZX-66i can provide clear, natural sound, with crisp midrange and highs for those of us who prefer rock, pop, jazz and other types of music. Believe me: even without the added thumping, the LBT-ZX-66i is no slouch in the bass department. The 3-way speakers(with horn-loaded tweeters) are better than you would normally get in a system of this type.
There are number of effects modes optimized for various types of music(Rock,Pop, Salsa,Reggae,Dance,Jazz,Samba,Tango). "Rock" seems to yield the clearest and most natural sound. There's also a simulated surround mode(which I have yet to try), and a 3-band digital equalizer(you can create your own custom E.Q. settings in the unit's memory). I'll eventually experiment with these features. And if you have a turntable, there's a phono input. Programming the FM/AM tuner was easy and the reception and sound quality was fine.
My only complaint is this: the remote control is a bit too basic. There are too many features of the LBT-ZX66i which can't be controlled from the remote control. These features(including the effects modes) can only be selected from the main unit's front panel.
I normally wouldn't comment on the merchant here in a product review, but I'll say this:I've had a great experience buying from "J&R Music World" for the past 29 years, whether directly, or more recently through Amazon. After buying a Plasma T.V. from J&R(via Amazon) and seeing J&R drop the price $200 lower ten days later, I contacted J&R, who gave me a $200 store credit, which I used towards this Sony compact stereo system.
One other thing:this system is fairly large. It is not exactly a shelf system, but if you've got room for it, then go for it. You won't be disappointed. Not that many companies are making this sort of system anymore(JVC doesn't make systems of this size & power any more), but Sony can make this sort of system better. The manufacturing quality is excellent, and it's got enough features that can either be used or not used, so it can be tailored to produce good sound no matter what your musical tastes are.
AS AN UPDATE TO THE ABOVE:The effects modes CAN be selected on the remote control, via a button called "EQ".
Important additional note: if you are planning on playing CD-R's on this unit, I would advise you to try a few of your CD-R's on this unit before buying. While the LBT-ZX66i had no problem playing CD-R's that I recorded on my rack mount pro audio CD recorder or CD's that I recorded on my iMAC computer, I have hundreds of CD's that were recorded by my friend on several PC's that he's owned over the past 5 years. None of these discs can be played on the LBT-ZX66i(which cannot read the table of contents on these discs). The LBT-ZX66i is one of 14 pieces of equipment(and one of four Sony products) in my home which can play CD's, and the only one that can't play these PC-burned CD-R's. All of these CD-R's feature standard CD Audio.

Panasonic SC-HC20P-K Compact Stereo System
Average Reviews:

I was looking for an IPOD dock and found so much more in this little stereo system. I couldn't find any reviews on this but I own other Panasonic products and thought I'd give it a try and am glad I did. It has a recharging dock/player for an IPOD or IPhone, a CD player, a radio and a clock! Its sleek and good-lookin', small enough to fit on my dresser but has the power to send music throughout my second floor. I'm very picky when it comes to sound and was kind of worried that since I didn't spend over $100 that I wasn't going to be able to find something with great sound but this doesn't disappoint! Clear and crisp - I've heard layers of music on this that I don't hear from my bigger, much more expensive stereo system. This is a great little multi-tasker!

Sony CMT-LX20i 10W RMS Total Power Output Micro Hi-Fi Shelf System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was not certain of the value for money when I purchased the Sony CMT Hi Fi but from the reviews on Amazon I thought it was a safe purchase. I must say it more then met my expectations, the unit is compact but well designed and took up 1/3 less space than the unit it replaced (a "boombox" with two separate speakers) and weighed 2/3rds less. The sound quality is equal if not better and the iPod docking unit is seamless to use. I was impressed with the digital radio and the CD player is probably the least of the package but still works well. Overall I am very satisfied with the product.

Nakamichi SoundSpace 5 - Audio system - radio / 3xCD Review

Nakamichi SoundSpace 5 - Audio system - radio / 3xCD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I loved this system when I first bought it four years ago. Sleek, cool, and stylish; I bought it more for the way it looked than for the way it sounded (and it sounds great). It still looks great, now if it only PLAYED as well as it looks.
After four years it's almost unusable. I've already had to have it repaired twice because of poor soldering inside, and just about any CD I put into it skips. It's gotten so bad that I need to burn a new CD just about any time I want to play something. The shuffle feature is terrible -- it plays the same songs over and over again, which is pretty bad considering that even cheap boomboxes "remember" which songs they've already played and remove them from the playlist. The remote has lots and lots of tiny, tiny buttons, impossible to use or read in dim lighting.
Yeah, it's possible that I got a lemon, but getting it repaired was also an incredibly difficult chore. None of the 800 numbers listed in the manual worked, none of the e-mail addresses I tried worked, and even when I got a valid address, it took four e-mail messages and three angry phone calls before I finally got the address of an authorized repair center. The guy there told me that if I needed new parts I may as well buy a new system; if the parts arrived at all, they would be very exepensive.
I know that only used versions of this are available, and maybe it would be worth buying if you can get one for less than three hundred and have immaculately dust-free, brand-new CDs. I paid almost eight hundred in 2003, and I wish I had the money back.

Nakamichi's SoundSpace 5 is a 3-CD compact stereo designed for places where full-sized audio components just won't fit. The 3-piece system is small enough for the kitchen or bedroom and stylish enough for your library or office. Why settle for bad sound, cheap build quality, or ugly equipment? SoundSpace 5 was designed to deliver stereo reproduction to rival the concert-hall quality of full-sized Nakamichi components. Its 3 components, styled in contemporary brushed metal and acrylic, can be arranged in different ways: standing, tilted like easel frames, or even hung on the wall. Your choice of charcoal, blue, and green speaker grilles are included for coordination with any decor. The main unit houses a MusicBank 3-disc CD changer, an FM/AM tuner, and the system preamplifier and volume control. Operational buttons are arranged conveniently on the top panel, and a front window lets you witness the operation of the changer, which subtly illuminate in blue or amber (user selectable). The MusicBank changer needs no magazine and is as easy to load as a single-disc CD player. It permits fast, safe disc handling and never touches the disc's playing surface. This changer allows full control over playback functions, including all-disc memory play, random play, all repeat, and memory-repeat play. The speakers are unique in housing their own power amplifiers. Each uses a 3.9-inch midrange/bass driver and a 1-inch semi-dome tweeter. The power amplifiers are optimized for the speakers they drive, ensuring proper stereo "imaging" and wide dynamic range.Nakamichi's FM/AM tuner offers one-touch preset settings for 20 FM and 10 AM stations as well as convenient preset scan or seek tuning. A high-performance quartz-synthesis tuner provides stable, high-quality reception.SoundSpace 5 includes an optical digital output for feeding accurate, digital CD signals to a minidisc or a CD recorder. There are stereo analog RCA inputs and outputs for a cassette deck, as well as auxiliary inputs for a video source. The RCA-type subwoofer output permits connection of any optional subwoofer with a built-in low-pass filter. Plugging in headphones automatically mutes the speakers. For your convenience, the system comes with two separate remote controls. The primary remote engages all functions, including disc eject, while the secondary remote controls major functions and allows blind key operation. What's in the Box Main unit, 2 speakers, 3 sets of speaker grilles (charcoal, blue, and green), 2 remote controls, remote batteries, a 220-240V AC power adapter, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System (Black) Review

Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just picked this up and it's a very nice shelf system. It's not going to shake the walls at high volume, but if you were looking for that much power, you wouldn't be looking at a shelf system to begin with. The true test of quality sound comes at the lower end of the volume knob. Here is where this unit excels. No hissing or crackling noise and the bass is rich and pure and sounds dynamite. I played a burn job from mp3 files and I was stunned at just how good this unit really does sound! Mind you, this system does have a wee bit more power than comparable units, so you can crank the volume up loud enough for most people's tastes and there is no sound distortion at the high end, either. It's also pretty easy to mount on the wall, if so desired. It does come with a stand, which suffices well enough, if you don't feel like drilling into your walls. I only have one complaint and it's a minor one. While the speakers attach to the unit as seen in the pic, Philips should have also enabled you to be able to mount the speakers onto a wall, apart from the unit, to achieve a much better stereo sound. I have a speaker on the nightstand on each side of the bed and when I lie down to relax with some good tunes, it sounds simply fantastic. So, sound like a good deal? It is, and for a great price, too! Just make sure you have some extra speaker wire handy, as there's not that much attached to each speaker to begin with. Trust me on this. For the price being asked, in my opinion, sound byte for sound byte, this is one of the best shelf units out there. I listened to a lot of small systems in the up to and a little above the one hundred and fifty level and this system won hands down every time. A nice added bonus feature is that it was also the most eye appealing, too!

TEAC SR-L280i Hi-Fi Table with CD and Radio Review

TEAC SR-L280i Hi-Fi Table with CD and Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to use primarily as a clock/alarm clock for my bedroom, and have had to return it because it is useless in this capacity. When the radio is off, the clock lcd backlight turns off, meaning no display of the time. I have read the manual thoroughly, and yes, that is how it is supposed to work. No display of the time when the machine is off. WTF? Also, the machine MUST be off for the alarm to work, so thus you can't just keep the machine on all the time so you can see the time.
As a table radio it's pretty good. The sound is better than my old Sony, but not as good as my Boston Acoustics Duo-I Plus. It has decent bass for the size. The FM radio reception was good too. I love that it has CD, Ipod and USB, but the lack of a useful alarm clock means I packed it up and shipped it back :(
Note: I am waiting for the Yahama TSX-140 I ordered to arrive. It is much more expensive, but it has everything I need (CD, Ipod and Alarm Clock). Hopefully it will work out better than this TEAC.

TEAC MC-DX50i 2.1 Ch. Hi-Fi System & iPod Dock Review

TEAC MC-DX50i 2.1 Ch. Hi-Fi System and iPod Dock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my wife for Christmas because she wanted a radio in the house and we haven't had one for years. I decided on this model because I was also getting her an iPhone. I thought it would be a great way for her to have the radio and all of her music available in the same source, as well as a convenient way to ensure her iPhone stayed charged.
I was disappointed when we put the iPhone in the docking station and the screen indicated that this device was not compatible with the iPhone (apparently the iPhone has something different on its docking port than the other four iPods that I own and I get this message on all but one of my third-party chargers). However, I was relieved to see that after that message all the functions on the iPhone proceeded without any problem. The iPhone played through the system just as the other iPods and all were controllable from the controls on the TEAC remote or head unit. So, all worked fine except the TEAC does not charge the iPhone and that is the only difference from the iPods.
The TEAC works wonderfully and sounds great. I was impressed right away as I unpacked the item. If you have ever bought a product from Apple Computer, you are aware of the exemplary job they do in their packing. It puts other products to shame, but here it seems that TEAC must be using the same folks to design their packaging. The TEAC unit was packed neatly and efficiently. The inside lid had a large, clear diagram of how all the parts were packed. The parts were packed in a way that made doing inventory and set up as easy as could be.
The manual could have been a little easier to read. i found it a bit redundant, but i'm sure that some would appreciate that if they were only going to read specific sections and perhaps out of sequence. The sleek and well designed remote control fit comfortably in the hand and was impressively solid, made almost entirely of metal except for the touch sensitive surface.
I also had a little trouble picking up a couple of my favorite stations that I listen to in the car when I used the auto-scanning feature, but was able to pick them up tuning manually. At first I thought that the TEAC antenna was just weak since I didn't connect it to an FM antenna (a coax input is provided), but then I realized that the auto-scan actually picked up about 10 local stations that my car always missed no matter which part of town I was in. So, I guess the TEAC has very good sensitivity after all.
Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. This was my first TEAC product. My dad had a TEAC reel-to-reel back in the 70's, but that was my only exposure to the brand. I will definitely consider this brand in future electronics purchases.

Sharp 200 Watt iPod® Docking Station - Black/Silver (CDDH790N) Review

Sharp 200 Watt iPodandreg; Docking Station - Black/Silver (CDDH790N)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Sharp CD-DH899N has ok functionality but the speakers that come with it are terrible. They had high-end distortion even at low-moderate volume. This was the case with all the functions - CD, radio, tape, line-in and iPod. Thank goodness the speakers are not hard-wired in! I swapped them out with various other old speakers, and my best set was 15-year old Sony speakers with good speaker wire, which were 8 Ohm and had plenty of power handling. (The original speakers were 4 Ohm with thin wires.) That cleared up the distortion, although I have not tried cranking it yet. Why did Sharp design speakers that can't handle the signal??? The stereo itself works as advertised. Note that the cassette deck does not have a record function, only play. Also, there are no audio inputs to the stereo except a line-in. No audio outputs either, only the speakers. The CD tray is very flimsy, the tape deck is a little clunky, I kinda wish an extended warranty was available. I got this new on e-bay for a great prices, so it's an ok unit for a bedroom for the price, but do not buy this unless you have some good speakers to swap out!

I own 2 of these because the first one was so good. Besides being able to play anything well (CD, SACD, DVD), the amplifier section generates a clean, cool 23W into 4 ohms, enough to drive the included speakers to very high levels, the baby speakers are fantastically good, the microfibre woofer-midrange really works. Give the speakers 100 hours or more to break in, because they are light, you may want to weight them down. I listen only to classical music and I switched to these speakers from Epos 11's, for those who know, I cannot say more about the quality. Just listened to Water Lily Acoustics' SACD of Shostakovich 7 from St Petersburg. All I can say is "wow". But Boulez and Cleveland doing Debussy from 1992 on good old PCM sounds almost as good. Who would have thought Onkyo could produce such a great miniature.

Sony MHCEC98Pi Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Digital Media Port and 530-Watts RMS (Silver) Review

I did not purchase this from Amazon, but I wanted to write a review anyway. I have been looking everywhere for a stereo system that has clear sound, great bass, an iPod hookup and cd changer. If it had a cassette deck, that would be even better, but I could deal without one. I really liked the idea of an extra subwoofer. I wasn't going to purchase this system because it only has a 1 disc tray for cd's, but I figured that's where the iPod comes in for continuous music, and I should at least try it. Needless to say, I bought this stereo and hooked it up immediately (set up was a piece of cake).
I was immediately disappointed when the wires for my speakers were extremely short. Maybe only about 3 1/2 feet long. I like to spread out my system a little so I can get the best sound. Now, I'm not talking about placing speakers all around the room - they wouldn't even extend to the edges of my entertainment center.
The worst part of all, and the main reason why I am returning this system, is the sound is muffled. Even when I changed the preset EQ settings, the only one I was somewhat happy with was the "MP3 SURROUND"... but it still muffled my music. I could barely hear "s" sounds in the vocals... when I could, they sounded more like an "f". I should say, I am also very picky when it comes to electronics, but when I'm spending $200 + dollars, I think it's allowed! All I am asking for is crisp sound.
So, here are my pros to the system:
--Very nice looking stereo system
--DSGX feature really boosts the sound, along with the subwoofer
--LOVE the included iPod dock, which also charges
--7 different EQ settings for sound (my old stereo had 4)
--530 watts for loud sound
My cons, which severely outweigh the pros for me:
--Muffled sound. Vocals and music bits are not clear at ALL
--1 CD playing capability
--Wires and chords aren't long enough to spread out components to my liking
--Expensive for the things it is lacking
Hopefully this review will be helpful - I wish I had one that was this detailed when I was looking. Mind you, everyone has their own taste.
I would not recommend this system to anyone who is looking for crisp, clear sound. But if you like a nice strong bass and a lot of power... you may want to take a look.

Grace Digital GDI-IRMS300 Internet Micro Hi-Fi Stereo System Review

This is my third Grace Digital Radio, I keep adding them to more rooms in my house. The software user interface is a little cumbersome but the same in all models - a one time annoyance for setup.
The design of this version is great, looks classy and sturdy, and the sound quality is impeccable. The streaming of media from your PC works only with playlists from Windows Media Player, but it works well. Online radios stream well, it is probably one of the best products out there in the niche market of computer-less wifi radios. A must for expats who want to listen to their far away local station, with quality sound and without a PC.
