I love my iYiYi and want one now in black, too! My first Tivoli product was the simple Model One Table Radio, I got it two years ago and have been hooked ever since. I'm an audiophile & absolutely bask in the room-filling sound of this surprisingly small unit. Everyone likes nice bass and it satisfies my need for a bright high end as well. Love it, love it, love it!

For the many folks who have had issues with the IM414 not having an adapter for your 80gb Zune, I contacted Altec Lansing directly yesterday and was told that they do in fact now have this adapter and will ship it to you free of charge. I contacted the company at alteclansing@custhelp.com and they were very quick to reply with a solution. Knowing this, I've now decided to purchase the item because the reviews of the sound are great, and this adapter will resolve the only negative aspect I've seen about this product. Altec Lansing M402SR Moondance Glow Speaker System with Clock Radio, Snooze Remote, and iPod Dock (Black) Review

Altec Lansing M402SR Moondance Glow Speaker System with Clock Radio, Snooze Remote, and iPod Dock (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
All in all, this is a great unit. It combines ipod docking station, radio with digital tuner and clock radio all together. Before I bought this, the potentially negative things I wish I had known are the following:
- There are not a lot of buttons so it can be complicated to execute simple tasks. For example, to activate the alarm you have to scroll through all of the various alarm settings - there is no simple on/off button for the alarm.
- The remote control is really small. I worry that it will be lost or I'll fall asleep with it in bed and never find it in the sheets. It also takes a really tiny battery - kind of a large watch battery. It's too new for me to comment on whether the battery life is good.
- The remote snooze button is a really good feature if you don't want your docking station right next to your bed. Again, it has a small battery.
- It's kind of hard to read the time on the display - tougher than would be the case for a more traditional clock radio. And it's impossible if you (like me) have bought this unit because the remote snooze button allows you to keep the docking station in a more convenient place than beside the bed.
- There are only 4 radio presets and I think you can scroll through the presets only with the remote control (not the main unit).
- Sound quality is fine. Not as good as the Bose docking station but about what you would expect from a decent clock radio.
- There are only three volume settings for the alarm - low, medium and loud. I tried medium and it was quite loud so I've had to go with low. Fortunately, low is adquately loud, but you should know that there aren't a ton of volume choices to suit all tastes.
Although I really like having the features of this item, because of it is inconvenient to make on the fly changes to alarm settings and because of the difficulty reading the display I haven't got rid of my old clock radio (which I use just to read the time and if I want to set a one-off alarm).
Sorry for the long review, but this is the info I would have like to have known before making my purchase decision. I likely still would have picked this item, but with my eyes more open.

Altec Lansing inMotion MIX iMT800 Portable Digital Boom Box for iPhone and iPod Review

Altec Lansing inMotion MIX iMT800 Portable Digital Boom Box for iPhone and iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own the Altec Lansing T612 Digital Speaker for iPod and iPhone (Black) and I was very surprised at how much better the iMT800 sounds. I will admit that for the price difference you should be able to expect better sound...and you can. The iMT 800 sounds very good - about on the same level as a nice rack stereo system. The high notes are crisp and there is strong continuity all the way down to bass. While the bass is not overly deep (effective to 50-60Hz would be my guess) it is more than adequate - the iMT800 does not sound punchy at all - instead the entire frequency response range is nice and smooth. I was very impressed.
Other Features
- Comes with 5 different adapters to ensure that any model of iPod will work. In my video review I show an iPhone (2nd G), and iPod Touch (2nd G) and an older Video iPod and they all fit nicely onto the iPod Dock.
- As you would expect the iPod dock will charge your iPod.
- One very nice feature is that when the iMT800 is used with an iPhone it will automatically silence the music when you receive a call - in fact, the ring tone is played at full volume over the Boom Box speakers! (Shown in the video)
- Decent remote - it would be a bit nicer with digital display - but it probably isn't worth the extra $$$.
- While it is not rechargeable you can use the iMT800 with D batteries - which makes it perfect for taking to the beach, park, or wherever.
- Plenty of volume to fill large areas
- It comes equipped with a FM radio and the ability to program in four presets (I will admit that 4 presets is a bit meager).
- 2 auxiliary inputs - this means that you can plug anything that has a headphone jack into the iMT 800 - this includes iPod shuffles (as seen in the video), CD players, tape decks, computers, Squeezeboxs... you name it- if it has a headphone jack it can be played on the iMT800. In fact, up to three devices can be hooked in at once (And then you can toggle through the inputs)
- Not too heavy - about 13 pounds so it can moved without too much effort
Areas for improvement
- Not the most attractive looking speaker unit. Not a problem for me - but this may not look at home on a walnut bookcase (or any nicer looking decor). This unit is designed for indoor/outdoor functionality - style was left at the door (or at least partially).
-It would be nice if it was rechargeable - it would add cost, but it may be worth it... however, there is nothing that would prevent you from buying rechargeable batteries!
- The display - could be made larger... and a full color display would have been a nice upgrade.
Final verdict -
I know I listed several areas for improvement, but in truth they are very minor points. The biggest factor is that this is a great sounding speaker dock - and it sounds significantly better than the less expensive Altec Lansing T612 Digital Speaker for iPod and iPhone (Black) so if great sound is your requirement you can buy with confidence!
5 Stars

Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 Firewire-Charging Portable Audio System for iPod (Black) Review

Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 Firewire-Charging Portable Audio System for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Three Way Comparison, Bose SoundDock vs. Griffin Amplifi vs. Altec Lansing IM600:
Design and Features:
Bose Sound Dock: Cabinet made of plastic. Appears to have two 2.5" acoustic suspension (enclosed) drivers under a metallic grill, with a whole bunch of added physical structures that look to be waveguides and / or signal processors. Bose keeps details on this pretty much obscured, but wattage estimates I've seen on the net put power output at roughly 50-60 watts and based on my own comparative experience, I would agree. Some commentators think the unit has four drivers rather than two, but I see only two beneath the grill and I am not going to disassemble the unit. Some Bose haters on the net claim frequency response on the SD is capped at a mere 10,000 kHz, which I personally doubt, as treble rich music I've played on this sounds fine, and no reliable net source makes this claim. Ipod docks in a front-mounted bay. My 5.5 G 30 GB feels rather loosely supported, but no major issues.
No line-in or out. Indeed, no console controls at all except a volume up and volume down button. Simple remote, though very reliable and with good range. The power wart is bizarrely large and bulky, plus is also in two sections, making it seem like you're going to be powering up a railgun or supercollider rather than a relatively low powered music player. The design is sturdy and attractive overall, but the lack of any special features whatsoever is dismaying, perhaps symptomatic of Bose's condescending "electronics for idiots" philosophy. Charges Ipod as long as it is docked, when playing or when off.
Griffin Amplifi: Cabinet made of wood, looks like small shoebox. Has two 2.75" drivers front mounted and a bottom mounted 5" woofer with a bass port. Griffin in the worst Bose tradition refuses to disclose many tech statistics on their unit, but my power estimate puts this at about 30-40 watts, not really much different from the Bose. (To sound twice as loud needs a 10 times (1000%) increase in wattage, so the Bose advantage of maybe 33% more power should not really give much real world benefit.) Frequency response per mfgr is 50-16,000 kHz which seems a bit unbelievable on the low end, but feasible enough on the higher end. Ipod docks on top and sticks awkwardly out of the unit like a control tower, but fit is snugger than on Sound Dock which makes me feel more reassured.
There is a line-in and not much more. Big blue-lit knob controls on-off and volume. Remote is a copy of the Bose's with the same simple functions. Range and aiming tolerance is inferior to both the Bose and the Altec, but certainly adequate. Annoyingly, the Amplifi only charges an Ipod docked in it when the Amplifi is on; if the Ipod is docked and the Griffin is turned off, no charging. Either Griffin's engineers are idiots, or they decided to save a few pennies in the design.
Altec Lansing IM600: Smallest unit, with plastic cabinet and cool fold up dock that also has on / off switch. Has two 2" acoustic suspension drivers, and a separate subwoofer out line that I did not use. Also has video out and line-in ports, plus a decent FM tuner and telescoping antenna. Tons and tons of features in comparison to our other competitors. Plus unit has an internal rechargeable battery which lasts for roughly 7 hours, and an "SFX" stereo expander DSP switch. Altec is honest enough to give the power stats on the unit of 14 watts. Though this is less than either other dock, as stated above the actual volume difference is not reflected in the numbers. Frequency range is not specified, but it seems to go as high as either of the other competitors, with perhaps less bass extension. Front mounted dock that gently leans the Ipod against a reinforced acoustically neutralized spot on the unit so vibrations will not affect the Ipod during playback.
IM600 also has a beautiful backlit display which stays lit while the unit is plugged in to AC power. The Altec charges Ipods as long as there is an AC connection, whether or not the Altec is turned on. The IM600 does not charge Ipods when the dock is running on its own rechargeable battery. The remote is also IR like the others in the test, and is somewhere between the Bose and Griffin in terms of range and responsiveness. Remote lets you control SFX mode and access four radio presets. (Though if you lose the remote, you will have no preset control at all, so try not to do that.)
Sound:
Bose: Excellent deep bass, controlled and accurate, never boomy. Mid-range is emphasized, so guitars and vocals sound especially fine. Treble appears a bit less impressive, but trebly stuff like Vivaldi and Tallis sounds just fine. The Bose sounds better with rock and jazz than with classical, but not dramatically so. The Bose sounds equally good at both low and high end, and the unit can be played at max volume with no distortion, probably due to Bose's manipulation of the source signal. Nevertheless, the Bose sounds very good at all volumes and with virtually any type of music. The Bose can also fill up any small or medium room with sound, and can even be a decent sound system for a reasonably quiet large room. Stereo separation was the best of all three speakers, unimpressive when compared to a formal stereo with speakers a couple of yards apart, but certainly very much a feat from speakers separated from each other by less than a foot. Detail is excellent with many-layered music like works by Nine Inch Nails and Dead Can Dance being expertly and precisely performed.
I am no fan of Bose, finding the sound from their home theater systems to be artificial, inaccurate, compromised, pricey, and over-hyped. However, in the case of the SoundDock, with the goal of creating generally acceptable sound from lossy sources, Bose has executed the concept impeccably well. The music as played may not be dead-on accurate, but it is not noticeably deficient and sounds loud, detailed, and clear at any volume. Kind of like McDonald's fries, the SoundDock is by far the jewel in the rather uneven portfolio of Bose equipment. Even if you hate the idea of Bose, or have disliked their other audio products, the SoundDock may well amaze you.
Griffin: Bass is about as good as the SoundDock, maybe lower extension, but roughly the same precision and balance. Griffin is to be commended for not going crazy and letting the big 5" woofer run roughshod over the sound of the Amplifi. The big woofer does not make the Amplifi sound better than the Bose at the low end, but on the other hand it doesn't sound worse, and it is also much cheaper. Griffin was not aiming to beat the Bose here, but rather to equal it with a lower price and simpler design. Mid-range is another strong point here, and treble is also a bit lacking, like in the Bose, but not too much so. Classical pieces still sound very good on the Griffin.
Where the Amplifi does lose ground to Bose is in the fancy stuff. Stereo separation is non-existent, and detail is nowhere near as precise as on the Bose. This sounds like a big loud mono speaker. Low volumes especially lose a lot of fine subtlety, and distortion is heard at the very highest volumes (though to be fair, no one would really play this unit that loud, as it is probably 100 dB or more.) The acoustically tuned all wood cabinet adds little to the sound signature of the Amplif vis a vis the plastic cabinet of the Bose. The lack of stereo separation, detail, and full clarity throughout all volume ranges is where the added cost of the Bose is most evident and justifiable. Most users will like the Griffin though; it mimics the sound signature of the Bose convincingly, has a retro wood cabinet design, and has at least one important feature that the Bose lacks, a line-in, all of this at a street value of 1/3rd of what the Bose goes for. This will make the Amplif a great solution for most users, especially those on a budget. However, the added price of the Bose does create a noticeably superior sound in at least some aspects.
Altec Lansing: The IM600 takes a different path than its rivals, aiming for a more treble oriented sound, with adequate bass and very good mids. The IM600 sounds crisp and detailed, but lacks the low end punch of the Bose or Griffin. The 600 has a separate subwoofer out line and a 3" sub is available separately from Altec Lansing for $50. No idea how it sounds. This is the best of these three units for classical music reproduction, but most music sounds fine on it. Even bass heavy music is more than acceptable for most listeners; you just don't feel the low end as prominently as you do with the other two docks, but depending on your expectations, this may be just fine.
Stereo separation is not especially strong on the Altec, to be expected when the drivers are all of 7" apart. The SFX mode is helpful in this regard, and does give some stereo sound effect, and really does not hurt sound reproduction in any way, so I normally leave the effect on. Stereo is far more noticeable than the Griffin, but less pronounced than the Bose. (However, even the Bose offers far less stereo than one might get from properly placed PC satellite speakers, let alone a true home stereo system...) Clarity and detail on the IM600 is excellent, rivaling the Bose in many cases. Brass and drums sound a bit more real and crisp on the Bose, and this plus the better low end will give the nod to the SoundDock over the IM600 for most listeners, unless you listen to nothing but classical. The IM600 distorts a bit at maximum volume, but not terribly so. It sounds as good at low volumes as it does at normal (medium level) settings.
Value:
Bose: Normally listed at $300 and almost never discounted. The new "portable" SoundDock just came out as of this writing and sells for $400. If Bose can maintain this exceptionally high price for the newer model, SoundDock prices may stay at $300, but if the newer...Read more›

Altec Lansing T612 Digital Speaker for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

Altec Lansing T612 Digital Speaker for iPod and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The current price of 131 is a very good deal. I paid full price for this unit.
Since this does not have a clock or radio, my main purpose of buying this was to get a decent sound on an ipod player. Also, it had to work with 2G Ipod Touch or 3G phone (both charge and play--many unit will play but not charge these new Ipod models).
The choices are few. Some JBLs and Bose (System II), and Polk Audio. I do not know if the more expensive hifi brands work with 2G Touch; I just didn't want to spend 500-600 dollars for an ipod station.
This unit has much more power than the JBLs I tested. The Klipsh units (like IGroove) will not charge IPod touch 2G, although they have excellent sound.
So it came down to Bose SDII vs this unit, which is now less than half the price of the Bose SDII. They are both very good, but this AL unit can get louder with less distortion, and even at lower volumes separates sounds better. I tested both units, using multiple songs/music (classical solo and orchestra; rock; blues; jazz solos and band; folk; acapella like Take6, among others). I'm not sure what to say about people who say the sound is muddled--well, for some recordings this is true, but a modern folk acoustic album, for example, comes out very crisp and alive, or a violin solo, the sound couldn't be more alive. I think I did a fair comparison of these units, and believe the AL unit may be better, and certainly a much better value. The bass/treble control is also quite excellent.

Klipsch iGroove SXT Speaker System for iPhone and iPod (Black) Review

Klipsch iGroove SXT Speaker System for iPhone and iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This speaker set really sounds great. I am an audiophile who would usually go the extra $$ for the best sounding unit (i.e. the Bose Sound Docks or something comparable) but you can only spend so much on peripherals. FYI, I checked out the various dock options on Amazon.com. I've heard the JBL On-Stage at a friend's house and liked it, but I was concerned about all the feedback in the reviews about that unit's volume control issues. Speaker sound is all about personal preference and hearing those speakers in the environment where they will be played. I went with the Klipsch for 3 reasons - the company is known for making high-end tower speakers, the unit includes an "S" video jack for showing videos and podcasts on my TV and the reviews here and elsewhere were positive. I normally wouldn't buy speakers without hearing them first, but I relied on the reviews and the company's reputation - and besides, the pricing was good and I could always return the speakers if they didn't sound great in my house.
I received the unit and unpacked it in my bedroom, where it will ultimately be used. It was super-simple to setup - indeed the instruction manual is only 3-4 pages of large type. I put my iPod on the unit and fired it up. The sound that came forth was crisp, clean and impressive. Frankly, not to knock Bose, but the sound was about as good as the sound from my Bose Wave Radio which cost more than 3X what the Klipsch cost. The sound is excellent with lusty base, crisp treble and superb midrange. I have played a variety of music and have been continually impressed with the sound reproduction. Pop, Hip Hop, Classical, Jazz - you name it, this Klipsch really delivers. And it fills my moderate-sized bedroom with music without any trace or distortion and it sounds very natural. I haven't used the S-Video hook up to view videos yet, but I'm sure it will work well also. In my opinion, this is the best unit at the $150 price point - it will not disappoint!
Here are my overall pros and cons for the Klipsch:
Pros:
-> Attractive form factor and reasonably small foot print
-> Easy to set up
-> Sound quality is excellent - at all ends of the musical spectrum
-> Price is very reasonable
-> Fills the room with clear, crisp music at any volume level - sounds great on low or played loud
-> Has video connection for movies and podcasts - many other speaker sets don't have this feature
Cons:
-> The volume buttons on the unit itself don't have a smooth positive feel - they are stiff in their operation
-> A screen like that of the Altec Lansing would be nice so that you could see the volume level and other key operating statistics of the unit
Bottom Line: If you appreciate good sound reproduction, this is the unit for you!!! Take it home and try it - you can return it if you don't like the sound. But trust me, you'll love it!!!!

While many iPod speakers fall into the dime-a-dozen category, the iGroove SXT iPod Speaker System, with iPhone certification, definitely does not. In fact, this sleek, pint-sized powerhouse fits perfectly into any room, while making your playlists larger than life.

The original iGroove SXT, introduced in 2007, turned a lot of heads with its sleek style and performance prowess. This latest version takes that success to a whole new level, without costing a penny more. It sounds better than ever and accommodates all of the new iPod and iPhone models, even the iPhone 3G S.
Technology The iGroove SXT remains a true stereo sound system that employs dual long-throw 2.5-inch woofers in a ported enclosure and dual 3/4-inch horn-loaded tweeters. Klipsch is the only company in the iPod speaker category to utilize horn technology, a design that delivers lifelike sound as well as produces more output using less energy. The result? Huge stereo sound from a pint-sized package.
And unlike before, the iGroove SXT is now bi-amplified, which means each driver is individually amplified, a feature that virtually eliminates distortion and significantly improves sonic performance. Klipsch also re-tuned the bass ports on the sides of the system to remove any "port noise."
In addition, the amplifier is shielded from cell phone interference, so you can forget about unwanted noise when you've got an iPhone docked.
iPod/iPhone Compatibility The iGroove SXT charges any iPod with a 30-pin connector, while the shuffle and other digital devices connect via a rear auxiliary input. Klipsch added a 1000mA rapid charge circuit to the system, so you can quickly recharge your iPod, iPod touch or iPhone.
For video-enabled iPods and iPhones, an S-video output lets you watch videos on external monitors.
Finally, need an alarm clock? Combine your iPod's alarm clock feature with the iGroove SXT.

Altec Lansing iMT620 inMotion Classic Portable iPod Dock with Rechargeable Battery and FM Tuner Review

Altec Lansing iMT620 inMotion Classic Portable iPod Dock with Rechargeable Battery and FM Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When you have a product as strong as the Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 USB-Charging Portable Speaker System with FM Receiver for iPod (Black) you'll be forgiven, particularly in a niche market such as this, for leaving well enough alone and letting a good thing ride in the marketplace. Instead, Altec Lansing has clearly listened to those who bought the iM600, and re-engineered the product as the iMT620 addressing virtually all the concerns, while also raising the bar where there were few if any complaints.
Right out of the box, in contrast to the 600, the 620 is a sleeker unit. Gone is the high gloss black bezel that looked great but would forever show fingerprints around the buttons. While the 620 weighs in a scant 6 ounces heavier than the 600, it has a lower profile than its predecessor by nearly two inches. Portability is clearly one of the areas of improvement, as the 620 is now supported by its own full-width handle, a feature the 600 lacked, as it was supported on a hinge by the part of the device that served as the dock. Which is to say that when you plugged your iPod or iPhone into the 600, and sat it down on an uneven surface, the iPod could move and bump up against the front face of the 600. The dock in the 620 is set into a fixed recess, meaning once your iPod/iPhone is in place, it's secure. Another obvious change is the antenna -- the 620's extends nearly a foot higher and is of much sturdier construction, which translates (from my own experience) to much crisper, sharper, and clearer reception from local radio stations.
Much can be said about the audio quality, but subjectivity and a lack of a baseline make it difficult to be precise. As a starting point, I will say that the sound quality (given the small size of the device) is exceptional for both the 600 and the 620. That said, the 620 is audibly superior by a perceptible margin on a number of fronts. Deeper is the base, less tinny is the overall sound, more natural are the vocals. Again, however, it's important to note that these aren't slights towards the 600, but rather areas in which the 620 has improved upon what's already good in the previous model. You're not going to close your eyes and confuse the audio for something that would come out of a pair of Martin Logan speakers hooked up to a top-end tuner and amp; what you are going to get is sound quality that will very likely exceed your expectations based on the size of the unit. You just don't expect that depth and range of sound from such a small device. I set the 600 and the 620 side by side, and played different types of music through each in a direct comparison. Andrea Bocelli, Wu-Tang Clan, Nine Inch Nails, The Doors -- each (while offering very different 'needs' for play-back) performed well on the 600, but on the 620 sounded more 'natural,' for lack of a better word.
The remote, a feature largely ignored on my 600, may be one of the best improvements. No longer do you have to use the iPhone/iPod itself to find the song you want, the remote is complete with menu controls, and you can control the music storage device from a distance right on its own screen. Obviously this is a bigger deal for those devices (like the iPhone 3G/3Gs) that have larger screens, but it is highly convenient.
Depending on the volume, the internal lithium battery will hold a full charge for about 5 hours. While it will not charge your iPhone/iPod while running on batteries (this is simply a matter of voltage), you really wouldn't want it to anyway, as that would dramatically reduce the play life of the device off-power.
I have few complaints, and those that I do have are minor. First, there are little adapters that click into place on the port so that the slim body of an Apple iPod nano 8 GB Black (4th Generation) NEWEST MODEL (for example) will be as properly supported as a full-sized iPhone 3G/3Gs. Once that particular adapter clicks into place, it's not the easiest or quickest thing to remove. As my wife has a Nano, and I have a 3Gs, and we'll use each device in the 620 at different times, we're going to have to figure out the best way to handle that, one that doesn't involve prying it out with the tip of a knife. Perhaps we're just over-looking something obvious. Another wish is that you could pre-set radio stations, but that is the weakest of concerns, given how quick and easy I found it to hop back and forth between them.
Wrapping up, the iMT620 has greatly improved upon the iM600. Enough so, that for many it may well be worth the upgrade even if you already own the latter. For those interested in a docking/charging/external speaker/FM radio solution for the iPod/iPhone, I really don't know that you can do better at present. Light, attractive, convenient, feature-rich, outstanding depth and quality of sound given the size; it really is a nearly-ideal option, and one that I will be enthusiastically recommending to friends and family.

Altec Lansing M812 Octiv Air Wireless Speaker System with Dock for iPod (Black) Review

Altec Lansing M812 Octiv Air Wireless Speaker System with Dock for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When it comes to playing your iTunes music in a room away from the computer, products tend to take two main approaches. The first approach streams music from your computer to speakers of your choice. Apple Airport Express or the Sonos System are an example. The second approach involves docking iPods directly to an integrated set of speakers. The Octiv Air essentially takes the "dock" approach, but provides an aux port, so it also supports the "computer streaming" approach when paired with the above products. Thus, the Octiv Air operates in a very impressive, unique way!
Better yet, instead of the dock being physically attached to the speaker system, the dock is separate and wirelessly streams your iPod or "computer streamer"'s sound to the speaker, which can be placed elsewhere. For me, that feature makes the system brilliant!
My wife likes to listen to her iPod in the kitchen, but the problem with other iPod docking products is that our counter space is too valuable to fit a big speaker. Now, we can set the iPod in a small, out-of-the-way dock on the kitchen counter, but stream the music to the speaker, which sits elsewhere!
Another plus is that the wireless dock supports any sound output from your iPod. This means that in addition to the music on the iPod hard drive, you can also use the Octiv Air for Pandora internet radio and any other music supported by iPod Touch/iPhone applications!
As for the sound quality, it's excellent! It's much crisper than the docking products I've used in the past, and rivals any high-end docking system I've heard.
My only complaints are trivial. First, while the product description says the wall-mounting bracket is "optional", what it SHOULD say is that it's "sold separately". Second, while the system works with iPhone 3G, docking it will result in your iPhone giving you a message saying "this accessory is not designed to work with iPhone". You can just close the warning and everything will work as normal, but be prepared for the annoyance if you want to dock your phone.
All in all, I think Altec Lansing has thrown together a FANTASTIC product, that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend if you're in the market for a high-end iPod speaker system!

Altec Lansing iMT702 inMotion Max Speaker System for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

Altec Lansing iMT702 inMotion Max Speaker System for iPod and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've read a lot of reviews online for this product, and the biggest hangup seems to be with the ipod related features, overall looks, button sensitivity and so on. Very few actually focus on the sound quality, which for me is by far the most important factor in choosing a sound system. I've owned the IM600 and Logitec Pure-fi Anywhere speakers, and this system is light years ahead of those, and any other similiarly priced portable ipod speakers in overall sound quality. This system in on par with the Bose SoundDock II portable system and is quite a bit cheaper. The only drawback to the sound is that it isn't going to blow you out of the water with incredibly deep bass. That being said, I don't think there is a portable system out there yet capable of producing significant bass due to their smaller size. Bottomline, if sound is your driving factor in choosing a rechargeable ipod speaker system and you don't want to pay $350 for the Bose SoundDock portable, the InMotion Max should be your #1 choice.

Atlantis Multi-Media System & Video Output for iPod - SF-1001 Review

Atlantis Multi-Media System and Video Output for iPod - SF-1001
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have tried the Altec Lansing iM600 firewire charging AND usb docking station, only to find out that my ipod touch 2nd generation does not work properly in it. I was very bummed out, as I had already had to return 2 other ipod docking stations! I found out that the iPod touch 2nd gen. is pretty much too new of a product for most of the current docking stations out there. Very few will actually charge the iPod touch 2 gen, and neither will this model. BUT, this was not my reason for purchasing the Atlantis. The Altec Lansing sounded pretty great, but was much more money and did not work for my iPod. I bought this at Sam's club for $29, so I don't know why it is listed on here for $169......but WOW it is a great deal for the price. The remote control is great, it has pretty powerful sound for a small boombox. It does not have a rechargeable battery in it, but I will rarely take it with me anywhere. Here are the pros and cons:
PROS
1. GREAT VALUE!!
2. GREAT SOUND, NO CRACKLING, FOR A SMALL SPEAKER IT PUTS OUT SOME GOOD SOUND.
3. SOUND FILLS MY KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM.
4. REMOTE CONTROL IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND AND CONTROLS THE IPOD SONGS TOO
5. CAN PLUG IN USB OR SD CARD INTO PORT AND WILL PLAY MP3'S AS WELL
6. ALARM WILL TURN ON WITH IPOD AND SOUND STARTS GRADUALLY WHEN ALARM GOES OFF, SO YOU ARE NOT JOLTED OUT OF BED WITH A LOUD SOUND SUDDENLY
7. VOLUME WILL DEFINITELY GO REALLY LOW TO SILENT IF YOU WANT SO THAT YOU CAN FALL ASLEEP---ALSO HAS SLEEP MODE IF YOU LIKE TO FALL ASLEEP TO MUSIC SOFTLY
CONS
1. TAKES BATTERIES IF NOT PLUGGED IN. DOES NOT HAVE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY PACK
2. MAY NOT SOUND AS GOOD AS A BOSE OR HIGHER END MODEL, BUT DEFINITELY SOUNDS BETTER THAN THE IHOME CLOCK MODELS, AND AS GOOD AS MOST $150 MODELS.
3. IF YOU LIKE TO BLAST YOUR MUSIC, THIS MAY NOT HAVE THE GREAT SPEAKER QUALITY TO DO SO WITHOUT BLOWING THE SPEAKERS, BUT IF YOU LIKE TO LISTEN TO LOUD OR MODERATELY LOUD MUSIC THE SOUND QUALITY IS GREAT.
4. WILL NOT CHARGE IPOD TOUCH 2ND GEN ON THIS MODEL
I COULD PROBABLY LIST MANY MORE PROS!!! BEST $29 I SPENT

Cambridge Soundworks Radio I765 Blk with A/V Entertainment Review

Cambridge Soundworks Radio I765 Blk with A/V Entertainment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I compared various radio/CD/iPod dock products based on features, price and customer reviews and decided to try Cambridge Soundworks and compare to Bose Wave radio/CD. Originally, I looked at CD 745i, but they had special for i765 so decided to give it a try. I have put i765 next to new Bose Wave radio/CD and listened to various music, CDs and radio stations. Here is brief summary of winning device by category:
Features: CS i765 - has integrated iPod dock, can play DVDS, can adjust bass, treble, etc.
Sound: Bose Wave radio/CD - its sound is clearer, sounds closer to real performance, has less unwanted interference/resonance
CD: Bose - better sounds almost across the board - more natural and crisp sound across musical genres - jazz, pop, classical, perhaps for some hard rock fans, CS could sound better
Radio: Bose - better reception, out of the box and with antennas
iPod: CS i765 - iPod dock integrated and included.
In summary, both of these are solid performers, with Bose having better sound, but Cambridge Soundworks more features and almost half the price. I have not yet decided which one I will return.
I hope that CS improves the sound more and that Bose starts to offer integrated iPod dock at more competitive pricing - after all there are number of other players now in the market: Denon, Polk, Boston Acoustics, Onkyo, etc.

***** UPDATE: *****
It is July 2010. We bought this in April 2009. Yesterday all functionality stopped. The light shows up on the unit when it is plugged in, but it does not turn on. It will charge the iPods, but no longer plays music. The 1 year warranty has passed. I'd still recommend this product. My wife used it everyday. She carries it with her around the house. I would recommend getting the 2-year or 3-year extended warranty.
*****
I did the research on these a while back and was sure I was going to wait until I could get a Bose. After reading all of the reviews here, I decided to get this little guy.
We use it everyday. Actually, it is in use most of the day. We use it in the kitchen, in the living room when we're reading the paper, I took it with me when I was painting our old house we are about to sell and set it outside. The volume cranked great outside, and the battery lasts and lasts. Keeps my ipod topped up too.
The important thing for us is that the sound is good quality at low volumes (we have small children). And yes, it is perfect. Good crisp quality. The bass is not a subwoofer, but it is impressive how well it sounds coming out of such a tiny device.
Don't research any more products. If you need something that you can take with you just about anywhere and don't want to have to worry about plugging it in, and you want the sound to be great, and you want the device to look great - stop researching, stop stressing, just BUY THIS THING. You'll be glad you did.
We are.

Listen and charge your iPod at home, office, or dorm with this stereo speaker with iPod dock and FM tuner. Got another digital media player? There's a connecting port for listening as well! The Altec Lansing iM600 sound system offers stereo sound from dual 2-inch neodymium drivers optimized for high-frequency extension (better highs, in other words). It offers more power and output than any other system in its class and, what's more, it features another Altec Lansing engineering innovation called the Expanded Sound Stage technology: ESS makes the speakers sound further apart than they really are, giving the user a heightened stereo effect. The iM600 also features a stereo FM radio and can double as a clock radio when plugged in to an electrical outlet (AC adapter included). It includes rechargeable Li-ion batteries and a wireless remote. And it syncs and charges all dockable iPod models. This system is certainly better than the JBL onstage docking speaker system, however it also has its drawbacks.
Pros: very compact, user friendly, portable.
Cons: eats batteries, lacks a remote, sound quality is average.
If you can afford the Bose ipod base speaker, you'll love it. It's worth the extra cash. Sound is incredible. Comes with a remote the size of a credit card.
I have all three...the Altec Lansing is better than JBL, not as good as the Bose.

Logitech AudioStation iPod Speaker System Review

I got this to replace the iHome clock radio. It certainly sounds better than the iHome (but don't expect an audiophile experience), but although it has a clock, a radio, and a sleep function, it doesn't have an alarm function to wake you to music. Seems silly not to include an alarm in a unit like this. I don't know what Logictech was thinking. I haven't had any of the failures other people have reported here. It seems to be working fine after using every day for about 1 month.

Grace Digital GDI-IR2500 Wi-Fi Internet radio Featuring Pandora, NPR On-Demand, Sirius and iheartradio Review

Grace Digital GDI-IR2500 Wi-Fi Internet radio Featuring Pandora, NPR On-Demand, Sirius and iheartradio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first experience with an Internet radio, so I cannot compare it to anything else except regular radio and the Sirius radio that is in my car. I was around before TV, the technology today never ceases to amaze me. I just remember when I was a kid listening to Superman on a small radio by my bed---that was a good as radio was.
I had very little problem setting this with my wireless router, I have a secure network and it took me several attempts to get the WEP key entered correctly as I was using the entire key-phrase on my Actiontec PK5000. I since changed it to something more simple on the ISP website---instead of 25 characters I now have 8. That was the only hiccup!
The radio scanned for available Internet connections and found several then found and recognized mine. I am now getting radio! I was overwhelmed by the number of stations available. You can select the genre; sports, talk radio, news, music type etc. and then check out the stations that are available in that category (more than I would want to count). After you find a station that you like you can enter it into memory, so that you can instantly go to that station, there are ten presets available. It will display the song title and performer or artist. The display is easy to read, the brightness is adjustable and it displays the time when the unit is off. This will also function as an alarm clock. The remote control is rather small and very easy to use, very helpful if you listen to the radio while in bed.
I am still exploring stations to find the ones that I like the most, just too many to chose from. I will not be using Sirius as I get that on Directv, but it is available. Pandora and Live 365 are also available, I have not been there yet as I have spent most of my time exploring stations that are already available. I live in the Phoenix area and I find the local radio stations on the dial too. I'm having a lot of fun with this radio checking out all that is available----do I have too much time on my hands? I am retired and am finding this a great source of entertainment.
I would like to mention the sound. The speaker is adequate, certainly a lot better than what I listened to when I was a kid. It is ported through the back with the 5" speaker facing the front. I hooked up a pair of my wife's ear-buds---now I get the full stereo and a much richer and full sound. I intend to next attach it to our home sound system---I am just thinking that will be some kick-butt audio.
I would recommend this unit to anyone who really is into a music library and wants unlimited choices in radio and does not want to be concerned about reception problems.
Hope this will be some help to those who hesitate getting more involved in the Internet related field. It was really easy to set up and is providing much enjoyment--I have very limited computer/Internet experience compared to my grand-kids.

Kicker iK501 Digital Stereo System for iPhone and iPod (Black) Review

Kicker iK501 Digital Stereo System for iPhone and iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A friend of mine bought one of the high dollar BOSE iPod systems which I found very impressive, and which my wife became enamored with. I, however, was not inclined to spend $500+ on a boombox, refined or not.
The Kicker iK501 is actually a bit bigger than the BOSE, and sounds quite good. On the down side, it doesn't sound quite as refined as the BOSE, and if you want to use it outside, you don't have the rechargeable battery thing that the BOSE includes. The iKicker only works plugged in to the wall using its' "brick" in-line power supply. You don't get battery operation - or battery woes - with the iKicker. Both Bose and the Kicker sound very clear and have the "good-car-stereo-sound-in-a-box" thing down pat.
The iKicker has deeper and louder bass than the Bose. I haven't measured it, but my ear is pretty good from listening to high end stereos over the years, and I suspect that the Bose system is probably better EQed for smooth, flat frequency response and there is clearly some level dependent EQ going on that I suspect is tweaked to match the human ear at various volume levels. After all, that's how Bose made their bread-and-butter with the 901s 40 years ago: Dr. Bose's little speakers sounded fantastic with the equalizer before the power amp in the circuit turned on, and lame as all get out without the electronic equalization.
The Bose has no tone controls at all: the iKicker has Treble and Bass that you can adjust to taste and volume level to get a ***VERY*** good sound, which is fairly comparable to the Bose. Listening to acoustic music through either system is great. The iKicker sounds clear and not overly colored by the speakers, although I do think the Bose is a tad more "neutral" sounding, which may or may not be good depending on your taste. For Rock and Roll, I think the sound of the iKicker is actually a bit better than the Bose, and although I'm not into it, I'm sure the hip-hop crowd would think the Bose is lame by comparison for that genre. The iKicker has a passive radiator on the back driven by the woofers to augment the bass, and you can hear and feel it working. The midrange is clear and well-defined. Crisp highs make the high hat sound like it's in the room. And did I mention the iKicker can get LOUDER than the Bose? It can probably keep up with most house party crowds; I doubt the Bose could cut it.
I use a 4th generation iPod Nano with it, and the remote control works the Nano as best I can tell, although I haven't really spent the time to figure out the iPod OS in great detail. But it does all the basics if you are too lazy to get up off the couch. It has a blue display to help you make adjustments to volume, tone, balance... the usual suspects.
But the *really* big plus over the Bose is the PRICE, WAY less than half of the cheaper Bose, and less than a third of the good one. I think I got it for around $165, IIRC, which I thought was within reason for a **very** nice boombox that can keep up with the "big stereo" in most of my friends' living rooms. Of course you have to add the cost of the iPod to that, but you end up with a great-sounding jukebox you can move around without much hassle that will play *all* your music without the hassle of changing CDs, and with NO fragile, dangley cord attachments. The only dangley part of the iKicker is the power supply brick, which is pretty substantial and looks sturdy. No puny connectors or chords. The iPod plugs right in in the front just like the Bose system. Construction looks solid.
I don't think anyone could be all that unhappy with either system. But for my money - and I LIKE good sound systems - the iKicker makes more sense.
