iHome iP38 Portable Stereo Alarm Clock for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

iHome iP38 Portable Stereo Alarm Clock for iPod and iPhone (Black)

This portable stereo/clock provides great sound from my iPod. It is superior to the sound that I get from the iPod speaker system that I bought for my home last year. I spent approximately the same amount for my other system (a simple speaker and recharging dock with similar sized speakers). Of course, I should include the disclaimer that I'm no audiophile and simply enjoy listening to my iPod in the kitchen on occasion.
The set up was incredibly simple and there were various docking inserts included for whatever device you will use for music. The clock is somewhat small (approximately 1x4 inches) but nice and bright and easy to read.
The clock has an available beeping alarm or it can be set to wake with music.
There is the drawback to needing to add AA batteries in order for it to be truly portable (my husband and I both wondered why it was not rechargable in some manner) and I have not checked to see how long the batteries will power the device on their own. There is a button battery backup for the alarm (included) but if you were camping, or using this for any other means where you don't have a power source, this could be an issue. I personally would plan to use the AV adapter, but that does require that you carry it along wherever you go or just enjoy it only at home.
The size is not that of a mini "travel" clock (it's about 14x6x3 inches), and because you need to bring the chunky power cord along for long term use I don't know that it is ideal for frequent travelers unless they really want to enjoy their music from their iPod or iPhone while away and have lots of room in their suitcase. With batteries installed it won't be lightweight, either. It does fold flat and zip shut, but will not hold anything inside and has no "pocket" or storage area on the outside. If it had a way to stash the iPod and adapter, it would be clunkier but more efficient, in my opinion.
That said, I am going to thoroughly enjoy it plugged in wherever I'd like to listen to my iPod. It may even replace my aging alarm clock in my bedroom. When my husband and kids saw this arrive they were mildly interested in it, but once I plugged it in they began to fight over it. So, there may actually be a battle over who gets to use it the most often unless we get one for each of us.
Bottom line: It's good-looking, easy to use, sounds great and isn't a bad price for the obvious quality.

Logitech Portable Speaker S125i with Built-in iPod Dock Review

Ok, lets get something out of the way right off the bat: These are not big speakers. Say that to yourself before buying them. They can not compete with bigger speakers.
Now, that we have established that, My wife had been looking for something small that she could carry around the house to listen to her ipod. These are very convenient. While I would consider myself a little more of an audiophile then the average person, i have to say that these aren't bad for what they are. They aren't going to replace a bigger better choice, but they aren't meant to do that.
I like to plug my iphone in and listen to music while taking a shower. Even though these aren't officially iphone approved, they worked just fine. You get the little nag message about they aren't designed to work with the iphone (blah blah blah), just click no and then listen to your tunes. It even charged my phone while listening.
The bass buttun does add a little more punch. You can also put batteries in this to use it on the go. Since we haven't tried that I have no idea how long the batteries last nor if it charges you iphone/ipod while on batteries.
Finally, these are pretty inexpensive. So for the money they are a great option to get decent audio from your ipod.

Altec Lansing inMotion iM600 USB-Charging Portable Speaker System with FM Receiver for iPod (Black) Review

***** UPDATE: *****
It is July 2010. We bought this in April 2009. Yesterday all functionality stopped. The light shows up on the unit when it is plugged in, but it does not turn on. It will charge the iPods, but no longer plays music. The 1 year warranty has passed. I'd still recommend this product. My wife used it everyday. She carries it with her around the house. I would recommend getting the 2-year or 3-year extended warranty.
*****
I did the research on these a while back and was sure I was going to wait until I could get a Bose. After reading all of the reviews here, I decided to get this little guy.
We use it everyday. Actually, it is in use most of the day. We use it in the kitchen, in the living room when we're reading the paper, I took it with me when I was painting our old house we are about to sell and set it outside. The volume cranked great outside, and the battery lasts and lasts. Keeps my ipod topped up too.
The important thing for us is that the sound is good quality at low volumes (we have small children). And yes, it is perfect. Good crisp quality. The bass is not a subwoofer, but it is impressive how well it sounds coming out of such a tiny device.
Don't research any more products. If you need something that you can take with you just about anywhere and don't want to have to worry about plugging it in, and you want the sound to be great, and you want the device to look great - stop researching, stop stressing, just BUY THIS THING. You'll be glad you did.
We are.

Listen and charge your iPod at home, office, or dorm with this stereo speaker with iPod dock and FM tuner. Got another digital media player? There's a connecting port for listening as well! The Altec Lansing iM600 sound system offers stereo sound from dual 2-inch neodymium drivers optimized for high-frequency extension (better highs, in other words). It offers more power and output than any other system in its class and, what's more, it features another Altec Lansing engineering innovation called the Expanded Sound Stage technology: ESS makes the speakers sound further apart than they really are, giving the user a heightened stereo effect. The iM600 also features a stereo FM radio and can double as a clock radio when plugged in to an electrical outlet (AC adapter included). It includes rechargeable Li-ion batteries and a wireless remote. And it syncs and charges all dockable iPod models. Input jack - For second device connection, including CD, DVD, and MP3 players Weighs only 2.1 pounds (0.9 kg) For 4G iPods; Compatibility: iPod mini; iPod classic 3G, 4G, 5G, 5.5G, 6G; iPod nano 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G; iPod touch 1G, 2G; auxiliary input connects to any CD, DVD, or MP3 player using a stereo mini-plug
