Sony ICF-CD855VSIL TV/Weather/FM/AM 4 Band CD Clock Radio Review

Sony ICF-CD855VSIL TV/Weather/FM/AM 4 Band CD Clock Radio

Bought this for its sleek design, small footprint and CD capability. It was purchased for our babies room so that we could play CDs. We wanted something smaller and better looking than any of the boom boxes and not as expensive as the shelf systems at which we looked.
So your needs may differ if you plan to use this as an alarm clock.
We really like the size and sound quality for something this small. It is very easy to set up without even using the owners manual. The buttons are well placed and have a very solid feel. The unit has a very high quality feel to it as you would expect from Sony and considering the price.
All functions work as described so I won't spend a lot of time on them individually. Reception is excellent in FM mode, AM is a bit weaker. The TV and weather bands are very hit and miss as far as reception and was dissapointed that I could not get better reception from the preselectd weather frequencies as I live in a well populated area that is subject to severe weather.
CD works flawlessly but the size hinders the bass and mid-range a bit. But again, consideing the size of the unit I am more than happy with the sound quality. If sound quality is more important than size you may want to consider the Panasonic RC-CD350.
I have only four complaints about this unit... the wall wart power supply is huge, the LCD backlight is VERY bright, even on its lowest setting of three. This isn't too much of an issue for us as we will use it as a night light in our babies room. More frustrating is the fact that considering how bright the LCD backlight is it is difficult to read the LCD diplay. I couldn't use this if it were for my bedroom alarm clock. And the last is the lack of a battery back up. This is sort of silly in a unit that costs $80.
Bottom line is this is a high quality unit which has a few drawbacks that a unit of this price point shouldn't have.
Pros:
Sleek design (Only Panasonic was close on design)
Relativly small size (considering it plays CDs)
Good sound quality (Panasonic was better but bigger)
Solid feel (What you expect from Sony at this price)
Cons:
Huge wall wart transformer
VERY bright LCD backlight
Poor weather band reception
Difficult to read LCD
No battery back up

Audiovox CE609CR Thunder Clock Radio and Universal iPod and MP3 Player Docking Station Review

Audiovox CE609CR Thunder Clock Radio and Universal iPod and MP3 Player Docking Station
Average Reviews:

I just got off the phone with Audiovox customer service who say that this product has never been able to play anything more than an Ipod-- never had an RCA input jack, never had USB connection capability, and never had a memory card reader. If, as I did, you buy this product for any of its non-Ipod features, you will end up returning it. Someone from Amazon should read this and change the description!

Sony ICFC723 AM/FM Memory Clock Radio Review

Sony ICFC723 AM/FM Memory Clock Radio

This clock came out in Korea a little over a week ago. I bought it at my favorite Korean store to use in my bedroom. It(sony) is a great American brand I always try to find American things to put in my house. I got this one because i like Sony a lot. I have had a Sony clock beofer this and it lasted for many years. I just got it yesterday and i used it last night. Even though the shape seems a little wierd with the time being to the back of the clock it did not make a very big difference. I think I actually like it better the time being not right in your face, like most other clocks have their screen at the front of their machine. This is a wounderful clock my by one of the best American companies in the WHOLE WORLD.

The Sony ICF-C723's unique, high-tech design with function controls cleverly set in the base, stands apart from ordinary clock radios because it saves nightstand space, letting you place it almost anywhere. The synthesized tuner with PLL (Phase Locked Loop) provides the most accurate drift-free tuning of AM and FM radio stations. And the five random memory presets offer convenient one-button tuning of your choice of five favorite radio stations. A dual alarm permits you to set two separate wake-up times, especially useful for working couples. And the self-power back-up maintains clock and alarm settings in case of power failure. Leave yourself wake-up messages and personal reminders on the built-in IC chip to remind yourself of that day's business and other appointments. Message will be played at wake up time (before and after alarm) helping to ensure that your message has been noted.

Sony ICF-CD853V AM/FM/TV/Weather Clock Radio/CD Player Review

Sony ICF-CD853V AM/FM/TV/Weather Clock Radio/CD Player
Average Reviews:

Very nice clock. Although sound is a little thin (but what do you expect from a clock radio), it's very clean and detailed. CD transport works very well, plays all my CD-Rs and RWs without a hitch. Pros: Big display (easy to read), digital tuner, nice button layout, very easy to set the alarms, brightness control (although manual.) Cons: cannot set alarms separately for weekdays/weekends, no gentle wake, very brights not-dimmable LEDs that shine brigther that the LCD screen itself, need a longer FM antenna for better reception.
I'm returning it to get the next model in line (ICF-CD863V), which has automatic dimmer control, gentle wake, and slightly better sound.

Emerson iC2196 iPod Dock Alarm Clock Radio Review

Emerson iC2196 iPod Dock Alarm Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been looking around for a CD player/IPOD speaker combo for a long time now. Most others that I've seen were either too pricey, or too bulky, or had too many bells and whistles that I didn't care about, or had the IPOD speakers but no CD player, etc. I needed it to be compact so that it would fit into my home office space, but I also wanted good enough speakers so that I can fully enjoy the music.
I found this nifty little system and gave it a shot, and I've been very happy with it. It works well with my older version IPOD Nano (the system comes with several 'inserts' that you can sit on the IPOD base so that it holds your IPOD in place). As far as I know this should work with various versions and generations of the IPOD - Touch, Nano, etc. Again, I have a 3rd generation Nano and it works great.
The system itself is very easy to figure out. This is a CD player, clock, radio and IPOD speaker all in one. You just push 'power' and a button to select what you want to play - radio, cd player, Ipod. You can control your Ipod from the buttons on the system. The sound quality is pretty good - I am no expert, but I like what I hear. This system is also compact and can fit easily on a nightstand, small desk, kitchen corner, shelf unit, etc. It plugs into an electrical outlet but can also be used with batteries if desired.
Again, for $50, this was money well spent for me. I'm very pleased with this and highly recommend it.

Panasonic RC-CD500 Dual-Alarm CD Clock Radio Review

Panasonic RC-CD500 Dual-Alarm CD Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

For being such a small device, it really does give nice sound. In fact, I popped in some obscure CD that had a recording of birds twirping to test it out, and my cat came running in the room. It's lightweight and compact, so if fits nicely on the stand. The numbers are much easier to read than you would think, judging from the picture here. The screen gives you all sorts of information as to what you have programmed, so when you wake up at 3:00 in the morning, wondering if you have programmed your alarm so you don't miss your flight, it's very easy to see whether or not your alarm is on and how you will wake up. The tuner picked up a station 60 miles away, too. The only thing I wish it had is a graduwake feature. But that's about it. It's easy to use. I had it all set up in less than four minutes. The doze alarm lasts for six minutes, and it's easy to find due to the good design. No worries about hitting the wrong button and shutting off your alarm.

With 20-preset memory (10 AM and 10 FM), the RC-CD500 dual-alarm CD clock radio gives great sound as well as keeping good time. A MASH 1-bit digital converter and XBS extra-bass augment this clock's dual alarms and Sure-Alarm battery backup system.

RCA RP5600 SmartSnooze Dual Wake Digital AM/FM CD Clock Radio Review

RCA RP5600 SmartSnooze Dual Wake Digital AM/FM CD Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought this alarm, so I will be updating on it's functionality soon, but here are my initial thoughts:
FEATURES - This alarm has a decent amount of features for the price. One of the complaints I read in other reviews is that you cannot choose the CD track on the alarm function, it would just wake to the first track of the CD. This alarm allows you to set the track, wake to the radio, or to a buzzer. It also has two wake settings, adjustable "snooze/nap" time and gradual wake alarm (starts soft and increases over 30 seconds). It also has "sleep" mode which allows you to listen to the radio or CD with an automatic off so that you can still wake to the alarm in the morning. It has a back-up battery which allows it to run off the battery in the event of a power failure. The display has a bright (which is blue and clear enough to read from a distance) and dim (which is nice and muted and doesn't light the whole room). It was more compact in size than the Sony model that had similar features (and a bit cheaper too).
**Now one of the main complaints on this model is sound. I think people have an unrealistic idea of what a $25 cd alarm sound should sound like. For a cheap cd alarm radio, the sound is actually pretty good. The radio reception is good, and yes you can hear the CD spinning especially during track change, but let's face it... You are not spending the $100+ that great sound systems like BOSE cost. If you are looking for exceptional sound quality you are going to need to fork out the extra money to buy a higher end model. Even RCA makes a higher end model that I'm sure has improved quality of sound.**
My only wish on this alarm is that it have the smart-set technology which automatically sets your alarm after it has been unplugged or loses power. Other than that, this is a great alarm for the money!
