Sanyo DMP-692 Dual Dock Music System for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

Sanyo DMP-692 Dual Dock Music System for iPod and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this on Amazon last week. It is what I expected. Price has dropped $15 since I bought it. I also own an iLuv. This is a good bedside unit. I dock my Iphone every night and keep my Ipod docked always since I listen to music when I go to bed. For Cost/Size I am pleased with the performance. It packs a pretty good sound and has good features- especially a dimmer to lower the display illumination at night. It has a subwoofer located in the back of the unit. It also has a Dynamic Bass Booster (DBB) which enhances the sound. I wouldn't say it is superior to the iLuv. It is comparable; certainly cheaper. I am satisfied with it. It is a good bedside companion.

Boston Acoustics SOLO2W Solo II AM/FM Radio with Clock (Gloss White) Review

Boston Acoustics SOLO2W Solo II AM/FM Radio with Clock (Gloss White)
Average Reviews:

First, note that the SOLO2W is the same as the SOLO2B, except white (even though the picture looks different). So look at the reviews for the SOLO2B, too.
I think that this is a really fine clock radio. It has the two features that are important for me: 1) a standard, external FM antenna coax connection and 2) a good digital tuner. The sound is good, too.
As shipped, when you have the radio turned on, the radio station frequency (not the time) shows on the display. But you can change it by going to the "INFO" option, so that you see the time while the radio is on.
The display is bright and I cover it at night, but that is minor.

SONY ICF-C211-BLK AM/FM Clock Radio Review

SONY ICF-C211-BLK AM/FM Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had my Sony Clock Radio for quite a while now. It's durable (I've dropped it several times down several flights of stairs, but it's still here and working) and performs as advertised. One minor complaint though. The radio doesn't go very loud without distortion. But who would want to crank an alarm clock radio up anyways??? Overall, this is a great product.

iLuv iMM173 Alarm Clock and Dual Dock for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

iLuv iMM173 Alarm Clock and Dual Dock for iPod and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The features of this product are great...the problem is the clock constantly freezes and/or locks up. Twice the alarm did not go off because the clock had frozen. I returned the product for a replacement thinking maybe I got a dud. Well the replacement does the same thing. So I emailed the company to see what could be done. Three suggestions were given:
1. Make sure you are using the iPhone dock adapter (well duh)
2. Turn the power off before inserting the phone (well ok but not sure how this would help the clock freezing in the future...it wasn't freezing when I was putting the phone in).
3. Power cycle the clock to reset...(ok I do this EVERY time it freezes).
So bottom line works great to listen to music...but if you need a clock or an alarm (which is probably why you are looking at an ALARM CLOCK) then this is unreliable and completely useless...just like the company's support.

Timex T300B Digital Tuning Clock Radio with Nature Sounds Review

Timex T300B Digital Tuning Clock Radio with Nature Sounds
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am happy with this alarm clock. Period. It has some awesome features that I haven't seen on any other alarm clock. It also has some less useful features, but even if these were magically eliminated, you would still be left with a great clock.
UNIQUE and terrific features: 1. Sleep function: 90/60/30/15 min countdown at Normal/Low/Very Low volume. Here's the best part: the volume control on the side is over-ridden by the 3 sound levels. So if you want to fall asleep to low volume, the wake to radio alarm is at normal volume. (I don't know what Denys was talking about in previous review) Also, it can be a completely different station than the one you fell asleep to. 2. 3 alarms: radio or buzzer or nature or any combo. Easy to set a sort of progressive wake sequence: 1st alarm nature sound, then later radio, then last brain-splitting beeping. (see drawbacks below) 3. digital tuner. Try to find this feature in another clock for this price. Great reception. 12 FM presets (lots), plus 6 AM.
Other good features: decent sound from single speaker, three light levels from backlit display (though I would have preferred Indiglo), date on display, unlike others here I found it to be very easy to set all features "Buzzer" very much resembles the "beep" of a Timex watch, but much louder. The rhythm of the beeping increases every 10 sec or so. I'm a deep sleeper, and this works well.
DRAWBACKS (that would not keep me from buying this clock again, but why I gave it 4/5): 1. buttons a bit cheap feeling... whadya want for this price 2. clock/alarm set is forward only (bad), although you set hour/min separately (good). My last alarm clock had fast/slow, and you had to count around the clock to set something earlier - this drove me crazy. How hard could it have been to have up/down buttons? And there are already tuner up/down buttons there! 3. I was hoping (but not really expecting) that there was a bit more flexibility with the 3 alarms: ie. possible to set buzzer for all 3. Alas, the 3 alarms are one each of radio/buzzer/nature. 4. Nature sounds. All resemble white noise, as if recorded with a bad microphone. Not great for relaxing prior to sleep. However, surprisingly unobtrusive way to wake up in morning. 5. Backlit display on the lowest level is still a bit bright after your eyes have adjusted to dark.
Cheers Stink

Sangean RS-332 Powered Speaker for RS-330 Clock Radio Review

Sangean RS-332 Powered Speaker for RS-330 Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

I've owned the set of Proton radio and slave speaker. The sound is incredible. I have placed them in my bookshelf headboard where they are a perfect fit of form and function. All the controls are extremely workable and well-thought out. But even better is the fact that you can set it and forget it. I awaken to my favorite station, with the music ramping slowly up. I got to sleep using the sleep timer. Depending on which alarm you set, 1 or 2, the sound comes out of different speakers. Here in Texas we get lots of bad storms yet I've rarely had to reprogram my Proton; it holds the settings when the power's off. I highly recommend this unit.

Sony ICF-C773 Dream Machine AM/FM Clock Radio With Fifteen Station Presets Review

Sony ICF-C773 Dream Machine AM/FM Clock Radio With Fifteen Station Presets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When it comes to consumer electronics, I expect a certain amount of embellishment in the product portrayal, but with the ICF-C773, Sony has come precariously close to the realm of blatant false advertising. From the misleading description to the blatantly false picture, nothing about this clock delivers what it promises.
Based on the description, I *thought* that the clock would gradually ease me out of sleep, with a warm soothing light and soft music. The Amazon product description talks about a "calming effect" and adjustable illumination. Sounds nice, doesn't it? Instead, when this thing goes off it is like the apocalypse has finally arrived. The harsh, alien, LED lights will blink on and off, and if you combine that with the godawful alarm tones, you will find yourself leaping out of bed and looking for a weapon of some sort. Infuriatingly, you have NO control over this blinking feature, other than to turn off the light completely.
Right now, I bet you are thinking to yourself: "Well, at least it looks cool..." Alas, no. It seems that Sony could give Maxim magazine some tips on airbrushing. The clock looks NOTHING like the picture. The sides of this thing are pure, bright white, from top to bottom. But what really stung me is the LCD display. In Sony's artistic rendering, the display is pure black and the numbers are pure white. This grossly misleading picture caused me to assume that the clock would just light up the numbers, like older clock radios do. This method produces easy to read numbers during both day AND night while producing a minimal amount of extra light at night. In reality, the entire display glows blue-white and the numbers are a slightly lighter shade. During the day you can barely see the numbers and at night you can read a book by the light this thing puts out. Thankfully, Sony included a low setting for the screen, which is OK for night, but makes the clock completely unreadable during the day.
Then there are the buttons, buttons, buttons. This thing is covered with buttons, and in what I am sure is some fiendish attempt to drive me to insanity, the buttons you will use the most are located on the back of the unit, where you cannot see them. Prepare yourself for countless moments of frustration as you fumble around the back of this thing pressing buttons until you get the right one. And while doing so, be careful not to bump the analog (not digital!) wheels that control the radio volume and light brightness.
This clock is a huge disappointment, not just because of the reasons above, and not just because of the grossly inflated price, but because it teases you with cool features that just don't deliver. Avoid this clock at all costs.

Eton Sound 100 AM/FM Radio, White Review

Eton Sound 100 AM/FM Radio, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Sound 100 is the latest in Eton's product family. As a stand-alone radio this device is average. The model with the iPod dock is a cut above and more worth consideration for only $30 to $50 more.
Eton Sound 100 iPod Dock, White
Etón Sound 100 iPod Dock, Black
The speaker is monaural, but optimized to prevent distortion. At the highest volume the sound gets tinny but doesn't hiss. If you like modern design, the Eton is one of the best looking. It is sleek, COMPACT and light.
But there are shortcomings. The internal AM antenna is below average. You can use an external one, and most users will need to.
There are only 10 programmable station presets. The RDS broadcast data is only 8 characters at a time. The screen is hard to read; you have to be right in front of it. There are no external RCA, speaker or subwoofer jacks, only line out. There is no EQ, treble or bass control and no way to adjust the backlight.
Why only 10 presets? Why no speaker or subwoofer jacks? Why didn't they add Short Wave or HD capability?
If you only need an alarm clock radio, there are other options. This unit is above average on FM but below average on AM. Products by Sangean, BA and others have higher ratings at this price.
Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black
Sangean WR-3 AM/FM Digital Table Top Radio
Boston Acoustics Receptor Clock Radio (Platinum)
If you are VERY picky about sound and want a nice compact radio alarm clock, this unit will mostly appeal to Eton purists who prefer this design. Definitely compare before you buy. Enjoy!
Pros
+ Very nice iPod serial interface for optional Dock
+ Line-in and auxiliary jacks for MP3 players and other devices
+ Good speaker sound with surprising bass
+ Shielding protects the radio from interference
+ Battery backup possible for power outages
+ Nice alarm clock function
+ Nice looking design in a small and LIGHT form factor
Cons
- No equalizer; no treble or bass control
- Requires external antennae for good radio reception
- No RCA jacks or stereo connections for external speakers
- No Subwoofer connector - only standard stereo line out
- RDS only displays 8 characters at a time
- Backlight is not adjustable; you must be close to it to read it

RCA RC46 AM/FM Alarm Clock Radio with Large Blue LED Display (Black) Review

RCA RC46 AM/FM Alarm Clock Radio with Large Blue LED Display (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Trying to find a reliable, easy to use, inexpensive, alarm clock for the wife. She wanted one that sets itself and had a battery back-up. I wanted one that would wake her up. Found this one at K-mart and spent 30 mins playing with it over by the televisions (needed a power source). This radio alarm clock is perfect for what I need. This being my first review, I"ll just point out the things that made me buy it.
1. Nice soft blue color, 2 setting...low you can just make out and high is clearly visible
2. Battery back up (even came with batteries) easy to find AA"s
3. Plug in in and it sets itself (all you have to do is set the time zone) has a switch for Daylight Savings Time.
4. Dual alarm (his and her) or in this case days and midnights...set it and forget it. You don't have to remember to set it everyday.
5. If the power goes out the alarm goes into kind of a sleep mode. It beeps to warn you of the power failure and according to the instructions, remembers the alarm settings and goes off without it being plugged in (not tested yet)
6. The alarm starts off kinda like any other alarm but then gets progressively louder (can't see anyone sleeping through this one)
7. Playing with the tuner, looks like one of those old fashion, spin the dial things, but it shows a digital read on the display (kinda cool but it's a cheap radio folks and sounds like one)
8. The snooze is adjustable from 1 to 30 mins.
9. Last but not least, the alarm set time is displayed on the lower right, so if your the nervous type, you can double check to make sure the alarm is where you want it to be. All for around 20 bucks...and that"s all I have to say about that.....

The RC46 clock radio by RCA is the perfect companion in the morning. The AM/FM clock radio has a large 1.4-inch blue LED display that makes it easy to see and to read. The clock can be adjusted to two different levels of brightness to accommodate for different lighting situations. The clock features automatic time set that will set the clock to one of seven different time zones once clock is plugged in. Simply flip the switch to select your current time zone. LCD display has a digital frequency readout, so that you can precisely tune to your favorite radio station and read which station you are tuned in to. The programmable sleep feature will play the radio up to 2-hours before automatically turning off, allowing you to gently fall asleep to the radio. The RC46 features a 2nd display 'alarm reminder" showing the time you have set for the alarm to go off. No more second guessing if you set the time of the alarm correctly or not. The clock radio has two different alarm settings that are perfect for couples who wake at different times or for those who need a second reminder to wake in the morning. Set the alarm to wake you up to the buzzer or to your favorite radio station. Enjoy the Graduwake ramp up alarm system that gently wakes you from deep sleep by gradually increasing the volume of the alarm. You'll no longer have a loud, rude awakening in the morning. Alarm clock features programmable snooze that you can set to ring between 1-30 minutes or by the default setting of every 9-minutes. Using the SmartSnooze feature, any of the top buttons will act as the snooze button when alarm has been activated, to ensure that you will find it when you're half asleep. The battery backup gives reassurance that your alarm will sound even with the loss of power. The 'No Worry" battery backup keeps the clock radio working during power outages. You'll no longer have to worry about being late to work or needing to reset the clock and alarm.

This thing has pretty decent sound if you want to use it just as a small speaker system for your ipod, but it absolutely sucks as an alarm clock. The display is bright enough to read by (and there's no way to dim it), and the alarm is always on top volume, which is loud enough to wake the neighbors. Timex T311T Auto-Set Dual-Alarm Clock Radio (Titanium)
Average Reviews:

Finding a clock radio with battery back up and radio presets was a challenge. Most of them have analog radios, which means when I flip from the baseball game (am radio) to jazz (fm radio) I have to once again slowly turn the dial until I find the spot with the best reception. It is a joy to use presets.
Mine worked fine out of the box. Radio quality (sound) was good, suitable for a bedroom. Surprise, surprise, it came with the batteries (2 AAA) already installed for the battery back up.
Fine clock radio.

Like to snooze? Then you'll like the clock's large, easy-to-find snooze bar.The clock provides convenient 1-touch station tuning, with 18 auto-setting presets: 12 for FM and 6 for AM stations. Sangean RCR-22 AM/FM Atomic Clock Radio Review

Sangean RCR-22 AM/FM Atomic Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a high-quality alarm clock after about 12 years with an unimpressive Sony Dreammachine. This clock delivered on that front, and unlike most consumer electronics devices I've purchased in the past several years, it is clear that lots of thought was put into this device (and very little into the manual).
PROS:
There are tons of little nuances that the manual does not detail that I've discovered using the clock for a few weeks. For example the display can be dimmed with a dial on the bottom (which on my unit did not take effect until my alarm goes off the first time). The clock remains dimmed at your preset level, but goes to full brightness when the alarm goes off, making the clock easier to find. Combined with the pleasing blue light and the HWS (makes the alarm bell go from soft to loud) it's really nice to wake up to.
Another thoughtful touch is that alarm indicators only light within 24 hours of your alarm. Either alarm can be set to go off on particular days, with any combination of Su-Sa set for each alarm (i.e. alarm1 can be set for Monday, Thursday and Sunday, no weekday/weekend restrictions like some others). The alarm indicators however only light up when your alarm will ring the next morning. Very nice.
Other functions like the snooze, nap timers, etc. all work well. Like most alarms you need some time to figure out how it works, but after a few mornings most functions were intuitive.
The radio functions well, and pulls in way more stations than the Dreammachine. The speaker is fine, that is to say neither exceptionally good or exceptionally poor. If I want the ultimate music experience, I have an expensive stereo for that.
The clock is a true atomic time clock (not just a "preset" clock like many others). I don't know all the nuances of atomic cock synchronization, but the weather and location of the antenna seem to affect the two atomic clocks I have at home. Try moving the antenna towards the window if you have problems.
CONS
It is nicer than average plastic and construction, but still not going to win any design awards. I can't figure out why all alarm clock designs are frozen in 1992.
The manual was clearly written by a bunch of engineers. It is no nonsense, and explains how to set/use everything, but does not mention any of the usability features I noted above. For example if it's Monday and you set an alarm for thursday, You might wonder why the alarm indicators do not all light up. No mention at all in the manual. I thought the clock was broken since the dimmer did not function until the first time an alarm went off. Again, no mention in the manual of what turned out to be a very nice feature, and one I almost returned the clock for!
Another example is the unwieldly "Time Machine" antenna for the atomic clock. It is big and odd looking, but fits nicely to the back of the clock. Again, no mention in the manual save for a single line drawing.
When I initially plugged the clock in, all kinds of crytic numbers flashed on the display while it synced the time, again, no mention of what was happening or why in the manual. The manual does tell you how to DO everything, but does not explain WHY certain things work the way they do, or explain the various nice features someone clearly took time to think through.
Overal a great buy, especially for something you'll likely use every day for 5-15 years. I would like to see a better manual, autodimming of the display (it is BRIGHT when set to max), Sangean using a designer that is somewhat current, and perhaps a user manual rewrite, other than that, this clock works very well and will be on my nightstand for years to come.
I agonized over what to put on my nightstand (everything from Bose to Timex) and am very happy with my choice.

FM reception is good, sound is good (well, make that great for the price range), *very* easy and tactically pleasant to use (set alarm, etc.)
Boston Acoustics Horizon I-Duo Volume limit problem: Mine came with "hospitality mode" enabled, and volume would not go past 19. To fix: turn on unit, turn volume all the way down to 00, push and hold volume button for 10 seconds until beep then release, then turn volume all the way up to 50 (max) and push and release volume button.
After one email to Boston Acoustics support, I received a courteous response within 12 hours with instructions.

Sony ICFC723 AM/FM Memory Clock Radio Review

Sony ICFC723 AM/FM Memory Clock Radio

This clock came out in Korea a little over a week ago. I bought it at my favorite Korean store to use in my bedroom. It(sony) is a great American brand I always try to find American things to put in my house. I got this one because i like Sony a lot. I have had a Sony clock beofer this and it lasted for many years. I just got it yesterday and i used it last night. Even though the shape seems a little wierd with the time being to the back of the clock it did not make a very big difference. I think I actually like it better the time being not right in your face, like most other clocks have their screen at the front of their machine. This is a wounderful clock my by one of the best American companies in the WHOLE WORLD.

The Sony ICF-C723's unique, high-tech design with function controls cleverly set in the base, stands apart from ordinary clock radios because it saves nightstand space, letting you place it almost anywhere. The synthesized tuner with PLL (Phase Locked Loop) provides the most accurate drift-free tuning of AM and FM radio stations. And the five random memory presets offer convenient one-button tuning of your choice of five favorite radio stations. A dual alarm permits you to set two separate wake-up times, especially useful for working couples. And the self-power back-up maintains clock and alarm settings in case of power failure. Leave yourself wake-up messages and personal reminders on the built-in IC chip to remind yourself of that day's business and other appointments. Message will be played at wake up time (before and after alarm) helping to ensure that your message has been noted.

iLive iC308B Dual Alarm Projection Clock Radio with Nature Sounds and Dock for iPod (Black) Review

iLive iC308B Dual Alarm Projection Clock Radio with Nature Sounds and Dock for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

Really disappointing radio. Here are the problems I had with it:
1. Whenever you turn it on, the volume is always set at 20. This is really loud! I expected there to be some sort of 'volume memory'; when I set it at level 10, it should stay at level 10 when I turn it on the next time. It doesn't.
2. The nature sounds have a very clear "silent pause" when the sound loops. This is quite annoying to listen to a silent moment every 20 seconds when I'm trying to relax.
3. The digital time projection states in the manual that it is reversible. It isn't. When it's projected on the ceiling with the clock next to my bed, the projection is upside down. I should be able to reverse it, but I can't.
4. Customer service is virtually non-existent. The website only has .pdf versions of the instruction manual included with the item (which is woefully lacking). They do not have a toll-free support line, so be prepared to pay for a long-distance call. I called their customer service line to address my concerns, spent 40 minutes on hold, then was transferred to the voice mail of someone with a very thick Indian accent. Waste of time and money- thanks iLive!
I've returned this item. Don't make the same mistake I did by purchasing this POS!

Wake up and fall asleep to iPod, AM/FM radio, and four nature sounds. When you wake, iPod will be charged and ready to go. An LED projection system displays the time on a wall or ceiling, and a white noise generator provides extra peace and quiet by filtering out unwanted background noise.

Digital Tune AM/FM Radio Set presets with your favorite AM/FM stations.
iPod Docking Station The iC308B features a certified iPod Connector for docking your iPod. The recharge circuit charges your device while it's docked, and included are brackets for fitting the different iPod models. While it's docked, you can control your iPod from the iC308B control panel.
Digital Clock Wake to iPod, radio, buzzer, white noise, or nature sounds with the digital alarm clock/radio. Four nature sounds are included: bird singing, river, ocean, and summer night.
The dual alarm means you can set multiple wake times, and the standard snooze/sleep functions are included. If there's a power outage, battery backup will keep you on time.
LCD and Projection Display Check the time on the face of the iC308B using the blue backlit 0.8-inch segment LCD with dimmer control.
Even cooler is the red projection display, which enables you to display the time on your ceiling, wall, or wherever you see fit. The display has a 90 degree adjustment range.
Input/Output Have a more intimate listen with the stereo headphone jack, and use the auxiliary 3.5-mm line-in jack to connect auxiliary devices, such as MP3 or CD players.
