Philips GoGear Ariaz 8 GB MP3 Player (Silver) Review

Philips GoGear Ariaz 8 GB MP3 Player (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is actually a review of a GoGear Aria. This is my first MP3 player so all comparisons will be to other kinds of devices.
1) The radio reception is terrific: so much better than any of the other armband-type radios I've had that there's really no comparison.
2) Charges fast with 8 or more hours battery time.
3) Sound with the earbuds that come with it is kind of flat, but I never use earbuds anyway. Sound with my own (I'm currently using JVC hanger-style) is great.
4) Obviously, there's plenty of memory.
5) The "buttons" don't work well, or at all, if the player gets too cold or goes unused for any period of time. This is easily remedied by carrying it close to your skin. This is a fairly minor annoyance and the reason I gave it a 4 star rating.
6) Images on the screen are bright and clear.
7) There is a 4- minute voice recording feature which works quite well.
8) My desktop runs Windows 7, and the two seem to be pretty well synched - I have had no problems getting it going or downloading from my library. Transfers from Overdrive (audiobooks through my local library) is fast and easy.
9) It has no capacity for "bookmarking," although it will resume where you left off; there's no click wheel or any other way to fast forward other than to hold down the FF button, which can get pretty agravating if you need to get half way through a one-hour track which is common with many audiobooks.
Overall, I really like it, use it constantly, and am very satisfied with my purchase.

Apple Airport Express Stereo Connection Kit w/Monster Cables Review

Apple Airport Express Stereo Connection Kit w/Monster Cables
Average Reviews:

If you are completely helpless with audio, this may be an option. But using "Monster Cable" to play MP3s (or most consumer audio, for that matter) is a bad choice. Very few people could -measure- the advantages of "Monster" cable, let alone hear it.
Standard audio cables these days are plenty good enough for nearly everyone -- unless you're a top-of-the-line studio -- at 1/4 of the price. Gold plated -- if you want something that makes some sense -- helps avoid noise from corrosion.
(How do I know? 45 years of experience with electronics and audio, a couple licenses and a degree)

Starting and Operating Your Own Fm Radio Station: From License Application to Program Management Review

Starting and Operating Your Own Fm Radio Station: From License Application to Program Management

It is such a shame that this charming and useful book is out of print. Nothing has ever quite captured the challenges of rewards of community-style radio as this book by Peter Hunn.
When Hunn was struck by the idea of creating his own radio, he assumed there would be books to tell him how to go about it. As anyone in broadcasting will tell you, radio technology sometimes seems like the closely guarded arcana of engineers and corporations. So he wrote this book, a practical and entertaining narrative about building a low-power station, WHRC-FM, for about $40 000.

ON-AIR: The Guidebook to Starting A Career As A Radio Personality Review

ON-AIR: The Guidebook to Starting A Career As A Radio Personality

To keep this short and sweet, this 'book' does contain decent information. For the price however, you are basically getting 5 pages of text nicely formatted into a 50 page, double spaced booklet. I would recommend this to youths who know little to nothing about the radio industry, but teens and above can easily find this same information on the web.

Kodak Theatre HD Player Review

Kodak Theatre HD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have this product installed on a 50-inch LCD in my living room. We use it to access six accounts worth of iTunes and overall 6000 songs, about 10,000 pictures, and various home videos we've converted to digital. I love my Kodak player. We use it a lot at parties to play music from playlists (can import or create your own), and to show screen images from the photo collection. (I'd like to be able to email photos from here please Kodak as other parents want pictures as they come up!) The remote is a Wii-like remote that works on the TV, and it's great -- all TVs should have this remote. This would make a great gift for anyone with a digital storehouse of info they want to access on their TV. The only issues I had were that I could not mount a network drive (I store my content on a homeserver) and a minor issue that when reported they sent me a patch. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to access their content on the TV.
