I had this radio in our RV. In less than three years it broke. It's not worth the money. $200.00 plus it's not worth 10.00 bucks. I would suggest you not wasting you money on this JUNK. Replaced it with a portable battery powered radio that works fine.

Panasonic KX-TGA273S (Extra Handset) Review

I found this phone Clock/Radio base on Amazon after looking for just the phone. We now have four of these phones in the house and they are all connected to one Base-Station. The only issue is when the battery goes low it gives no warning but says it can not connect to Base Station. Give it a charge and it will connect again. Other than that these Panasonic phones are great and the little clock/radio base is very handy. Operating manuals can still be found On-Line and you can still get free help for the phones via Panasonic help Desk. Customer service Help for an Item that has been on the market for so long is rare and the Clock/Radio base is a rare find in itself. We didn't even know they made them. Remember this is only a charging base and is not the Base Station. I would recommend this series of phone from Panasonic New or Used.

Memorex Mi4390BLK Clock Radio for iPod Review

Memorex Mi4390BLK Clock Radio for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Ok, I bought this from a local store, but I wanted to review it here to hopefully help someone else.
I needed the following....
1. Ipod connection
2. Ability to turn all lights off on the clock
3. Ability to listen to the ipod to go to sleep (in this case, white noise) and then have it switch to the buzzer alarm.
4. I needed a radio.
This does all that, and looks really nice! I need my room as dark as possible, and so this was awesome for that. Also, I sleep with a white noise machine, but I wanted to get rid of it, and just have an alarm clock on my night stand for a clean look. I also wasn't a fan of the white noise that the machines made (i swear i heard voices in it). I was able to make my own on my computer and put it on my ipod as a playlist, so it plays all night. Then, when the buzzer alarm goes off, it shuts down the ipod and turns on the buzzer alarm.
Also, I can listen to the radio before going to bed, which is very nice.Keep in mind, this is not some booming ipod radio and the sound quality is so-so, but for what I need, it was either this, or some $75-$100 iHome...

Gradual Alarm For a kinder, gentler alarm, the volume on the Memorex iPod Alarm Clock can be set to increase gradually every five seconds, until the maximum volume is reached.

Simple, Intuitive Button Layout The Memorex Alarm Clock for iPod is quick to program with an intuitive button layout. It's as easy to navigate between iPod, FM radio, and buzzer modes as it is to hit "snooze" in the morning.

Cellular Communications Explained: From Basics to 3G Review

Cellular Communications Explained: From Basics to 3G
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

I was looking very much forward to this book. The subject is broad and a good overview book is really hard to write. I was especially interested in this book because it doesn't only cover GSM, but also looks at the CDMA technology and explains some of the differences. The 3G part is not just WCDMA (or UMTS) but also the CDMA2k. A book covering all these subjects could be thousands of pages, and Ian Poole did it in less than 200. Impressive.
It started good! The first four chapters cover the real basics of cellular communication. The authors finds a balance between the detail and the overview. I was impressed by the start... except for the writing style. The style was very 'engineering' and felt the book could use some additional editing. That would make it easier to read.
In chapter five (analogue systems), the speed increases a bit, but still relative easy to follow. Chapter six covers the GSM standard. Here, I felt the author was going way too fast and covers too much details. Any beginning reader would be lost by the short explanation of the radio channels and their acronyms. Additional pictures of how calls would be set-up would really improve the book, but they are not there. I've got a background in GSM and could still follow, if I wouldn't, I would be lost. And...
Chapter seven/eight covers NA TDMA and cdmaOne. The author continues with the amount of detail he used in the earlier chapter. Giving the names of all radio channels, frame formats, but doing it such a speed that its really hard to follow. The same was true for the CDMA2k and UMTS (WCDMA) chapter: too much detail, too little overview, too fast, too much 'engineering' writing.
I found chapter eleven (position location) interesting again, it went in a slower speed. The final chapter (12) covers conformance and IOT, but I couldn't understand why this chapter was included in this book. It seems to not fit there at all! It could better have been removed.
All in all, I find the idea of this book good, the start was good, but then the author was kind-of lost. I wasn't sure anymore whether the book was for beginners (chap 1-4) or for people who have more of a telecom background (chap 5-10).
Conclusion. I wouldn't recommend this book as an overview book to people new to the subject. Instead, better pick up one technology and read that (e.g. the excellent GSM Networks from Gunnar Heine). This book is a good overview of the different standards though, if you are looking for that, then this is an option. Good... but not great.

Among the many books published on 3G and cellular telecommunications, this introduction stands out due to its broad coverage of the subject and straightforward explanations of the principles and applications using a minimum of maths. Writing as an engineer for engineers, Ian Poole provides a systems-level view of the fundamentals that will enhance the understanding of engineers involved working in this fast-paced field. Equally, the book helps students, technicians and equipment manufacturers to gain a working knowledge of the applications and technologies involved in cellular communications equipment and networks. The book focuses on the latest 2G, 2.5G and 3G technologies, including GSM (with GPRS and EDGE), NA-TDMA, cdmaOne (IS-95), CDMA2000 and UMTS (W-CDMA), with material on developing areas such as HSDPA. The fundamentals of radio propagation, modulation and cellular basics are also covered in a way that will give readers a real grasp of how cellular communications systems and equipment work. * Explains the principles and applications of cellular communications systems using a minimum of mathematics, providing a firm grounding for engineers, technicians and students.* Covers current technologies (2G, 2.5G) alongside 3G and other cutting-edge technologies, making this essential reading, not crystal ball gazing!* Provides coverage of fundamentals and whole systems, as well as equipment provides a wide knowledge base for engineers and technicians working in different parts of the industry: handset designers, network planners, maintenance technicians, technical sales, etc.

FM Transmitter for Kindle 2 (Includes car power cable for Transmitter)

I wondered why this was priced so low and after trying it I can see why. You do get what you pay for in most cases. There were absolutely no instructions for this which I didn't think was a problem, it looked pretty straight-forward to me. I plugged it in to my car, tried adjusting the device to match an "empty" radio frequency and that was the first problem. There are only 4 choices and none of those seemed to be empty. I finally choose one and then plugged in my kindle (also tried my ipod and another mp3 player hoping it would work with something). All I got was static with a faint voice or song, depending on the device but after jiggling the plug a bit, finally had it working. I found I had to turn the radio way up for it to work well and everytime I rounded a corner or hit a bump, I lost the Kindle and the radio or static would blare out and deafen me.

I was also tricked into buying a worth-much-less refurbished item (not "bulk" so much as "used") by what I view as deceit - no mention of the second-rate refurbished quality in the item description.
'REFURB' is branded deeply in the back of the item - very classy.
When you want to return the tacky thing - Surprise, a minimum 10% restocking fee, sucker!
Do yourself a favor - buy a new item for a few bucks more and don't get cheated.
Amazon should be ashamed, I am very disappointed.

Iphone/Ipod Tower Speaker Review

Iphone/Ipod Tower Speaker
Average Reviews:

I purchased the Ilive docking tower after months of researching the perfect docking tower for the money. I wanted to purchase the Philips dc570 but, the item has been discontinued and few to none had it in stock. So I also gave a quick thought for the docking tower sold by brookstone. I actually heard the system and it had great sound, but the price was a little too expensive for me at the time. So I went ahead and bought the Ilive tower. I must say that I am pleasently surprised with the sound quality and the look of the tower. The device sits cozy in the corner and doesn't take up much space at all. It also didn't hurt that the tower was under 100.00 when I bought it.
I have to say that I do enjoy the Ilive docking tower and I would recommend this item to all.

Avionics Training: Systems, Installation, and Troubleshooting Review

Avionics Training: Systems, Installation, and Troubleshooting
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This book purports to cover avionic systems, Installation, and troubleshooting. The "systems" section does a good job of covering the systems it does cover, communications and some navigation systems, and that's about all it does do. It does not cover anything related to the fuel, power, airdata, flight control or other systems of an aircraft that are also part of the "avionic" systems. It is obvious that the author has never worked as an avionics technician and views the "systems" of an aircraft from the point of view of a small aircraft pilot. The Installation section was severely lacking and the one-page "troubleshooting" section was a complete waste of paper as it contained none of the methodolgy used to isolate system problems in today's complex corporate and commercial aircraft. The book should be renamed to more accurately portray what it actually covers; "Comm/Nav systems." The current title is misleading and I was very disappointed with this book, considering its purchase price.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Avionics Training: Systems, Installation, and Troubleshooting

"Avionics Training" is the first book to explain avionicsin simple terms, with over 400 illustrations in full color. It assumes no knowledge of electronics, uses no math, formulas or confusing abbreviations. The book explains the operation of 30 systems, how they relate to each other, how they're installed and troubleshooting techniques. This is a hands-on book that replaces theory with "hands-on" information. There are chapters on mounting instruments, preparing wires and connectors, running cables, installing antennas and other practical techniques. The booknot only covers conventional avionicsof the last 50 years, but the most recent technology, such as GPS, satellite communications, collision avoidance, the new transponders and electronic flight instruments (EFIS)."Avionics Training"was written because of new directions in the avionics industry. The demand today is for people with a "systems" understanding---which is required to find problems and replace faulty "black boxes." This is in contrast to people skilled in circuit theory who repair small components inside the box. The need for such skills is disappearing becausethe newcomputerized avionics must be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. The result is increasing demand for troubleshooting on the airplane while it's on the flightline, especially asmore electronics spread through almost every onboard system.Already adopted as a text by teaching institutions, this book is recommended for any type of aviationtechnician, pilots, newcomers entering the avionics field, and marketingand manufacturing personnel needing a broader knowledge of the avionics industry.

Emerson iC2196 CD Stereo Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Recharging Dock for iPod / iPhone Review

Emerson iC2196 CD Stereo Dual Alarm Clock Radio with Recharging Dock for iPod / iPhone
Average Reviews:

Emerson makes cheap junk and their iPod alarm clocks are no exception. If you need an alarm clock capable of waking you up at the right time in the morning, this is NOT the one you want.
I have to admit to being stupid enough to buying this model after another earlier more expensive Emerson iPod alarm clock failed to ring its alarm. The iC2196 also failed to ring the alarm less than a year after I purchased it. The buttons on these cheap alarm clocks also stop functioning within a few months.
There is no quality built into these products. It's alright if you just need something to charge and play your iPod out of cheap tiny speakers, but don't rely on these pieces of junk as alarm clocks.

Philips Fidelio DS1100 Speaker Dock with Clock for iPod/iPhone (White) Review

Philips Fidelio DS1100 Speaker Dock with Clock for iPod/iPhone (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Philips Fidelio DS1100 Speaker Dock with Clock is the latest addition to my collection of appreciated and often used iPod docks. Any room in my home that I spend a good amount of time in has one; kitchen, living room, bedroom and even bathroom.
My first impression of the Philips Fidelio DS1100 after unpacking was that they style was very nice. I like the curved edges on the speaker, the volume buttons flush with the top of the dock, the size is perfect for a table top or nightstand and both the dimming night light and clock display are great features.
The first time I docked my iPhone 3G, it notified me that there was an app that I could download to use with the docking system. Since it was Free I decided to get it, although now that I've had a chance to use it I may not keep it. I really didn't find any advantages to using it versus just playing music through my iPod feature.
Obviously the most important part is the sound and although it wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. I first turned it to a low/medium volume like I may have it to listen to when in the kitchen. I tried several styles of music and at this level the music sounded fine. Then I decided to up the volume to how I might have it on the patio during a BBQ. At this level there was significant distortion in the music quality, regardless of the style of music.
I originally considered giving this 3 Stars, but then I thought about Philips intended use for this dock. In a bedroom, bathroom or other small area this dock works just fine. You wouldn't expect to crank up the volume, so I can't see taking away an entire star because of that. If this has the features you are looking for and the style you want, then this may be the right dock for you. For me it is now happily residing in the the perfect place in my house; the guest bedroom.

While I've never reviewed books put out by the ARRL, and Jim Kearman-kr1s before, the only thing I can say is this, "It's About Time" this very excellent book was done justice. Like most "League" publications, it makes a very excellent book for a beginning ham, or a veteran of the tubes and wires, over fancy circuits. Whatever the case, I can say as a very proud ham, myself, that if you're on a budget, READ THIS BOOK FIRST! Not only will you enjoy reading this book, (it's plain fun) it will also give you ideas. Alpine iDA-X305 - Radio / digital player - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review will be pretty in depth, but will focus primarily on the important things. I'm going to start with the iPod/iPhone stuff first, since I would imagine this is a big reason why many people are looking into this deck.
I will preface this by saying I bought this because I needed a deck that could play music from my iPhone 3G.
*****
UPDATE: I can confirm that the iPhone/iPod 3.0 OS Software is compatible with this deck. In fact, it makes the experience a TINY bit easier because the iPod app no longer launches when you plug in your iPhone/iPod, which means you can be doing something on your phone and not worry about it getting exited when you plug the phone in. It still switches the source to iPod/iPhone, but at least the iPod application on the phone doesn't launch.
*****[iPod/iPhone/USB Stuff]
*******************
This deck supports an impressive amount iPods, iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G, Flash Drives, and most likely many other USB based players. It has a USB port in the back of the unit that screws in to avoid it coming unplugged during normal road bumps, etc. The USB cable they provide you with is nice and long. In my case, it would run almost all the way to the back of my SUV (Buick Rendezvous). It comes with a special iPod/iPhone connector that will charge the iPhone while you play music. Using a normal iPhone cable does not work, the deck gives you an error and throws a fit.
The iPod/iPhone functionality is very solid. It offers most all the sorting types of the iPod (Album, Artist, Song, Playlist) and even will show album art. Though the album art shows up fine when it is smaller, changing the view type to the album art only screen results in blurry/pixelated art work. I was slightly disappointed that there is no "Genius" functionality here, but that feature is pretty new, even to the iPod.
You can advance songs, go back a song, pause, and turn on song or album shuffle on the deck itself.
I personally find it difficult to use the deck to scroll through music, because of how unresponsive the knob is. Turning the knob is very similiar to setting your 10 speed bike to the highest speed. Even though you are pedaling REALLY fast, the tires are moving at a slower pace than if it were at a low speed. If you turn the dial really fast, it only advances 2, 3, maybe 4 spaces on the screen. This makes it hard to scroll through lots of artists, albums, or songs.
Additionally, plugging the iPhone or iPod touch into the stereo cuts off your use of the iPod application, so controlling the song play through your iPod (which I would prefer) is not possible.
Here is the bad part: it is very inconsistent and stubborn when it comes to recognizing my iPhone. If I have the iPod application up and running, then I plug it into the stereo, it will either give me an error on the deck, or tell me the device was not made for the iPhone. This means I have to close the iPod application, then plug it in to the stereo. This wouldn't be so bad, but it also seems to react differently based on whether or not a song is playing, paused, or no activity whatsoever. If I am playing a song when I plug it in, all sorts of crazy stuff happens and I end up having to unplug and replug and then pause and then quit out of the iPod app, and unplug again, then replug before it will work.
Again, wouldn't be so bad, but I find myself spending alot of time just trying to get a song playing instead of just plugging it in and driving.
Also, there is no option to not automatically switch to the iPod source when I plug in the phone. This sucks because if I just want to charge my phone, it will automatically switch the radio to the iPod source, forcing me to push source again to get back. This wouldn't be so bad, but I sometimes listen to Pandora Radio Application through my stereo, and if I am listening to it on my headphones while walking to my vehicle, plugging it into the stereo causes the application to quit, effectively cutting off my music, forcing me to relaunch Pandora and wait for it to buffer my song again. (This may be a personal problem, but it is relevant). It would be nice to turn off Auto Switch as far as the source goes.
Other than no Genius support, not being able to control from the iPhone/iPod itself, and the auto source switch, the iPhone/iPod functionality works well. I just wish I could get in my truck, turn it on, plug in my phone and leave. Instead, getting a song going is a chore. I end up sitting in my truck fidgeting with the deck instead of getting on the road.
[General Use]
***********
You WILL need to read the manual (comes on a CD in the box) in order to figure out some of the functions of this stereo. Though some of it is pretty straight forward, other functions are hidden, or are a string of button presses and knob turns to get to. They managed to make even simple tasks like setting a station preset slightly difficult.
I found it strange this unit does not support RDS, so you will miss out on the useful information that radio stations have to offer in the way of song artist and title, etc..
The clean face plate comes at the price of having to use menus to get to everything, but I expected as much, and boy are there alot of menus.
Two of the front buttons are dedicated to functions that are not even built into the deck itself, so this is kind of frustrating, especially since these addons will cost you upwards of $150 each. It seems like something better could have been put in those 2 slots (but maybe it's just me who may not be buying both addons).
All the buttons and knobs are easy to use and control, though I wish the knob itself was a little bit "stiffer." Turning the knob has inconsistent functionality. Turning it very slowly ensures you advanced to the next item in a list with every tick (clicks are very close to each other), and turning it very quickly has mixed results (sometimes it will advance you only 1 list item, sometimes a few more). Whatever the case, it is cumbersome to scroll through long lists, even with the inclusion of the "percentage" scrolling type set on, which lets you advance to a specific percentage in your music list, etc. This is kind of useless, since I don't memorize, or care to memorize what percent Metallica or any other artist is at...
Additionally, the ring of the knob can be pressed in and turned a quarter of the way to the right or left. This functionality has different uses depending on what menu, feature, or functionality you are using from the stereo.
All buttons are easy to press and sturdy. The face plate itself is very light (a good thing in my opinion) and only the button portion comes off, the LCD stays attached to the unit, making it easier to carry, but the screen itself may still be enough to tempt somebody. The back button is pretty useful and works well, especially when you are new to this unit, because you WILL venture into the wrong menu several times.
You can change the color of the interface from Blue to Red, as well as change the background using the ones built into the unit, or via a flash drive by downloading wallpapers from Alpine's media website.
[Sound]
*******
The deck sounds great. I can crank it up pretty loud (with lotsa room to go higher) and everything still sounds crisp and clear. There is a ton of room for turning volume up and down on this unit, so you will be able to find the volume level that is JUST right all the time. Has separate controls for subwoofer volume and all the fun equalizer stuff you could want (gotta look in the manual for how to do it).
[Expandability]
************
This thing can do pretty much anything you need, but it will cost you big money. It is ready to accept HD Radio, Sirius Satellite, Bluetooth Connectivity, and even an Imprint Sound Processor... but each accessory will cost you $150 plus. It is great they have support for these things, but they are expensive and probably could have been included in the stereo itself, especially when you consider the price tag this baby has. I knew it didn't come with these things when I bought it, but still, when they dedicated 2 of the very few buttons on the face plate to items that are not available in the unit by default, it is kind of frustrating.
There is no CD player built into this unit.
[Final Word]
**********
This is a great unit and has much to offer in the end of owning something fresh and great looking. It definitely stands out and has a nice LCD screen that is put to pretty good use. I wish you could adjust the size of the text on screen, as I like to have more words on screen over having it be more readable.
I hope there is a firmware update to add in genius functionality for the iPod/iPhone and fix the difficulties that can occur with plugging the phone in and getting it to be recognized.
I would definitely suggest this unit to anybody looking for a good deck that supports iPhone/iPod and is looking for ease of use and nice LCD screen space and use. Although it can be a difficult adjustment changing songs with the deck itself, it is stille very likely the best implementation of iPod/iPhone use in a deck to date. Hopefully we will see a firmware update that lets you control the unit from the phone.
If you are looking for expandability, then this is also your unit. You can do pretty much anything you feel if you are willing to pay the price for the addons. It has a nice lengthy USB and all the connections you need for your iPhone or iPod.
