[Updated information follows]
Now that I have owned this for 2 months and used it a lot, I would like to update my review. They say that if you invent a better mouse trap, the world will beat a path to your door. I hope that Mountek has as good a door as they have a mount! Even with a couple of small quibbles, this is still the best engineered solution I have come across. I use the word "engineered" instead of "designed" or something else, because it is apparent that this is the work of a talented engineering-type who has a good grasp of how items are used in the real world and the importance of build quality as well as fit and finish.
What are the quibbles? Well, as someone else mentioned, the screw which tightens the mount in the slot is a little noticeable. It is also the only piece of this device which was not perfect in fit and finish. Mine has a tiny little burr sticking out that digs into my finger when I tighten it. Not a big deal, but this device is so close to perfect any tiny thing like this which detracts from that sticks out.
Second, I have a HTC/T-Mobile myTouch 4G. The micro USB for the charger is just in the wrong place for this design and is blocked by the arms. I have to either reverse it in the holder (which then causes the headphone/aux jack to be blocked) or remove the bottom stop. I, personally, do not like to remove that because it is not as solid that way. Plus, if I do remove it, I still have to slide the phone down far enough that the clamps hit the volume buttons and can cause some problems occasionally.
Third, my preference would be to have a wider spread of the holder brackets so the phone could be grabbed at the top and bottom and I'd have the use of the side controls. Something would then have to be done about the headphone jack on the top of my phone. Maybe a different kind of bottom bracket with part of the sides cut out?
Even with these nitpicks, this is still so far and away a better product than anything else I have seen or tested that it still gets all 5 stars from me. Not much product out there that I'll say that about.
Bottom line: You should skip the rest and buy this one. You're going to end up throwing the others away anyway and getting this, eventually. So, why not just start at the top and be done with it? Plus, at $19.95, it is a real bargain that will last a long time. -- 03/13/11
[Original review follows]
I will try to be as concise as possible, as I plan to do a longer, more in-depth review on my website soon.
I have been looking for something to mount my smartphone in the car for a couple of months now. I tried models by Bracketron and Scosche, as well as some less-known brands.
Simply put, for most people's needs, this product not only does the job better, but is so well thought out and engineered that I sincerely hope the developer gets his patent, 'cause everyone else will try to copy this.
It's so simple. You just find a place to slide it in (like the slot on your CD player or one on your console); tighten a thumbscrew to secure it; and slip your device into the holder. It can lock on there nice and solid too.
Oh, and the build quality is excellent too. The others (which seemed OK at the time) look like cheap toys compared with this one. It is solid and gives you confidence that it is not going to break or be damaged while using it.
What more could you want in any kind of product?
The others are all going back now.

Shopping for a reliable, high-quality mount for your mobile device? The revolutionary MOUNTEK MT5000 solution will hold virtually any small portable gadget, such as cellular phones, GPS receivers, satellite radio players and more! PATENT PENDING DESIGN. It uses NO SUCTION CUPS, NO CLIPS, NO SCREWS, and it requires NO TOOLS. Best part, it won't obstruct your view of the road. This one installs directly into your CD player slot or in between the grooves of your dash. FAQs: My charge port is located on the side of my phone. Will this allow for me to charge it at the same time? Absolutely. Simply detach the support bar located at the bottom of the cradle, and you can easily mount your phone with the charge port exposed. Will the blade fit into a cassette tape slot? Unfortunately not, but we do have an adapter in development. Will the blade activate the CD's auto loader? Although all CD players are made differently, the plastic blade is not long enough to activate the auto loading function. It is now against the law to hold your phone while driving. With the MT5000, you can use your device hands free and promote a safer highway.

Motorola DROID 2 A955 Multimedia Docking Station Review

Motorola DROID 2 A955 Multimedia Docking Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didn't purchase this Multimedia Station Dock from this seller.
I bought it from Verizon Store at the time of DROID 2 purchase.
I just uploaded some photos and as you will see, my "cased" DROID 2 fits into this dock perfectly. However, I HAVE to say, I had a problem fitting my droid onto this dock until couple of hours ago since this dock is somewhat confusing as to how it should be set up.
When I opened the box, I saw only couple parts needed in order to put this dock together. I thought, "how confusing would it be to just build this simple dock!?" and ignored the User Guide. Well, several seconds later after I pulled the dock out of the box, I realized my DROID 2 while its case on will no way fit into this dock base.
I was disappointed and put the dock aside for couple of weeks as I was contemplating on returning it. It seemed a lot of work having have to remove my case every day just to charge (...even for its good looks). I carry my DROID 2 in my purse with other things and carrying it without its case seemed unwise decision (the screen is protected by a screen protector).
So finally I decided to return the dock, and was double checking to see whether I included all the equipment back into the box prior to bring it back to the store. Then I glanced the User Guide and noticed it says (in rather small font) "Use the insert unless you have Motorola protective case on your phone" along with the drawing that suggests there is actually an insert installed onto the dock that you need to remove it if you want to use Droid 2 with the case!
I looked the dock closely to see if there really was such a thing called "insert" that was removable.
Well... there was!
It was fitted onto the dock so perfectly without much gap (though removed fairly easily) and I didn't even notice there was one until then!
Anyhow, I uploaded several photos so I hope they help someone out there.
It is my fault that I didn't take a look at the Users Manual. However, I wish Motorola made the package graphic in a way that was more self-explanatory than how it is now, in addition to stating it on the User Guide (in a larger font).
However, it's a good news if Motorola actually heard and fixed the problem from the previous model (Original DROID multimedia station) by making it compatible with DROID 2 phone while its case on this time.
Just like previous model (and as you can see on my uploaded pictures), this dock WILL NOT WORK with DROID X.
This dock does what's supposed to do (I would say battery recharge takes as much time as you'd recharge it in a usual way).Pros:
- Appearance (Looks good and able to glance at the screen without actually grabbing the phone)
- Compatibility (Fits DROID 2 with or without a case)
- Compactness (Compact enough to take it with me when travel to use it as an alarm stand)
- Durability
Cons:
- Set up was confusingProduct Description:
- Phone automatically launches multimedia mode when placed into station.

- Display the weather, time, and set as an alarm clock.

- Charges your phone when used with included power supply.

Accessory Power GG-FLEX-BERRY BlackBerry FM Transmitter & Car Charger Mount Flex Pod All in One Car Kit Review

Accessory Power GG-FLEX-BERRY BlackBerry FM Transmitter and Car Charger Mount Flex Pod All in One Car Kit
Average Reviews:

In theory, this is a cool gadget, but I'm not sure it's worth the money. (I use it for my BB Curve 8900 from T-mobile.) My top 3 "LIKES" is that my BB fits snugly in the holster, I can charge other devices using the USB plug, and I can now talk hands-free. My top 4 "DISLIKES" is that I have to turn the phone upside down in order for the USB port not to be blocked by the cradle, when I put the phone in the cradle, it sometimes depresses the voice dial button, the FM Transmitter is weak so if I want to listen to my music on my phone I will just use the speakerphone option, and because my cigarette lighter is low, I tend to bump into it when I shift the car into park. I will still continue using it, but it wasn't as awesome as I hoped it would be.

There are a number of products currently on the market already that utilize your car speaker system for playing back the precious music playlists you've acquired on your BlackBerry. However, many of these mobile FM transmitter systems no longer support the new standards BlackBerry has introduced in their next generation products like the BlackBerry. It's hard to be certain anymore if the product you've purchased for your new BlackBerry will even do what it is supposed to do anymore. If you've recently upgraded your hardware, it's time to upgrade your accessories as well. That is why Accessory Power is proud to introduce the GoGroove Flex Berry, the perfect accessory for your Next Generation needs. The GoGroove Flex Berry was custom-designed from the ground up to provide the best sound quality possible by broadcasting on any bandwidth you desire from FM 88.1-107.9 while simultaneously delivering a constant recharge to your Apple product's internal battery. Yet the new Flex Berry provides even more versatility by providing recharge capability to other USB-enabled products (like a GPS) by utilizing the additional USB-A (5V, 1A) charging port and included USB cable. This new system far surpasses anything previously offered by Accessory Power. Every aspect of Accessory Power's previous mobile solution was redesigned and scrutinized to provide a mobile audio solution that would reflect the unique needs of today's evolving market. An improved flexible goose-neck allows users to position the Flex Berry for the most convenient access to your device. Accessory Power has also developed Positive Station Lock technology that significantly improves the sound and locks in the station to ward off interference from competing broadcast signals. Even the silicon gel cushioned cradle was improved and now accommodates a greater number of Apple products, including the popular Shuffle brand.

Sony MEX-BT3800U In-Dash CD Receiver MP3/WMA/AAC Player with Bluetooth Review

Sony MEX-BT3800U In-Dash CD Receiver MP3/WMA/AAC Player with Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
You get a lot for your money with this unit. Between the front auxiliary in, USB, and Bluetooth you have plethora of connectivity options so you should be able to connect anything to this unit for a long time. That's the unit's biggest plus. In fact, it can be a little bit annoying to have to switch through so many inputs via the source to get to the one you want (you can turn off aux in the settings though). You can also add optional HD Radio through an expensive adapter. I don't mind the lack of HD Radio since from what I've read, the execution isn't great yet with radios switching back and forth between the HD and analog signal and the signals themselves not being in sync.
The display is easy to read at a glance, and RDS (displays what is currently playing on the tuner) makes finding new radio stations easy. The iPod controls on the unit are a bit too complicated to bother learning, especially since you can use the iPod's own controls if you switch to "passenger mode". The buttons on the bottom of the unit used to switch stations and perform other operations have kind of a sharp edge a the bottom, which can make them sometimes a little painful to press if you don't aim high when you hit them. The USB will charge your iPod or other device fine.
The Bluetooth connectivity works really well, and sounds great. I use the Bluetooth stereo to stream music from my Motorola Droid with no problems. The Bluetooth hands free functionality is a bit basic since the unit won't display who is calling you, just that you have a call. Not that big of a deal at this price point. My phone will automatically pair the hands free profile when I turn the stereo on, but seems kind of hit or miss with pairing the Bluetooth stereo profile automatically. From using my phone with another Bluetooth speaker, it seems like it's more of an issue with the Droid.
One thing I find really strange with this unit is the remote functionality. If I use the head unit controls to turn on the unit / change source, the only control on the remote that will work is the off button. Vice versa, if you turn the unit on with the remote, all the remote functions work perfectly fine, but you can only use the volume controls on the head unit. Seek buttons, etc will not work. It took me a while to figure this out and at first I thought the remote control was defective. Again, this is not that big of deal to me since I would hardly use the remote, I just wish it was documented somewhere.

Sony's MEX-BT3800U is a great way to add Bluetooth and media power to your vehicle, with 52 Watts through four channels. Make hands-free calls or stream audio from your compatible devices. You can also play back CDs and CD-R/RWs, along with MP3/WMA/AAC files. A front auxiliary input is great for connecting external devices, and you can enjoy full iPod control right from the receiver.

Detachable Faceplate The MEX-BT3800U features a detachable faceplate for added security, with a 1-line, 13-segment LCD display and blue control illumination.
Bluetooth Functionality The MEX-BT3800U features Bluetooth hands-free with an integrated microphone (or through an external microphone), as well as audio streaming functionality using your compatible Bluetooth music device.
USB 1-Wire for iPod, iPhone, and Other USB Devices USB 1-Wire lets you directly connect, charge, and control your digital music player via the USB jack in the front of the unit, as well as view metadata like song title and artist on the front display.
Quick-Browzer Technology With Jump Mode and ZAPPIN Features Quick-BrowZer lets you search and select songs by category, including artist, album, genre, or playlist. Jump Mode gets you closer to the song you want by allowing you to fast forward through a music category in 10 percent increments. With Zappin, you can play music in six-, nine-, or 30-second clips until you find the song you're looking for.
MP3/WMA/AAC Playback With DM+ Multi-format playback lets you play CDs, CD-Rs, or CD-RWs loaded with hundreds of MP3, AAC, or WMA songs. Hear the music on your recorded CDs and MP3s in their original vibrancy with DM+ (Digital Music Plus), an original Sony codec enhancer that reproduces detailed and high-frequency sound from compressed audio.
Satellite and HD Radio Ready The MEX-BT3800U integrates seamlessly with satellite radio Sony Bus adaptors (sold separately) so you can receive digital satellite radio broadcasts. HD Radio capability lets you receive digital audio broadcasts when used with an optional HD Radio tuner.
Radio Data System (RDS) The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist, title, and album.
Front Auxiliary Input The front auxiliary input lets you connect almost any portable audio device to your car's sound system.

When I got the HTC Evo back at the beginning of June I just went to Wal Mart and picked up an FM transmitter there for 50 dollars, but it would only transmit to the radio but not charge the phone. For anyone who has an Evo, you know that the battery life is not good. Plus it had a so much excess wiring. I returned it and bought this off of amazon and it is amazing. It paired within 10 seconds and transmits with barely noticeable no static, transmits far better than the 50 dollar thing I got from Wal-Mart or the FM transmitter I had for my iphone. I put my phone onto pandora, plug in the charger and set it down and if a song comes up I want to skip, I can just hit the forward button on the flexSmart unit which can be easily adjusted to any position for your hand.
I love this thing, its not obtrusive, theres not a ton of excess wiring, just the gooseneck and if you want to charge it simultaneously you can just plug it into the usb port with the included 6 inch wire or use your own. The calls come in clear and great too, just as good as any bluetooth headset.
I highly recommend this if you dont have an auxiliary port in your car stereo, I was considering getting the gomadic one which is only 5 dollars cheapers, but has so much more wiring and the typical inconvenient control module built into the wiring. I'm really glad I got this one, I'm about to drive from DC to Portland and this thing will make the trip much more bearable and its not an eye sore in the car.

Archos 5 500 GB Internet Tablet with Android Review

Archos 5 500 GB Internet Tablet with Android
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just got my new Android 5 500GB direct from Archos yesterday and its quite a beauty. I'm upgrading from my old Archos 5 250GB, so that will be my primary point of comparison. I also have the following to compare to: iPod Touch 64GB, Archos 605, Walkman X, Samsung P2, and a host of other MP3 players large and small.
Given that my iPod Touch upgrade this year was less than astounding, I pretty much figured that this upgrade for Archos would be similarly understated. Mainly I just wanted the extra hard drive so I could backup all my laptops onto my music player. I was wrong! The new Android version seems to have a whole new feel both in form factor and the new software. I had heard that Archos was having problems with the software, but they seem to have ironed most of them out as of 1.1 firmware release. I did update my firmware immediately, and the process was quite smooth.
I'm going to rate this player on my absolute scale. I will also be making notes on the value of the upgrade from my old Archos 5. Note: I mostly use this as a media center to play music and video; secondarily as a backup drive.
Let's get to it then, these are the things I love about my new Android:
1) 500GB -- totally awesome amount of disk, I can now put just about every digital file I own on the Archos.
2) Android interface -- the overall feel of the software interface has definitively improved with the integration of Android. Effects are crisper, the esthetics are cleaner, things seem to happen faster. I especially like how easy it is to access the most recently played song or video from the main screen, pops up with a little thumbnail that you tap on and voila, resumes right where you left off!
3) Apps -- with Android we now have access to some serious app selection. Of course, nobody compares to the Apple App Store, but this comes the closest.
4) Weight -- this actually feels lighter to me than my 250GB.
5) Dock/DVR -- this popped right into my old 5 DVR and started playing right away. I still think this is the best DVR/Player combination available of all the MP3 players.
6) Video/Hi Def -- of the players I have owned, this has the best, biggest, and highest resolution screen.
7) Portrait/Landscape -- Archos has borrowed the iPhone trick of rotating the display according to orientation. I guess they have an accelerometer in there now, I dunno. Still, its fun to see this feature on an Archos. Its a lot easier to navigate playlists in portrait mode.
8) Easy and regular firmware updates -- with a WiFi connection, the firmware updates are easily performed on the unit itself. That's the easiest system I've seen of all my players. One thing I've learned about Archos over the years, they will put out a steady stream of firmware updates.
9) WMV/MTP mode-- very smooth interface to Windows for either Media Monkey or Windows Media Player.
10) Dedicated volume button -- power and volume buttons have been conveniently located onto the top edge. This is actually much easier to use when it is docked on the DVR (which is where mine spends most of its life!).
11) Sound quality is quite good, sounds great through my Klipsch speakers and seems to have more oomph than my other players.
12) WiFi/Browser -- has a good browser and WiFi connection has worked well for me. I think the keyboard is better than the Touch's, although Safari is probably the slightly superior browser. The bigger screen also helps for browsing. Overall I'm inclined to give the Archos the top ranking for browsers.
13) I just discovered Twidroid, one of many apps pre-loaded, allows me to check my Twitter in a really nice format -- love it!
14) Portability -- well there's only so much portability that can be expected with a screen and hard drive this large. This new design is smoother and rounder so its a little more comfortable in a pocket. It is very easy to carry around as a handheld device, fits nicely in my hand as I stroll about the house trying out all of the Android Apps! In any case, this is not as portable as a Touch but I think its pretty good for a small computer -- which is basically what this is.
15) No extra plug ins needed (so far!). Always in the past I've laid out another $40 for additional Archos plugins to play iPod format music and other video formats. So far I haven't had to do that -- thank you Archos :)
16) Archos will stand behind their product. I've had to send in a couple of Archos units over the years and they have always been happy to either repair or replace the unit without quibbling about it, as long as its under warranty. Note: it did take two weeks to get my unit back!
17) Multi threading: now I show my engineer/geek side. This baby can do a bunch of different stuff at the same time, unlike the iPhone/Touch which can really only do one thing at a time. The Android can be doing other stuff while you are listening music. I love the little bar on the top that you can pull down and switch to any other task that is running.
18) Built-in kickstand, very nice feature.
19) Stylus friendly touch screen -- sometimes you just get tired of trying to type a touchscreen keyboard with fat fingers! In general, this is one of my favorite touch screens. Most of the other touch screens, including iPod/iPhone, are capacitance which means stylus won't work
20) Micro USB cable plug-in: finally a standardized USB plug and you can have it resting on its kickstand while plugged in :)
Given that the Archos tops the class in several categories, and continues to be the best 500GB 5 inch screen player available I give it about a 4.7 stars out of 5 (round to 5). There are a few things I'm less than thrilled about:
1) Update: I believe you can now format your drive in a Windows friendly format on 1.7.96 version of firmware. External hard drive EXT3 -- as I understand it, Archos changed to the EXT3 hard drive format for reasons of speed and reliability. The result for me is that I can no longer simply select hard drive MSC mode, plug the Archos into a Windows machine and expect to access the drive. You have to install an Ext3 driver such as EXT2 IFS on your Windows PC. Once I did that I was able to access the hard drive and backup files to my hearts content.
2) The playlist interface didn't get much of an upgrade and its still kind of clunky. I want to simply tap my playlist and it starts playing. Often times I have to do a couple of extra taps to get the thing playing.
3) We lost the dedicated play button and removable battery a while back -- but I still miss them both! None of my favorite touch screen players has either of these features. I'm also missing the brown metallic color and the rubbery backside.
4) Finding a case for this baby is no easy trick. You're not going to find one at the local Best Buy I'm afraid. In the past I've resorted to ordering my Archos cases from European companies like I-nique and Noreve. This is generally true of any player that is not an iPod or a Zune.
5) As always with Archos, you must remember that you are dealing with a French based company. This means that they don't always provide the best support/service/upgrades to us Americans.
6) Lets face it, Archos is always playing catch up. Some of the new features aren't fully functional yet. I do have faith that Archos will fix all the little glitches with things like GPS over the course of the next 6 months. The Apps available are currently a bit limited. I expect this will improve over the coming months.
7) Keep in mind that this is not a unit for the faint of heart. This is more for the hobbyist who wants a cutting edge experience that may take some messing around to get it just the way you want it. If you want something easy that requires minimum effort then iPods are going to be more your cup of tea.
For me this is still the best player of its class -- that class being large hard drive, big screen PMP players with other fun features. Android makes for some fun possibilities, and overall I'm impressed with this as an upgrade. Once again, if you don't mind a smaller screen and you love apps I suggest you get an iPod Touch. If what you care about most is sound quality you may want to get a Walkman X. For me those are your top 3 touch screen players, it just depends on what you care about the most.
Note: 10-23-2009; I upgraded to firmware version 1.2.03 which fixes some App, Browser, and YouTube issues. Apps do seem happier now, upgrade process was very smooth. Still happily listening to tunes for about 8 hours a day with no problems :)
Update 11-7-2009: I've been running version 1.2.15 with a host of bug fixes and the unit does seem more stable in general now. Wifi is working better and USB connection seems more reliable.
Update 11-23-2009: Upgrade to firmware v 1.3.07 -- a long list of bug fixes including a few improvements that I had hoped for to control the scanning of multimedia files/ ArcLibrary. Got an AppsLib update which seems to work more reliably. There seem to be a lot more apps available now (300 ish) in AppsLib. Just keeps getting better and better! Still is playing music day in and day out with no problems and I'm backing up 2 laptops worth of files onto my 5 IT.
Update 12-18-2009: I've been on firmware 1.4.16 for over a week now. Lots of little fixes, seems even more stable now.
Update 2-11-2010: Firmware 1.7.33 (Android Donut) upgrade. The upgrade was a bit of work, I ended up reformatting the drive and starting anew. However, power saving seems to work a lot better and I haven't seen it reset itself for quite a while now. This seems to be the most solid release yet!
Update 4-8-2010: Firmware...Read more›

Chumby one Review

Chumby one
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife was thinking of getting me a Sony Dash for my birthday but then heard me say "Why would anyone want something like that - why not just buy a netbook" in passing, so she opted not to get it. She let me know afterward she was looking at the Dash and Chumby (which I hadn't heard of even though they make the Dash). After looking at it, I thought it was really cool and got the Chumby One to surprise her.
Whether we want to admit it or not, we vote with our wallets. Two days after we received it, I ordered two more. It's not perfect but it's great.
The FM Reception is non-existent as another commenter noted. I'm going to try using a 'real' antenna today to see if that makes a difference, but if not, I really won't be too bothered. If it's a feature it should work, but FM clock radios have been around for years and FM stations aren't why I bought it.
We've only had it about a week but we have experienced none of the reception problems others mentioned. We have a ton of wireless devices in the house and have had a lot of problems with interference on other devices, but so far, the Chumby has worked without a blink. Although we have several repeaters throughout the house, I connected it to the primary link which is on the far side of the house (which has a moderately weak signal in our bedroom) and we still didn't have any problem. Full disclosure on that - I just did it as a test and let it run for about two hours but if a problem was going to surface, i'm quite sure it would have by then. Suffice to say - at least so far, we've had great connectivity and no problems.
The setup process was very simple. I wished I had a real keyboard when setting up the wifi b/c our Wifi keys are insanely long, but that's not the fault of the Chumby. The sync between the web site and the unit during registration was one of the coolest things I've seen in a while (basically, you fill in a bunch of circles on what looks like a giant tic tac toe - the pattern is then used to transmit the unit id to the web site so you don't have to). The whole process took about 10 minutes but much of that was b/c my wife and I were talking about how cool each aspect was. [Make sure however that when you align the screen, you use your fingernail as instructed. It's easy to just use your whole finger but if you do that - the sync will be off slightly. We goofed the first time around and had trouble using the keyboard - until we went into settings and re-adujusted everything. After we read the manual and did it the way we were supposed to - all was fine. But it's an easy thing to overlook. It's also easy to think the thing is your iPhone or Android and try using the screen according - your mileage will vary)
Once it was loaded, she spent about 30 minutes getting rid of default apps she didn't want (like ESPN, which is why I ordered two more - b/c I like a few of them) then adding new ones. Facebook, check. Twitter, check. Gmail check. Craigslist, check. We hadn't found an app to check Exchange or SMTP email but what she did was create a Gmail account and had her other accounts forward to it. While having email invade the bedroom might sound like insanity - it can actually be really helpful - you can glance over at the email list and quickly determine if it's ok to sleep in for a bit or if you need to rush to work early to put out a fire.
There are a ton of apps and b/c the API is open, you can build your own if you want something that isnt' there. I've taken a stab at two such apps and will be giving the upload process a try later this week. While most people aren't going to take advantage of that b/c it requirest some specific development experience, it's a great touch.
She's found an app for pretty much everythign she's wanted including a great backlight app, some amazingly cool wake up applications and the standard stuff you'd expect. Setup was amazingly straightforward and everything other than the FM tuner works as advertised (if the aux antenna works, I'll update the review). All in all from start to finish the experience is delightful and considering the price we love it - like I said, so much we wanted a few more for the rest of our house. I also ordered a pair of Beats by Dre just to make the whole thing perfect and it's a great combination (although being my wife's present, I feel guilty using it too much that's one reason for the other ones). That brings up one issue though - these aren't as generic as we thought. What I mean is, this is the type of thing that becomes "Mine" and the customizations are what makes it so cool. We have different facebook, twitter, pandora settings even though they're mostly similar and we're married. So one generic one for the family probably won't do for most folks especially if you have kids - get one kid a Chumby and I promise you the ohter will scream bloody murder until he/she gets her own. However that's the nature of anything cool and useful so it's not a knock.
Additionally, this will make one heck of a Christmas present. It's quite easy to spend $100.00 on a gift card which will partially go to waste or a similar present that will just get regifted or sit in the garage - this is guaranteed to be loved by anyone but hard core luddites.
Like I said, the wifi has not been a problem although we've only had it about a week and I'm comfortable saying that b/c although we have several repeaters , we've connected to links that have moderately weak signals and didn't appear to have any issue. I'd still be loving it if it was twice as much - if it was much over $250.00 I'd have my second thoughts just b/c a netbook really would be in order there, but for the price, it's an amazing value and packs a lot of bang for the buck. It's right in the gift price range and pretty much everyone has wifi these days so I don't think you can go wrong with it.

Droid X Desktop OEM Charger Multimedia Docking Station with HDMI technology Review

Droid X Desktop OEM Charger Multimedia Docking Station with HDMI technology
Average Reviews:

I read reviews on the dock and thought it would make a great addition to my accessory collection, I have the car mount and love it. This mount allows me to have a clock by my side of the bed that I can see without having to put on my glasses. It also doubles as an overnight charger, I often forget to charge and the battery is so low in the morning that I often have to limit use while out for the day. It is solid and well made, almost sexy in it's clean styling. If you are in doubt about purchasing, don't think about it anymore, BUY IT NOW!!!! It will be well worth it.

Archos 5 16GB Internet Tablet with Android (Black) Review

Archos 5 16GB Internet Tablet with Android (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I previously owned the 605 WiFi and the Vision 3. This is a huge step up. PROS: great sound, excellent video playback, very responsive screen (especially for a resistive touch), G-Sensor and Accelerometer works great, Browser is awesome, games run great, etc. Now I updated to the newest firmware only to find that youtube has not been fixed. But here's the thing...I used a hack to install marketplace and now Youtube works great. Strange?
CONS: proprietary plugs, too many accessories that you have to buy to get full experience, charge time is kind of extreme, does not come with marketplace. it has their own version. gets lots of fingerprints!
They almost messed this one up. they are so close i can taste it. Every year they release a amazing play on paper...but when you use it...you find that certain features may or may not work. or work half a**. This is very close. In october they will be releasing ever better players that include so much more including built in camera :-). It's not bad...i still prefer it over the iPod touch. especially since it will sync with nearly any player. not just itunes. works with Winamp and Windows Media player. Another cool thing is that if you have album art...it will import it. very cool. There are two versions of the Archos 5. one with android and one without. It was definitely a good idea to go WITH android. It's almost impossible to screw up android. Having owned the iPod Touch, iPhone, Archos 605, and more....I can honestly say...this one isn't bad. especially for the price. Wish it had more space though. 16gb isn't enough for me. but hey...it comes with the SD slot too so you can add up to 32gb. awesome!

Advanced Car Mount System FM Transmitter & Charger for ANDROID Phones - HTC, Google, T-Mobile, Motorola, Samsung Review

Advanced Car Mount System FM Transmitter and Charger for ANDROID Phones - HTC, Google, T-Mobile, Motorola, Samsung
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have the Advanced Car Mount System FM Transmitter & Charger for about 2 weeks now. The first days, I loved it, it was doing everything as advertised. What I did not realize is the it is one solid piece, I was expecting that a loose wire between the cigarette lighter adapter and the cradle, it is actually the back bone of the system which makes the cradle standing by itself. The cradle is not attached to car by anything.
It it true that electronic is working perfectly however the weight of the phone is really the enemy, the little rubbers around the socket which goes inside the cigarette lighter have given up with the weight of the phone. So now, when I am turning the car the all apparatus is turning with the car and the entire stuff falls on the floor.
So, until this design defect is fixed, I would not recommend it expect if you have a very light phone not a EVO like me.
