Philips Fidelio SBD7500 Portable Speaker Dock for iPod/iPhone (Black) Review

Philips Fidelio SBD7500 Portable Speaker Dock for iPod/iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Though this unit works well, it has a very bad design flaw that any buyer considering it should be aware of. When using it as a portable getting power from its internal AA batteries, even when you shut the unit OFF with its ON/OFF switch, the four batteries will self discharge to dead in about a week because the unit still draws current from the batteries even when shut OFF.
I considered my unit to be defective because of this problem but when I contacted Philips support to request a exchange unit under warranty, I was informed that this battery drain was normal and that I needed to remove one or more of the batteries when not using the unit to prevent the batteries from going dead. Dumb, dumb, triple dumb design flaw in my opinion!
Why even have an ON/OFF switch if you must remove a battery to really shut it OFF!

iHome iH27 Portable Alarm Clock for iPod (Black) Review

iHome iH27 Portable Alarm Clock for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I can't imagine what they were thinking when they designed this thing.
Here's the problem. If you have an ipod in the unit you cannot wake up to the buzzer, only the ipod. If you go to sleep with the ipod on, playing some mellow music at low volume, this is what you will hear for your morning alarm. It's not going to wake you. You cannot use the buzzer for an alarm unless you take the ipod out. What's the point of having it?
Mine is going back.

Click Here to see more reviews about: iHome iH27 Portable Alarm Clock for iPod (Black)

Perfect for the busy traveler, this portable iPod alarm clock speaker system lets you sleep or wake to your favorite iPod tunes or buzzer, or just enjoy a little music while your iPod charges. With a lock feature to maintain settings, battery or AC power, and a protective carrying case, it lets you take some room-filling sound nearly anywhere.

Charge and Play Your iPod Anywhere Play back your favorite tunes at home or while traveling with the iH27. While your iPod is docked, it receives a charge (when on AC power), so when you're ready to go, so is your iPod.

The iH27 power adapter is able to handle input voltage from 100 to 240 VA, so it'll work overseas with the right plug adapters. And because the iH27 is powered by either AC or four AA batteries (not included), you can enjoy music with or without an outlet. A handy carrying case is also included to keep the device safe and sound while in transit, whether it's a business trip or a barbecue.

Sleep or Wake to Your iPod The iH27 lets you wake to your docked iPod (or the buzzer alarm for you masochists). A gradual alarm feature gently raises the alarm volume, so as not to jar you out of sleep. You can also dim the display, with high, medium, low, and off settings.

The iH27 also has a sure alarm feature so the buzzer alarm will still sound in the event of power failure, if backup battery is installed.

And of course, there's a snooze button for grabbing a few more minutes of slumber and a sleep mode for falling asleep to your favorite tunes or podcasts.

Big Sound in a Small Package iHome's Reson8 technology, with through-body ported speaker chambers, gives the iH27's four speakers better response characteristics for superior stereo sound. In addition, SRS WOW technology is designed to provide a broader audio image with enhanced low-range and mid-range sound reproduction, in order to bring added life to compressed MP3 files.

Auxiliary Input and A/V Output Use the iH27's auxiliary input to connect external devices such as MP3 or CD players. You can also send the audio and/or video from the dock's A/V out to a television or stereo, for enjoying your iPod content on a larger scale.

What's in the Box iH27 main unit, AC adapter, iPod dock inserts, auxiliary cable, and user's manual.

Speakal iPig 2.1 Stereo iPod Docking Station with 5 Speakers - Limited Edition (Black) Review

Speakal iPig 2.1 Stereo iPod Docking Station with 5 Speakers - Limited Edition (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The only drawback is the cutesy appearance which makes this unit look more like a toy than a serious compact sized all in one IPOD dock.
Having had 4 Harmon Kardon Go+Play and being very familier with the HK sound, I consider this a baby Harmon Kardon Go+Play. It doesn't have the same maximum volume but it does get respectably loud with true 24 watts and audio extension down to 60 hz. VERY clear, present and strong. A super unit that's only about 6.3 inches in diameter, making for the best sounding small all in one unit I have ever heard.
Incidentally, I travel with the highly regarded larger Boomtube unit reviewed on Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/Virgin-VS2100-Boomtube-Portable-Speaker/dp/B000ARIT5G/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1225204410&sr=8-3
The IPIG walls ALL OVER the Boomtube. No comparison- much better frequency response, more presence, clarity, deeper bass, and louder. The only drawback is that this is too small to give stereo separation. This is going to be my new travel music unit. I tested it with wireless microphone and it works great also as an amplification system good enough for speaking to 100 people.

Quality, performance, and plenty of fun. Speakal's iPig is an iPod docking station that boasts five speakers with 23-plus Watts of output. This little piggy comes loaded with a 4-inch sub, bass reflex system, two tweeters, two 1.5-inch mid-range drivers, a sound stabilization system, and plenty more. The Touch Control feature allows you to control the volume with a gentle tap of the pig's "ears." Add a full-featured remote control and an auxiliary input, and this little piggy's ready for action. Oink!

Highly Compatible The iPig is compatible with most Apple iPods. Plus, thanks to the auxiliary input, it also works with MP3 and MP4 players, portable game consoles (PSP, Nintendo DS), gaming consoles (PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox, Xbox360), portable and non portable CD and DVD players, televisions, personal computers (desktop and laptops), and mobile phones with audio-playing capabilities.

Humanized Touch Volume Control Gently touch the right ear of the iPig to raise the volume, and touch the Left one to lower the volume. This technology will react only to the human touch.

High-Quality Sound The iPig boasts a high-fidelity amplifier, an interior dynamic airflow optimizer, and an interior dynamic cooling exchange system with high sound stabilization to consistently deliver a clear and powerful sound.

iPod Docking Station Dock your compatible iPod, charge it, and listen to your music without interruption. Plus, you still can enjoy music from other devices, like the iPod shuffle, via the 3.5-mm input connector.

Infra-Red Remote Control Remote control included to browse through the different iPod features and to control the speakers' volume, treble, and bass.

Smiley Lit Mouth Each time a command is sent through the remote or when touching the ears, the light will blink as a confirmation of the command received. It also indicates whether the speaker system is on or off.

Bring on the Bass Control the level of Bass output from the knob control in the back of the iPig. Enjoy deep bass in a small package. Crank up the volume, and then place your hand in front of the mouth--you'll feel it.

360 Degrees Sound Spreading The shape and the technical placement of the 5 speakers gracing the iPig, along with the use of sound diffusers, allows a 360 degree distribution for good sound anywhere in the room.

Standard Mini Jack A 3.5-mm stereo audio-in connection enables you to connect the system with other audio and gaming devices.

GREEN and RoHS Compliant Speakal products are made using environment-friendly, non-hazardous materials.

Shiny Colors Available in four high-gloss colors: Black (Limited Edition), White, Yellow, and Pink--complement your decor and different iPod colors.

Multi Cradles The system is designed to fit your iPod with the correct dock insert.

Unfortunately this item was advertised as a clock radio on the Amazon site. When we received it...it was not a radio. Here is the previous item description: "Portable Clock Radio Dock Gm"
Works OK as an IPod speaker, but we were looking for a alarm clock / radio / IPod player combo.
Looks like now they've changed the item description.
We were taken to the cleaners.

Memorex MI2601P TagAlong Portable Boombox for iPod and iPhone (White) Review

Memorex MI2601P TagAlong Portable Boombox for iPod and iPhone (White)
Average Reviews:

This is a handy little portable that does exactly as advertised. For the mid-price, the sound is OKAY, frankly, if you want great sound, save up the several hundred dollars and buy a Bose. What you get here is something akin to a table radio with a spot for your I-Pod. I have an I-pod classic and a Nano (2009 model) and they both get into the dock easily. The volume is adjustable; despite the other reviews here, I am having no sound/volume problems. So far, I have used this as a desk player and at an event where I just wanted some music as I sat around with people passing by. The Tag-along is VERY lightweight, making it easy to cart around. Overall, a satisfactory music maker if you don't get your expectations too high.

Philips Rock-n-Roll Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod Review

Philips Rock-n-Roll Speaker Dock for iPhone/iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Philips Rock-n-Roll speaker dock features capabilities that are fairly common in modern iPod/iPhone docks in its price range:
- bundled set of various iPod/iPhone docking adapters
- Charges iPod/iPhone while playing
- Operates on batteries or AC via small world-compatible "wall wart"
- attractive design
- GSM shielding for iPhone
- dock-compatible with the latest models of iPhone and iPod
- auxiliary input (stereo minijack)
- compact and portable
It also features some very peculiar, unique design traits:
- operates in portrait (dock connector at the bottom) or landscape (connector at the right or left) modes
- a sensor automatically adjusts sound and backlighting accordingly
- colored backlight (blue when operating in portrait mode, gray in landscape mode). The light can be turned off via a switch in the battery compartment.
- kickstand functions in both portrait and landscape modes
In case you didn't notice its round shape, Philips thought it wise to remind you by shipping it in a cylindrical cardboard box. It's very pretty, but infuriatingly difficult to open (the lid is glued). A more traditional box would have been less trendy, but probably cheaper to make, ship, and less painful to open.
The biggest surprise was... the sound. I have to admit that I did not expect such a quirky, gimmicky device to sound this good. It has replaced the Altec Lansing iM600USB (which is not iPhone shielded) as my docking station of choice.
PROS
----
Excellent sound
Operates the iPhone in portrait and landscape mode by simply rotating the dock (a built-in sensor takes care of the rest)
iPhone shielded
Compatible with latest models of iPhone and iPod
Combines with your iPod touch or iPhone to make an excellent alarm clock
Reasonable price
CONS
----
No radio (but the iPhone/iPod touch has access to a vast number of internet radios via free apps)
No built-in rechargeable battery (but it uses 4xAA batteries so you can easily use high capacity NiMH batteries)
No remote (as if you needed one on a small device like this)
Quirky shape, no handle (not as easy to travel with as it could be)
With the Rock-n-Roll, Philips has delivered a quirky but excellent docking station that can more than hold its own when compared to popular docking stations from JBL, Altec Lansing and others. It's not my first choice for traveling (some smaller Logitech models which come with a travel case are much better choices for that) but as a nightstand or office dock, it's worth serious consideration. You may get it for the looks, but you'll keep it for the sound!

iHome iP87 Dual Alarm Clock Radio with AM/FM Presets and Dock for iPhone and iPod with Remote (Black) Review

iHome iP87 Dual Alarm Clock Radio with AM/FM Presets and Dock for iPhone and iPod with Remote (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a mostly very well thought out clock radio. I list below my LIKES and DISLIKES, so that you can more easily determine if this would be a good purchase for you:
LIKES:
* It charges your Ipod
* The alarm can be set to wake you up to your Ipod music (you create a Playlist on your Ipod called "iHome" with whatever song(s) you want; then when setting the alarm, you choose the option to wake to playlist)
* The alarm is a gradual alarm. Whether you choose to wake to a buzzer, iPod, radio, etc., the sound of the alarm starts gradually, before it comes on too loud. This is a nicer way to wake up, I think
* The digital display is very bright on its brightest setting. This can be useful as a nightlight in your room. However, if the radio is close to your bed, the brightness can easily be adjusted lower by pressing the "snooze" button until you find your desired brightness
* The sound quality is fine. Obviously, it cannot match full-size speakers, and for the price, it is not going to be quite as solid as similar sized radios which cost twice as much (or more). But, for this attractive price, the sound quality is fine, acceptable, etc.!
* It can be programmed to only way on the 5 weekdays, 2 weekend days or all 7 days. Although, as noted below, this may not be working correctly, or maybe I am missing a setting
* The price is very competitive for the features you receive on this radio
DISLIKES:
* Setting the alarm requires spinning a wheel-like dial. If you set different times regularly, and especially if those different times are far apart from each other, spinning the dial can be troublesome.
* Even though you are supposed to be able to set it for "5 days" (meaning it should only wake you M-F), I cannot seem to make that work properly. So, I work around this by telling it to wake me all 7 days, and on the weekends when my wake up schedule is different, I simply change the wake up time.
SUMMARY:
The LIKES greatly outweight the DISLIKES. This is a great iPod clock radio.

iLuv i277BLK iPod Alarm Clock Audio System with Bluepin (Black) Review

iLuv i277BLK iPod Alarm Clock Audio System with Bluepin (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is really a cool product. I was able to pair with my Mobile(HTC TyTN II), Headphone/Headset (Lubix) very easily. It got paired in the first try. The instructions are pretty clear in the manual. Music is good for the small size, Bass is less, naturally. Can't compare with Bose. The music from my Phone through the BluePin on this is really good. The Blupin Receiver was able to receive music till 15-20 feet clearly, after that it breaks. I was able to FF/RR/Stop, Adjust volume from my phone.
As a Bluetooth transmitter, it works great. I connected my TV Audio output to 277 using the line-in and change the mode to AUX with BluePin in TX mode and used a Lubix Bluetooth Head Phone/Set. The transmission was awesome.
Tested with iPod/iPhone and this works as stated. The snooze button in the front is good one. Even we can switch off the display using this. Radio works as stated. Weight less. Looks great. Has a remote but not senstive.
Actually I was searching for a Bluetooth Transmitter for my TV. The Sony and Motorola were quoted @ Amazon for $60. I thought it's pretty costly for the simple Bluetooth Transmitter of class 1. So searched the net and found this for same price. So now I have a Transmitter with multiple functionality.
So this is an All in one model.
Pros
1) Receiver for my Phone to listen music
2) Wireless Transmitter to my TV, so I can watch the TV without disturbing anybody using my Bluetooth head phone
3) Listening to iPod/Radio in Wireless mode with full control.
If you read the manual twice , it easy to understand everything.
Cons
1) The cons, I would say is that it's not Bluetooth2(has 300Ft of range) only Bluetooth1 (30 Ft range)
2) No Equalizer/Pre-set for music.
3) Remote can be made better.
===============================
Update - Nov 26th 2010
After 1 year of use, it is still working good. Bluetooth works fine. Audio quality is good. Like this product

I was excited to get this iPod dock/alarm clock when I ordered it. Unfortunately, I'm guessing that I received a refurbished item or a dud. For two weeks I was able to wake up to my favorite tunes playing through my fancy new alarm clock. Then one night I was awakened by a horrible screaching and the alarm clock was blinking crazily. The only way to get it to stop was to unplug the whole thing! This happened to or three more times. Each time I had to reset the clock and all the features.
Lately the screaching has stopped, but the darn thing also won't play music through the speakers. I just use it as a dock to charge my phone.
I'm pretty disappointed

You get what you pay for, and I paid little and hoped for a lot. It does work. The alarm, the dock, etc., but trying to use the buttons to set the time or adjust the volume requires you to stand on one foot, hop up and down, and chant. Eventually you'll get there, and the chanting will help.
Good luck.

Philips DC220/37 Docking Clock Radio for iPhone and iPod Review

Philips DC220/37 Docking Clock Radio for iPhone and iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bought this for my wife, who has an iPhone 4. Her phone works fine with this Philips DC220/37, and due to the design of the iPod dock on this clock, she doesn't have to remove the case from the iPhone to dock it! That definitely makes life easier. The Snooze button is at the front of the radio, just in front of the iPod dock, which is very convenient. The Snooze button also serves as the dimmer, and the lowest setting is nice and dim for sleeping. Much better design than the iHome iA5, which I own.
THE SPEAKERS SOUND GREAT! Nice bass, and another advantage over the iHome iA5 is that the Philips has 2 speakers instead of just one! I almost didn't buy this radio because of the previous reviewer who said the speakers were "God awful". Well, I'm glad I didn't listen to HIS review! Be realistic, this IS an alarm clock, for use at your bedside. It is NOT a home entertainment system with big speakers that is going to be super loud. It doesn't need to perform like an iPod Boombox, or the sound system at a party, because it will be right next to your head! Buy with confidence!

Philips AJ300D Clock Radio with iPod/GoGear Dock Review

Philips AJ300D Clock Radio with iPod/GoGear Dock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Once you get past the fact that Amazon has really misrepresented this item, I can say that it really is a what I needed. Yes, as mentioned by another reviewer, there is NO CD player funtion at all. It would have been fantastic if Philips had designed it with one in mind, but I think it would have killed it's compact size which is why I bought it. There are only 5 presets (not 20 as per Amazon's description and the unit only plays FM, no AM). This is mentioned in the "Technical Details" of the description page, if you click on it. The detail that there is no CD funtion is there, too - very contradictory.
I love the fact that it's small (I can move it from room to room). There are three wake-up modes (FM radio, gentle wake buzzer, and iPod dock). But, the best item would have to be the wOOx technology for powerful bass, on the back of the unit. That sold me on this "Play and Charge" unit, and I love that feature the most. The sound is excellent for the price. You can still connect a portable CD player, VCR or even an iPod Shuffle, through the AUX port and cord supplied. So, it's not a one trick pony.
The clock function is good, with 3 brightness settings (Bright, Low and OFF), and both Sleep and Snooze funtions on the alarm. I found it simple to set the clock and alarm(s). No battery back-up is a negative. Even a simple 9V would be enough to keep presets and radio function if the power went out.
Overall: I like it, I really do.

Sharp DKA1 i-Elegance Music System with Alarm Clock for iPod (White) Review

Sharp DKA1 i-Elegance Music System with Alarm Clock for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Sharp DK-A1 is a solid choice if looking for a way to play your I-pod externally. The positives include: very good sound. My sister has the Bose sound system for her I-pod which costs over twice as much from what I paid, but does not sound any better. The Sharp casts very deep, full sound, with lots of base for such a small unit. The E-sound button magnifies the bass nicely, but will become distorted, if the sound is too loud with it on. The illuminated blue lights are a nice touch and look great at night. The general design is nicely laid out. The negatives are: Limited range with the remote. I can only use the remote if I am within 6 ft of the console. In addition I am unable to change the play lists from the remote. It will only control the sound level and allow you to change the songs from the same play lists. I would have liked if this system had a handle to carry it from room to room and had a built in antenna, rather than the external wires which are a nuance to disconnect and reconnect when moving the system. The display panel in the front of the unit only says I-pod when the I-pod is in use, rather than display the artist and song playing. You need to look at the display of the I-pod to get this information which isn't nearly as visible as the display on the unit. Also, the AM radio only gets adequate reception. In general, I do recommend the Sharp DK-A1 as it does deliver very good sound at an affordable price but wish it had better thought out features.

The Sharp i-Elegance line of docking speaker systems turns your personal iPod into a stereo jukebox for all your friends and family to enjoy. Compatible with every iPod that incorporates a 30-pin dock connector, the system plays and charges your iPod simultaneously, making it easy to enjoy your favorite tunes whether lounging on the patio or cooking in the kitchen. The i-Elegance is equipped with a pair of front-firing, full-range speakers and two side-firing subwoofers, which combine to produce crisp, crystal-clear highs and mids and a deep, powerful bass performance. Adding to the audio versatility is a six-step electronic equalizer that customizes the sound based on the music genre, along with an E-sound mode that improves the quality of compressed digital sound. The latter feature is great for digital music formats, as it reverses the deterioration that results from compression technologies by enhancing the sound frequency spectrum and increasing the sound pressure.
The i-Elegance also includes a digital AM/FM tuner that picks up all your favorite stations, with 32 station presets for quick and efficient tuning. The built-in alarm, meanwhile, lets you wake to your favorite iPod selections or a buzzing alarm (other alarm options include a sleep timer and a programmed shutoff mode). And users will love the system's compact remote control, which lets them control all the functions of the i-Elegance from across the room. iLive Portable Boombox with iPod Dock (Black) Review

iLive Portable Boombox with iPod Dock (Black)

I wanted a little ipod radio with good sound quality for patio parties or in our basement when we're hanging out. But this boombox has really cheap, tinny sound, no bass, no treble, just like a little kids radio. Also the cord connection isn't very strong so the sound cuts out and the cord has to be wiggled for it to come back on. I'll be returning this and purchasing the rounded version of this radio, that takes 8 C batteries and comes in different colors. Hoping that it has better sound quality than this piece of junk.

GOgroove SENSE QUAD Speaker Sound System with FM Radio and Alarm Clock for ATandT and Verizon Apple iPhone and iPod (NEWEST AND PREVIOUS MODELS)

I've been using this speaker for about 3 days now. Here's what I found:
Sound:
It's pretty good. It has 4 speakers that you can visibly see through the black speaker mesh. I think it ads a nice visual touch. At max volume the sound can fill a room nicely. I've used it in my office and in my bedroom thus far. Volume goes up to Level 40, with an Equalizer with treble and bass that goes from -08 to 08 by intervals of 02. There is very good range in the treble and bass variance. When I blasted the treble, bass and volume at full the sound got a little distorted, but when I changed the volume from 40 to 38, the sound was clear. I'd say it depends on the music you are listening to, but if you want it LOUD, put it at Volume 38, Bass 06, Treble 06. When I just want medium level music I found that Volume 22-26 is good, and I just leave the bass and treble at 06. You can adjust the volume eithe ron the remote, or on the speaker dock. You can ONLY adjust the bass and treble with the remote. I haven't used the FM Radio function that much, but 106.7 KROQ in Los Angeles has been working well.
Physical Design:
The design looks good. It fits in nicely wherever I put it. Some speaker docks look kind of wierd lately.. like space aged designs. This one is slick, fun, and practical. The shape of it is kind of cool. I like how my iPhone docks in the middle of the two speakers. The blue clock face is a nice touch. Also, this thing runs on 6 AA batteries so it allows you take take it away from the wall outlet. I got 8 hours of play time off of a single charge of 2100mAh recharegable batteries.
Alarm Function:
The iPhone wake-up feature is cool because you can wake up to the last song that you were listening to on your iPhone. AND wake up with it FULLY CHARGED :) !!! The sound starts out low, and then it comes in and gets louder and louder until you wake up.. great idea. You can also set it to wake you up via FM radio or beeping/buzzer noise. I haven't used those options though. The Snooze button is cool for sleeping an extra 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. ALso there's a nap function but I don't really take naps so I haven't used it. The thing I liek most is that you can control the alarm with the remote so you can shut it off or set it from the bed.
Remote:
It does EVERYTHING. No complaints. I can sit in bed and go through my whole iPhone with the remote. You can get to songs, playlists artists and you can go up and down levels in the folders... even switch to podcast. It's great to have a remote when you are tired :)
Other stuff:
I've used it with my friends Droid x to play music becuase the back has a AUX jack and it comes with a cable...great. I took it to the beach and used it with batteries and it was pretty cool. It won't charge your iPhone off of AA batteries though.
I like this speaker because for me its perfect. I can see how some people might not need all the stuff this thing packs. I dont' use the FM radio so much. All the other stuff is cool. I like that its compact and still has 4 speakers. Solid product. Also it comes with a 3 year warranty.

Coby CSMP160 Digital Speaker System with Dual Alarm Clock/FM Radio for iPod and MP3 Players (Black) Review

Coby CSMP160 Digital Speaker System with Dual Alarm Clock/FM Radio for iPod and MP3 Players (Black)
Average Reviews:

When I first bought this clock, it worked perfectly. After two months, the display screen just died on me. Every single character that could possibly be viewed on my clock screen was there. I sent it back to the manufacturer with one day left on the warranty. It took a month and a half, but I got a new one at my own shipping expense. I noticed that the new one had a weird and very faint high pitched ring to it, even when the radio was off. Other than that, it was fine for the next five months. Then the screen died again. I would recommend not buying this product.
