(More customer reviews)An overview of this item is that it works as designed. I have an iPod Touch 3G with a plastic case and this device holds it well. It hasn't slipped or fallen out once. The wide range of channels on the device provides great sound quality with no static or interference at all. This device sits about a foot away from my radio and this distance is no problem at all. Some other iPod FM transmitters require the device to be placed literally next to the radio in order for the music to even come through. This transmitter though provides a great broadcasting signal at any of the channels available. However, there is a faint high pitched whine that accompanies the music through the speakers and increases and decreases with the volume. This whine is negligible though and hardly noticeable.
The car charger portion fits in very well in my car (02 Honda Civic) but the connector is not flexible or bendable as in other models. Also, my cup holder flips open and closed and while this device doesn't keep you from having drinks there, I am unable to open or shut the cup holder once the device is inserted into the car charger. However, the connector allows for the iPod to be rotated 180 degrees up and down and I find the lack of flexibility with the positioning of the device doesn't bother me at all. The iPod charges well through this device and connection is simple.
Overall this product works. For the price, I would definitely recommend it.
UPDATE:
I wanted to update my review of this product after months of use. The original transmitter I purchased ended up breaking. The chord that connects the transmitter to my iPod Touch ended up breaking in half and completely came apart. This happened without any wear at all and seemed to be a natural progression of the chord simply moving around. I purchased another one (how can you beat the

Sound:
It's pretty good. It has 4 speakers that you can visibly see through the black speaker mesh. I think it ads a nice visual touch. At max volume the sound can fill a room nicely. I've used it in my office and in my bedroom thus far. Volume goes up to Level 40, with an Equalizer with treble and bass that goes from -08 to 08 by intervals of 02. There is very good range in the treble and bass variance. When I blasted the treble, bass and volume at full the sound got a little distorted, but when I changed the volume from 40 to 38, the sound was clear. I'd say it depends on the music you are listening to, but if you want it LOUD, put it at Volume 38, Bass 06, Treble 06. When I just want medium level music I found that Volume 22-26 is good, and I just leave the bass and treble at 06. You can adjust the volume eithe ron the remote, or on the speaker dock. You can ONLY adjust the bass and treble with the remote. I haven't used the FM Radio function that much, but 106.7 KROQ in Los Angeles has been working well.
Physical Design:
The design looks good. It fits in nicely wherever I put it. Some speaker docks look kind of wierd lately.. like space aged designs. This one is slick, fun, and practical. The shape of it is kind of cool. I like how my iPhone docks in the middle of the two speakers. The blue clock face is a nice touch. Also, this thing runs on 6 AA batteries so it allows you take take it away from the wall outlet. I got 8 hours of play time off of a single charge of 2100mAh recharegable batteries.
Alarm Function:
The iPhone wake-up feature is cool because you can wake up to the last song that you were listening to on your iPhone. AND wake up with it FULLY CHARGED :) !!! The sound starts out low, and then it comes in and gets louder and louder until you wake up.. great idea. You can also set it to wake you up via FM radio or beeping/buzzer noise. I haven't used those options though. The Snooze button is cool for sleeping an extra 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes. ALso there's a nap function but I don't really take naps so I haven't used it. The thing I liek most is that you can control the alarm with the remote so you can shut it off or set it from the bed.
Remote:
It does EVERYTHING. No complaints. I can sit in bed and go through my whole iPhone with the remote. You can get to songs, playlists artists and you can go up and down levels in the folders... even switch to podcast. It's great to have a remote when you are tired :)
Other stuff:
I've used it with my friends Droid x to play music becuase the back has a AUX jack and it comes with a cable...great. I took it to the beach and used it with batteries and it was pretty cool. It won't charge your iPhone off of AA batteries though.
I like this speaker because for me its perfect. I can see how some people might not need all the stuff this thing packs. I dont' use the FM radio so much. All the other stuff is cool. I like that its compact and still has 4 speakers. Solid product. Also it comes with a 3 year warranty.

(More customer reviews)I was wary to purchase a stereo at this price point and an unfamilar brand at that. I have to say I'm generally impressed. For under sixty dollars you get a stereo that has an aux input, USB input AND a SD card input. You don't find that on any brand names at this price point. I like the idea of putting an 8GB sd card or flash drive and hitting random (which it does for all sources)and not having to mess with much else. The display, which is quite busy, is attractive and fully animated with a pulsing three color equalizer and rotating CD icon when playing discs. The only complaints I have is that its an all button deck. If you are used to a volume knob or jog dial, this unit will take some getting used to. Other than that, I find the scrolling text for the ID3 info annoying, but that's a personal preference. Tuner works fine. Sound is good all around. I've read conflicting statements about the max wattage being from 100 to 400 watts, but the sound is clear at peak volumes in my truck and I don't really listen to music that loud anyway. It did come with a full function remote and hardshell padded carrying case for the faceplate, which some name brands don't even provide anymore. Overall, the build quality is on par with other brands and I think its a great value worth considering.

From a usability perspective, I think it rivals the iPod interface and provides more feedback. While I really love the device, there are some things that I wish were a little better.
Pros
----
- Very nice screen and just big enough that if you were stuck on a plane, watching a movie still is an enjoyable experience.
- Simple and very intuitive interface. I love the fact that the iPod-like wheel actually rotates.
- Expansion via MicroSD cards is a great feature. I was able to swap the MicroSD card between my BlackBerry and the Fuze and be able to share images, and music.
- The FM Radio and ability to record from it is one of the coolest features. There's something about the randomness about radio that I still really like. And the ability to record a song that I don't already have can save you some money.
- I haven't used the external mic yet, but I think that's a neat feature to have when you have a thought and want to record it. I can think of several times where I've had a thought and wasn't able to write it down.
Cons
----
- The most frustrating experience I've had with the Fuze is the ability to get Video transferred. I've tried multiple formats and have been very unsuccessful in finding the right format to use. This is the main reason I've not given it a full 5 star review. Of course it's ridiculous to think that this would be a 'Movie' player. However, I have some great concerts that I would love being able to watch as well as listen to. I'm not interested in watching a movie.
- The on/off switch is great if you want to make sure that you don't accidentially turn on/off. However, I think it's overly difficult. Especially if you have large fingers. I would have preferred to press the Play button for a couple of seconds.
- The device 'hiccups' when scrolling through music that has album art. For some reason, when you get to the list of albums, the select button doesn't work until the album art appears. Often requiring you to double-click. Not a big deal, unless you're quickly trying to find a song to add to the play list.
- Finally, the device is either too new or not popular enough to warrant accessories. I really want to buy a protective cover, but they don't exist. I've read that some people are using Nano covers, but they don't fit well enough. This is really bad if you want to use the Fuze while exercising or cutting the lawn.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Fuze to anyone looking for a low-cost small media device. The cons shouldn't sway you away from buying it, but they are good to know. I'll update my review when I figure out the right combination of video formats for the device.

(More customer reviews)I've used just about every MP3 player there is and this one is right there with the best of them. It's small light and extremely easy to use. You don't need ANY software to upload songs to it. The device shows up like a drive on your PC. You have the option of using Windows Media Player 11 to upload songs, but I'd rather just drag and drop songs or use my Napster subscription to upload songs from Napster's huge library. I thought 2GB wouldn't be enough but it is so easy to upload songs when my mood changes that it's never been an issue for me. If you like to watch movies then you may want to go with the larger 4GB (NWZS616) or 8GB (NWZS618) versions of this model since a typical movie takes up ~700K memory after you compress it to QVGA. If you want a larger screen size then you can get the NWZA815. That model is basically the same player with a larger screen. It also has a heavier metal shell, but it does not have an FM tuner like the NWZS615, and I wanted the FM tuner. I typically use my player in shuffle mode in my car and if I don't want to hear a song, it is a breeze to reach down and click just to the right of the center button to skip to the next song. I honestly can't see how anyone would be disappointed with this player especially when you consider the great price.

(More customer reviews)I wanted a small shortwave radio to take on a trip. Whenever I travel, I feel bad because my Sangean ATS-909 is a little too big to drag along. Besides size, cost was an important factor in my purchase decision. There were not many reviews for the Kaito KA11, but it had most of the features I wanted and overall Kaito radios have pretty good reviews.
I ordered the radio online for $54 including shipping. As advertised, the radio is extremely small. Although small in size, this radio is packed with features. Overall, the buttons/controls are nicely laid out. Using the radio is very intuitive, but you may need to crack open the manual to use some of the features such as the sleep timer and the alarm clock. The manual is easy to read, but obviously translated to English so some of the sentences require some patience to understand.
Features: The radio has 1000 memory locations (100 per page). You have the option to scan through the stored memory locations or just scan up/down by frequency. Even though the speaker is small, the radio still sounds good. Overall, sensitivity is decent and selectivity between strong adjacent stations is good. The radio displays both time and frequency. The backlight is orange and the LCD display is very easy to read. So far battery life seems very good. The left-side of the radio has an external antenna jack. The battery compartment door is attached...a welcome change. The package comes with an AC adapter, manual, ear bud headphones and a long-wire external antenna. If you use rechargeable batteries, it is possible to charge the batteries inside the radio (with the AC adapter).
The whip antenna stores inside the radio. I am not sure I like this feature. Sometimes the antenna sticks while trying to push it back into the radio. Hopefully this will become less sticky over time. To set the clock, you need need to take the batteries out of the radio momentarily. The rotary volume control is very sensitive. Unfortunately, this makes it fairly easy to go from low volume to extremely loud without much movement. I also do not care for the location of the volume control. When the radio is lying flat on a table, you cannot adjust the volume. The carrying strap is permanently attached to the radio. This is a small annoyance. Unlike similar radios in its class, there is no pop-out stand. In my opinion, the frequency coverage should have included the 60 meter band.
For future designs of this radio, I would like to see a slight change in memory functionality. If you manually punch in a frequency that is already in memory, I would like the behavior changed so it displays the memory location of that frequency. Right now, you have no way to know if a frequency is already in memory. There should also be an easy way to add a frequency to the next available memory location. Currently, you need to specify a memory location when saving a frequency. This increases the possibility that you may overwrite a memory location with a different frequency.
In summary, I really love my Kaito KA11 radio and I am very happy with the purchase. It is definitely a great feature-packed radio, especially for its size and price. Most of the issues discussed above are minor annoyances and definitely not reasons to avoid this radio.

However, the next night, I turned the product on and it did not work at all on my TV. It had a signal for other radio stations, but I couldn't hear the TV at all. After figeting with it for 10 mins or so, I turned it off...along with the TV! The next day, I decided to turn it on...and after playing with it AGAIN did I get it to work. This is a terrible product...with very UNPREDICTABLE RESULTS! Its now been converted into a dust collecter and I have taken its wires and used them to connect my DVD player to the stereo system instead.

I was looking at the Sony HD1, the Creative 30gb Zen Xtra, the Iriver one, and this one. When I learned that the Creative player usually fell apart between one and two years, I decided against it. All of the Hard Drive based players that I looked at had internal batteries and therefore, after about a year, the battery life was shot and the player was useless. Therefore, I decided that I needed a replaceable battery player.
This small player 3" x 1.3" x 1" has all of the features I wanted, and is fairly easy to use. In my winXP computer, I could transfer mp3's into folders on the device and each folder acted as an album. There was no software to install. In the player, you can navigate to different folders, and then play those folders or indevidual songs in those folders.
Unlike the sony player, this player will play MP3's any way you have them on your PC, this means VBR mp3's too.
Also, unlike the Creative player, you can choose to have the player display information from the ID3 tags, or from the file name, so if your mp3s aren't set up well, its no problem.
The buttons are a littel confusing in the begining, but after 5min, I could use it perfectly. Also, it can be used left handed to right handed, the LCD rotates.
There are many play modes that you might want like Shuffle and Repeat. These are all easy to use. Overall, a very nice player. I would buy again. 1gb is enough space to switch files in and out, and since the battery wont die like a HD model, and the HD wont die either, I think it's the best choice.

(More customer reviews)This mp3 player is pretty darn good. It is light weight, easy to handle, and fairly inexpensive ($103 from Amazon). I bought the Sandisk over the Rio and RCA offerings because Sandisk, at least in my research, didn't seem to have the number of complaints about product quality and lack of customer support that the other two brands had. Also, it seems as if getting at least a 512MB flash memory player with an expansion slot is going to cost around $100.
This player represents the second Sandisk mp3 player in our household. We were impressed with the ease of use and tranfer speed of the 512MB flash memory player (with no expansion slot). The Sansa player is no different. It is literally drag and drop on to the Sansa. The number of features also put it over the top versus the RCA and Rio.
Overall, you can't beat the usefullness of this little gadget.
Pro's:
--Small size, light weight
--USB 2.0 file transfer speed (transfer 100mb worth of songs in seconds)
--Backlight display
--Plays mp3 and WMA (you can put both on the player at the same time and it doesn't even blink)
--Radio reception is fairly decent here in the hills, but still won't pick up all of the available stations in your area (none of the small mp3 players on the market get anything more than decent reception so don't use this as a selling point regardless of what you buy)
--Sound quality is decent even when playing songs at 64Kbps. If you use this compression level, get good earphones.
--Lots of features including a customizable 5-band eqaulizer with presets, WOW surround sound simulator, and other sound effects. Also, has stopwatch timer and a host of other settings you can play with.
--Battery life is excellent. Not as good as some, but still near the top of players that have good battery life.
--It comes with pouch, armband, earbuds, usb cable.
Minor Con's:
--When you purchase this player, buy headphones. The included earbuds are pointless as the sound quality is barely adequate and the included 3 sets of earbud covers can't keep the earbuds in my ears.
--The battery cover door comes off fairly easily. It looks like it's on there pretty tight but it's not. I think Sandisk did this because of the many complaints that the battery covers on their mp3 players were too difficult to remove causing many people to break the battery cover (like my fiancee did with her own player).
--Your music files need to be properly tagged. I thought my files were appropriately named but this player doesn't seem to recognize the songs. I think the ID3 tags on my music are not correct as the player will display the music title you typed in but it will also show the album, song title, and artist as unknown.
--The buttons on the front are hard to push if you are not expecting it. You just have to adapt to pushing the button deeper than you would think.
--The volume is controlled by a rotary wheel on the top right side of the player. It is very difficult to turn, especially when it is in the holder. I would have preferred two more buttons on the front or side than the wheel.
--Getting the player out of the holder is incredibly difficult. Wipe of the display of the player and the inside of the plastic holder before putting the player in the holder. The plastic film that protects the display during transport leaves either static or a light adhesive film on the display that makes it stick to the plastic holder after you put it in. It took me five minutes and many attempts to get it out before I realized what happened. Also be careful not to yank off the battery door when pulling the player out of the holder. There you have it. None of these gripes add up to more than a minor irritation which is why I gave it five stars (I would have given it 4.5 starts if I could have). However, having experienced other mp3 players, this one has the best combination of manufacturer product reliability and product support, versatility and expandability (up to 2GB SD card), features, and sound quality. My finacee has started using my player instead of her own player. Added on 4/25/05:
In my initial review, I forgot to mention two things. The Sansa ignores your file organization so don't bother trying to setup seperate folders for different genres of music. This is why I warned before to make sure that the music you have is named and tagged properly because it does allow you to play songs by artist, album, date added to player, and so on (let's hope SanDisk fixes this with some software upgrades). Also, there is about a 1-2 second lag when switching between songs. This can get a little annoying at times but you will get used to it. To be fair, one more upside is that I added a 1G SD card (SanDisk Ultra II) and after the initial 60 seconds to read the card and update the playlist, it doesn't miss a beat. I still really enjoy this mp3 player.
Added on 05/02/05:
My Sansa has started to drink batteries like I drink Coke. Not sure why; it could be using extra juice to read music on the SD card. I may have to purchase rechargeable batteries if this keeps up. I got 6 hours of playing time out of my last battery. My fiancee's Sandisk (a flash memory player, no expansion slot) goes about 15 hours on a AAA battery. Not sure why the huge discrepancy between our two Sandisk players but my best guess is that my batteries are being drained reading the memory card. It would be helpful if someone out there with some knowledge about this would write a review.
Added on 0725/05:
After having a chance to live with the player for a few more months, I have to downgrade the rating to 3 stars. The player has become harder to live with. It plays reliably and the sound is good but it is still drinking batteries like crazy and the rotary volume knob hasn't loosened up much. Sandisk hasn't offered any software upgrades to address the lack of being able to organize your files any way you want to and it is still very difficult to remove the player from its holder. Having owned several makes and models of players before, this is still better than those players because each of those players died 2-8 months after purchase. Shop around and get what sounds good to you.

XAct XTR1UK Sirius Satellite Receiver with Universal Kit Review

(More customer reviews)Sirius Satellite Radio is an excellent service, with extraordinarily rich and varied content, and therefore worthy of much more than XACT Communications offers in this "universal" kit. This review is ONLY related to XACT's equipment, and NOT to the Sirius service.
I've owned the receiver and kit for three months and I am now in the market for a replacement. Here's why:
1. The keypad interface is the least intuitive of any I've ever encountered. Although I pride myself on being something of a technophile, I must contstantly refer to the user's guide to figure how how to accomplish things with this keypad. You can't even enter a station by number directly! (You must select each of the 3 digits from a displayed list of digits using arrow keys and the enter button). Although the receiver boasts storing 18 "favorites," you can not get to any directly via the keypad; in all cases you must scroll through groupings (A through F) or lists first.
2. The user's guide has a few significant errors, such as how to store favorites channels.
3. The "universal" mount for vehicles comes with one small plastic disk with two-sided tape that adheres to the dashboard. The base unit easily detaches from this disk for use in the home. However, if you want to use it in a second VEHICLE, you need another of these little disks. XACT absolutely refuses to sell the disk alone, and insists that you spend another $50 (!) for another complete kit if you want to move the unit from car to car.
4. The display is too small, and often gets "stuck" with info from prior selections, requiring a reset.
5. Mobile reception is spotty, even in clear, unobstructed areas. I'm in the NYC suburban area, and lose the signal every ten minutes or so when on the road. A friend with an in-dash receiver for Sirius experiences no such problems.
6. In order to power this unit by batteries (for use like a walkman), you must purchase a huge, clunky wrap-around battery kit for $100 (!).
I recommend you definitely consider the Sirius service, but look for an alternative to any XACT hardware.
P.S. Since first writing this review, my XACT unit failed completely due to overheating, which I discovered is a very common problem with XACT equipment. Although the store where I purchased it provided a replacement, I fear the problem recurring after the warrantee has expired.

Belkin TuneCast II FM Transmitter for MP3 Players (White) Review

(More customer reviews)This thing has a range of about a foot, with really poor quality sound. It may be as good or better than other transmitters that are available, but it's still pretty lousy. Not really as good as standard FM, probably halfway between AM and FM, and interrupted by the occasional static. I modified it as described in the websites that describe how to do such things, but the sound is so crappy, that it's hardly worth the price. The modified range is about 50 feet.
I realize that it solves a problem of allowing an MP3 player to work in your car, and there aren't any good alternatives, but but this isn't going to make anyone really happy. It's just a barely passable solution. It does what it's supposed to, and if you modify it, it has much better range, but it's really not a great result.
UPDATE: I really wanted a product like this, so I bought the "whole house transmitter" right on Amazon and it works. Near FM quality sound, decent range (about 40 feet). It only broadcasts on one of 6 channels, but at least the quality is acceptable if you can find an open one, and it punches through weak stations so the channel doesn't really have to be completely clear. It's 3X the price, but that seems to be what it takes to get decent quality sound.

>The major flaw is that you cannot jump from one folder to next, you can only advance song by song (but I suppose that's ok if you have all your favorite songs in the SD card, or plug in an external MP3 player in the jack provided)
>Another little glitch is that there is no OFF button on the device. My car's power outlet is always on. So I put the MP3 device on PAUSE when I stop listening (otherwise the songs will continue being processed by the MP3 player)

(More customer reviews)I recently ordered the Jupiter Jack and was excited to use it because I am on the road all the time. It definitely does what it says it does just not very well. I live in DC and on just about every dial we have a radio station which is not good for the jupiter jack trying to steal the frequency. Both station it has you use are close to very powerful stations here so even though you are not on the same frequency they still come through. I am not here to say I am dissapointed in the product I just wish it was a little stronger. I am sure it would probably work in a more rural area where there are not as many stations but for DC it is not the best choice.

I wish the product description includes this most important fact.
